McCain: Inaction is not an option

Posted: Tuesday, September 30, 2008 1:46 PM by Carrie Dann

From NBC/NJ's Adam Aigner-Treworgy
DES MOINES, Iowa – After making the rounds of the morning cable news shows, McCain held an economic roundtable this morning and reiterated his call on the Bush administration for immediate action.

“Inaction is not an option,” McCain said. “In light of the House’s failure to act, this morning, I spoke to the president about two things that the administration has not done, but should do following the inaction of Congress.”

In addition to raising the deposit insurance cap from $100,000 to $250,000 – something both McCain and Obama have suggested – McCain called on the treasury to use its Exchange Stabilization Fund as “creatively as possible to provide backstop” for financial accounts. He also pointed to the authority granted to the government in the recent housing bill to purchase nearly $1 trillion in mortgages and mortgage backed securities as a short term solution until a bill can be negotiated that will bass through congress.

“The Administration can take these actions with the stroke of a pen to help alleviate the crisis gripping our economy,” McCain said. “I urge them to do so.”

Renewing a call for bipartisanship that has spanned several days, McCain once again told several-hundred local employees gathered at EFCO Forms for the roundtable that this was not the time to place blame.

Video: Senator John McCain joins 'Morning Joe' to talk about the bailout vote and says he'll 'let others be the judge' on his leadership.

“This may be and is the greatest financial crisis of our lives,” McCain said. “And we have to act, and we have to act together in a bipartisan fashion. I'm committed to that. And I'm committed to doing whatever is necessary in a bipartisan fashion, and there'll be plenty of time to point the finger of blame."

The RNC released a television ad today tying Obama to the current financial crisis, even as McCain insisted that this is a time for restoring confidence, not name-calling.

Why is Obama talking about raising the deposit  insurance? What people do now is not have more then a $100K in any one account that is insured by the FDIC. That way, if the bank sinks, you get your money back. No one is stupid enough to put more then a $100K in any one account today. And if any one is that stupid, they probably don't have a $100K to put into an account in the first place.

Obambi, again, is just so confused on what is going on in the world.
John McCain is a certifiable NUT........
The Republicans are trying to get htis deal done. They're not out their cutting the Democrats down. The Republicans are indicating a sense of urgency and projecting a better a nd brighter future. The Democtrats. Oh, the Democrats. Fighting among themselves, playing political games, partisan speeches, trying to make this entire mess a referendum on Bush, doom and gloom on the future. Pathetic. Just pathetic.
Typical backhanding by the rethugs, cry out for non partisan solutions while stabbing your opponent in the back.
Go Away, McIIIrd!
I think it's time for McCain to consider hormone replacement therapy for all of the mood swings and hot flashes he has been experiencing as of late.
“Inaction is not an option,”

Unless your are McCain or repub...
McCain is taking credit for nothing... Obama is the one displaying leadership.  Maybe Chuck and Andrea want Obama to go back and round up all the "black" votes as they so graciously put it this morning. Ya know, it is his job to get all the minorities on board.
"McCain insisted that this is a time for restoring confidence."

Confidence, Man, Confidence

Come on. You guys know Obama was the first to come up with the 250,000 deposit insurance cap and that McCain simply stole the idea. It's his way you know. Stealing ideas.
"I'm committed to doing whatever is necessary in a bipartisan fashion"  Another day, another McCain campaign lie.  "there'll be plenty of time to point the finger of blame."  Oh, you're way out ahead of the pack on that one, Johnny.
McCain is a hypocrite who is desperately trying to gain recognition and credit any way he can.  Let's hope the voting public can see through these pathetic shenanigans.
It just makes my head spin to see how the Repubics have tried to make this mess they have created look like it's the democrats fault. I don't think the public will buy it, at least niot the thinking public.
The Republicans are trying to get htis deal done. They're not out their cutting the Democrats down...
Democrats Make You Cry (Sent Tuesday, September 30, 2008 2:08 PM)

That's what they assigned you to do, right? So you can look like the ass? They say ignorance is bliss, and in your case, I wonder how much joy you've brought to your life by living like a hypocrite...
Hey, Democrats Make You Cry:

The Repubs are the ones who got their partisan panties in a twist and voted down the bill yesterday. They're the ones with no leader and no coherent plan. The Dems are doing just fine, thank you. And in January, they'll start digging us out of this big mess the Republicans made.
And the McCain rollercoaster continues!  Up and down we go!  Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee!!

Someone let me off.  I think I'm sick.
"Why is Obama talking about raising the deposit  insurance?"  Partly because many small businesses have legitimate reasons to put that much money in one account, but being that exposed with a $100,000 limit puts them at risk in the eyes of their lenders.
Mr Insure this:
it's not 100 grand in one account... it's 100 grand total in the bank... right???
isn't this what Obama said yesturday? McCain just keeps using Obama's ideas. McCain needs to come up with a solution to this problem since he says he is a leader. I forgot McCain does not understand the economy so he can't come up with an alternative plan. Step aside and allow the people who understand the economy do their jobs and get us out of this mess that the republican party led by deregulator McCain created.
The republicans got us into this mess, do people really think they can get us out. McCain has publically blamed Obama and the Democrates for the faliure of the bill. Where were all the republicans that McCain supposedly influenced to come on board. and support the bill?

McCain is a legend in his own mind. It is time for a change. Go Obama/Biden 08!!
If McCain broke a finger nail he would blame Obama somehow, even if Obama was miles away. Small man McCain is not good for the World.
I cannot wait for this election to be over with, so that I don't have to read about John McCain on a daily basis anymore(because Obama will be our next President-thank God!).  It is becoming very tedious and frustrating listening to his flat out, bold faced lies.  I've never been fond of any politician, but he takes the cake.  Day in and day out, he showcases his ignorance, selfishness, and ineptness.  I do not believe a single word that comes from his or his campaign's mouth!!!!  He has turned this thing into a three-ringed Circus on steroids.  He's a joke!
McCain is quick to steal credit...No matter how "By Hook or Cr00k"
If 'W' can release $1 trillion from the Exchange Stabilization Fund with the stroke of the pen, why do we need ANOTHER trillion?  Oh, he doesn't want to take responsibility.
To insure this:   Can you read?  MCCAIN called for the FDIC to raise the deposit insurance cap.
Notice how Mr. Erratic Static sure likes to be seen on TV lately. Free advertising for a failed campaign.
Both candidates are supportive of the bailout - they both think the depost insurance cap should be raised - and both think this is a serious crisis and agree both parties should work togetjer to solve this problem - fine, then why in his next breath will McCain put Obama down with his name calling and then try to take full credit if a compromise is made or blame Obama if it again fails?  He's arrogant, rude and insulting one minute and tries to sound caring, kind and bipartisan the next.  He is an oppoutunist looking for the right moment to say or do whatever he thinks will help him the most.
The republicans are also blaming the democrats don't fool yourself.Obama and McCain are each making phone calls to their parties to get them behind this. The REPUBLICANS are NOT trying to get this done-The candidates are actually coming together to get this done, please get up to speed.
McLies must have finally figured out the American people don't like his attack dog demeanor.  DON'T BELIEVE THE 'MAVERICK' SNAKE OR THE PITBULL IN LIPSTICK!!!

Obama/Biden '08
