he should run from all the ghosts he helped create in Iraq. The waffle king has decided the country doesn't want his sage advice,go join TOMMY FRANKS,COLIN POWELL.                      DON RUMSFIELD,PEARLE,WOLFIWITZ,J PAUL BREMMER, GONZALOS<ROVE if this war on terror is as important as they have said then what man or women with concerns and knowledge could retire.Retire from what ,a war that bush described as crucial to civilization,SO LONG FUNNY MAN
Northern Virginia, let us run the GOP out of town in this Senate race and let the Dems pick up Tom Davis's seat.
I will miss him in the Senate.  I am an independent and have always had a great deal of respect for the Senator (along with Arlen Spector, Bob Casey, etc. all great senators who won't cowtow to Bush or any party line, but are willing to have views differing from the party line).  Joe Lieberman on the other hand, is no where near an independent.  He needs to switch to the republican party and declare himself a neocon as soon as possible, he is not fooling anyone. Those that don't tolerate dissent are not independents.
bye bye John, another repuke gone, and we are sure to see more as the bushtanic slowly slips under the waves. I can hardly wait for next years elections to get rid of a few more. Sadly though the reddest of the red states like Idaho and Utah will probably still send the bunch of deviants back to congress. The only bright spot is that the repugs will surely be in the minority for decades to come.
Thank you for your service Senator Warner.
You can't argue the fact that he was the quintessential Senator type or the fact that he was a fine public servant. Many of us wish he would have spoken out more strongly against the Presidents policies as failure became apparent put political maneuvering and the time it consumes are one of the drawbacks of our system.
Senator John Warner has resigned. Long live the Senator Mark Warner
WHY not pay someone to update your blogs, started 211 posted 330 its400oclock come on
Sing along with me; "Another one bites the dust/And another one's gone/And another one's gone!"  Warner's too old to have the stomache to face the kind of massacre the Repubs are going to get in '08.  He's wise to get the hell out of Dodge.  Hillary will lose the Dems the White House, but Congress is going their way BIG TIME!
With Obama or Edwards at the top of the ticket, we could take the Virginia Senate seat.

Hillary would bring out the religious conservatives who would swamp Mark Warner's campaign.

Choose wisely, Democrats !!

Obama-Edwards '08

THROW THE BUMS OUT !!
DON'T BRING THE BUMS BACK !!
'he should run from all the ghosts he helped create in Iraq.'   kenn"WARner has sh#t and is now leaving the pot"O

Didn't Clinton, Biden and Dodd also vote for that war ?
Didn't they support the Iraq War ?
Did they help create those ghosts, too ?

I think they're now 'experienced' on foreigh policy
I thinik Biden, Clinton and Dodd are now 'foreign policy experts' !!

Welcome to Washington DC !!

THROW THE BUMS OUT !!
DON'T BRING THE BUMS BACK !!

"The only bright spot is that the repugs will surely be in the minority for decades to come."

Actually, with the support of idiots like "beaverdambob" and "kenn (insert radom stream of dribble here) O" I have quite a fear that we on the Dem side may end up sending some "deviants" of our own back to Congress as well. Give me a mainstream, freethinking Republican over you two clowns any day.
Sen John Warner personally went to the office of the Sec. of Navy where he was assured that John Kerry was qualified for all honors received, making a lie of the Swift Boat smear in it's entirety.  Let's hear an apology from the Texas neo-cons!
John Warner's retirement is just one more piece of bad news for the Republicans in 2008.  Senator Warner can see the handwriting on the wall for his party.  George Bush and Dick Cheney have run this country into the ground.  The Republican party flushed its moral highground down the toilet in the mens room at the Minneapolis airport. The election in 2008 will be a massive repudiation of the Republican party dooming it to minority status...perhaps for the next 20 years. President Barack Obama will clean house come January, 2009!
I lived in Northern VA for 10 years during Sen. Warner's rise. I have enormous respect for him. If nothing else, his personal decision to not only disagree to support Oliver North but to get North defeated in his run was a tremendously courageous thing for Warner to do. He almost destroyed himself by going against the RNC in that instance.

He has proved true to his ideology and is much much less guilty of pandering to the extreme right than most of his colleagues. I don't agree with his ideology but I have always found him to be a person immenently worthy of respect. He is NOT just another republican "biting the dust", he is 80 years old, for pete's sake. We should lament that such a fine statesman is leaving.

I am an independent voter and am looking for a Democratic congress and presidency in 08 to cleanse the government of the rot this current administration has encouraged but I regret that the nation is losing this man in the Senate.

Gerry...you mean someone like Ted Stevens, your mainstream moderate conservative.  Anyone with an R behind their name is in trouble.  I do agree that we need to get rid of all the trash...Dems included.
Sorry to see John Warner leave, a man with real class in a club of people who seem to have given up that over the past 30 years.  He was my Senator (Virginia).  He was able to reach across party lines to get important things done, something that is rapidly disappearing in the Congress.  Too bad.  There are many folks who don't like Tom Davis, believe me when I say that Virginians could do worse! Does this mean that the Dems will be able to run the country into the ground without opposition?  Probably.  I'm 61 and expect to be told before I'm 70 that there is no more social security in the fund because we are using the $$ to promote some social program we can't afford, or purchasing carbon credits from the Albert Gore Global Warming Foundation.

Have a great day!
Was really nice of him to join the surrender monkeys on his way out too, class guy.
First, let me say as a democrat, that is it sad that this very distiguished gentleman is leaving the senate.
He is one of the last of the senators who plays fair and evokes what the senate is suppose be like before ideologes took over and made both houses useless and sad.
God speed Warner.
I do hope another Virginia Warner runs for his seat as this man has proven himself to be decent and honest and would be a good senator for Virginia.
Come on people, please quit saying who voted or did not vote for the war, remember the Reps and Senators were given a basket full of lies, presented as the truth by the commander and chief, both parties did what they thought best for the country, given what lies were told them. Anyway we are at war, NOW how in the hell do we get out???????
I can't help but quote the title of that book that "what's his name" wrote. Man was he dead on when he called it "crazies to my left, wimps to my right". Lol. Let me guess, a bunch of Rosie O'Donnell fans? Maybe she should take his place, lol.
lastword everyone serriarhead mentioned on the democratic side still have their jobs and are commited to working the disaster called Iraq out and lets get this straight one last time the senators voted to give the president the authority to go to war .He Bush choose the time and place remember shock and awe, remember Max "osama"cleland who rove villified for having a differnt idea, remember kenshecy and 400000 troops remember they will throw flowers, remember WMD remember,You know what best to look ahead because if I were a republican I would never look back.
Gerry or should I call you Jerry  do us a favor go be the repucker party mouthpiece you dream of being and let true democrats of which surprise Im not, talk for the dems go join lieberman and start your own party. How is TED"ITS MY BRIDGE TO NOWHERE "STEVENS doing.Stop claiming to be something your not a democrat.Didn't you want to add an insult to hilliary and obama and tell us how we should vote for men like Macain and fred thats what you are admit IN THE CLOSET REPUKER
Senator Warner served his country with honor and will be missed by those on both sides of the aisle who are more interested in working for the good of the country than in party ideology.
I'm a democrat, but Senator Warner is an honorable man.  I guess he couldn't even put up with the crap in the Senate.  All of them who supported the war should be voted out-democrats and republicans.
Now he can go back after Liz Taylor, full time.
Steve Turner Cedar Falls Iowa: "Now he can go back after Liz Taylor, full time."

They look at photos of each other from the '50s, and tell each other how hot each of them were.
