Call her 'Jane Six Pack'

From NBC/NJ's Matthew E. Berger
SEDONA, Ariz. -- In between her debate-prep sessions here, Palin called into the conservative Hugh Hewitt radio program Tuesday, decrying the lack of journalism ethics and repeatedly referring to herself as “Joe Six Pack.”

Oct. 1: Sarah Palin, right,  in Sedona, Ariz. with Randy Scheunemann, senior policy adviser for the McCain-Palin campaign, prepares for her Thursday night debate with Democratic counterpart Joseph Biden.

The interview comes amid new concerns that Palin is losing support among conservatives, as several prominent commentators have suggested she is unqualified for the vice presidency. The conversation touched on many of the key issues that made Palin popular in conservative circles when she was first named -- including her faith, support for Israel, and her decision to have a baby born with Down syndrome.

Palin linked herself to the financial situation many Americans now face, telling Hewitt: "I know what Americans are going through. Todd and I, heck, we’re going through that right now even as we speak, which may put me again kind of on the outs of those Washington elite who don’t like the idea of just an everyday, working-class American running for such an office." The governor of Alaska received a salary of $112,895 in 2007, according to stateline.org. The McCain campaign has not released the Palins' financial records.

“We’ve gone through periods of our life here with paying out of pocket for health coverage until Todd and I both landed a couple of good union jobs,” she added. “Early on in our marriage, we didn’t have health insurance, and we had to either make the choice of paying out of pocket for catastrophic coverage or just crossing our fingers, hoping that nobody would get hurt, nobody would get sick. So I know what Americans are going through there.”

She said her family probably took a $20,000 hit in the stock market last week, mostly through Todd’s 401K plan.

Palin’s chat with Hewitt was on much friendlier terrain than the Republican vice presidential nominee has appeared on in recent weeks, with evening news anchors Charles Gibson and Katie Couric. Hewitt asked about the “virulent opposition to you on the left” because of her position on abortion, and asked whether “the mainstream media and the left understands your religious faith?”

Palin was asked in the interview about her reaction to “extreme hostility” from the media. “I think they’re just not used to someone coming in from the outside saying you know what -- it’s time that normal Joe Six Pack American is finally represented in the position of vice presidency,” she said. “And I think that that’s kind of taken some people off guard, and they’re out of sorts, and they’re ticked off about it, but it’s motivation for John McCain and I to work that much harder to make sure that our ticket is victorious.”

Also in the interview, she told the conservative radio host that she does not belong to any church -- in an apparent attempt to separate herself from several of the churches she has been known to attend, one where she received a blessing against witchcraft and another under fire for promoting an event to convert gays and lesbians.

“I think that there’s a lot of mocking of my personal faith, and my personal faith is very, very simple,” she told Hewitt, according to a transcript released by the campaign. “I don’t belong to any church. I do have a strong belief in God, and I believe that I’m a heck of a lot better off putting my life in God’s hands, and saying hey, you know, guide me.”

The senior pastor of Wasilla Bible Church told Newsweek magazine earlier this month that Palin and her family regularly attend church there and have for six years. Another pastor said her youngest child, Trig, was “dedicated” at the church before she was nominated for vice president. But several Internet videos have shown Palin speaking and receiving prayers at Wasilla Assembly of God, where she said the war in Iraq was a "task that is from God" and received a prayer from a guest preacher asking she be protected from witchcraft.

Palin also reminded Hewitt of her own background as a reporter, but said she learned things differently. “Well, I have a degree in journalism also, so it surprises me that so much has changed since I received my education in journalistic ethics all those years ago,” she said. “But I’m not going to pick a fight with those who buy ink by the barrelful. I’m going to take those shots and those pop quizzes and just say that’s okay, those are good testing grounds.”

Palin has been camped out all day at McCain's Sedona ranch, where campaign officials said she is preparing "outdoors near a creek." Campaign aides said it was a "relaxed environment," joined by her husband and four younger children.

“We’ve gone through periods of our life here with paying out of pocket for health coverage until Todd and I both landed a couple of good union jobs”

Yep, talking up the benefits of union membership.   A sure winner when trying to win over conservatives!
Lets stop with the gender nonsense Palin should not receive special treatment because of her gender. Look at facts. If a vp candidate said that he/she had foregin policy experiance because she lives in close promimity to russia, most people will say that the individual is unqualified. Be realistic. Second, her sob story of being the average joe is funny considering that the republican party is not for the average american. Republicans want to give $300 billion dollars to the rich and coporations who created this economic mess. Taxing my healthcare is not helping the average american. It is helping big coporations. so spare me.
Yes, but unlike most Americans who must live on a fixed income, when Sarah and Todd need extra cash they can always bill the State of Alaska for living in their own home.
With times as desperate as they are right now, I sure don't want an everyday working class American leading the nation.  I want someone with a solid education who actually knows what they're talking about.
I don't want Joe Six Pack, Josephine Six Pack, or anyone who lies when they say they had a union job when they didn't.  I don't want somebody who has dinner with Joe Lieberman and folks at one of the most expensive, exclusive restaurants in Washington's finest hotel while Congress implodes.  I dont want somebody who hides behind handlers' coattails and then complains when their ignorance is exposed with a simple question.  I don't want someone who has whored themselves to a shell of their former respectable self for pure political gain.  OBAMA BIDEN 08
Populist Palin...

Yeah, you are working class...
And I am Santa Claus.
lol...Palin is a freaking comedian. She knows absolutely nothing ethics and she knows absolutely nothing about journalism. This woman can't even name a single newspaper or magazine she reads! Seriously...in 45 seconds she couldn't even name one. Even if she couldn't name a national newspaper like NY Times, WaPo, she could've at least named the Anchorage Daily News! This woman is dangerous to our country...we don't need another moron driving us off the cliff.
Palin might be able to "relate" to the average American with her background. However, running for VP today with our country facing record financial crisis, war, loss of jobs, etc.
We need a President and VP who can SPEAK intelligently, one who can face foreign heads of state with knowledge and understanding. One who can answer a question DIRECTLY!
I am not impressed with her being touchable like the average American, if she is going to represent us she needs to KNOW HOW and she doesn't!
Sarah, do all of us a favor and STEP DOWN. We won't fault YOU for it, just the idiots who chose you to try and win over the Hillary voters.
No, I absolutely don't want "Joe six pack" representing me and my country! It's time we got back to having the best and brightest leading our government. We deserve nothing less!
She has health insurance.  Most americans don't.  She isn't worried about paying the bills.  Most americans are.  Most americans know when they are in over their head.  She doesn't have a clue.
GOV. PALIN, CAN YOU NAME ANOTHER HISTORIC SUPREME COURT CASE?

PALIN: "__________________________________________".

NOVEMBER 4TH CAN'T GET HERE SOON ENOUGH...
If Palin's husband is part Upik (sp?) Eskimo, as she claimed when first nominated, then because Todd Palin is an Alaska Native Indian, Palin's kids are also part Eskimo and will all receive free medical health care for the rest of their lives.  Where's the struggle in that, Palin knows she didn't have to worry about her kids getting sick or her husband either, because the government provides free health care for all Alaska Natives and American Indians from birth through death.
you gotta be kidding. This person is now trying to put herself in Mayberry with Opie and Andy. I guess that Barney is McCain, and aunt Bee is Cindy McCain.

the more I think about it, maybe He-Haw would be a better example.

Huh - did that make sense to all of you?
Palin, please. We have already known how strong your "association" with your churches are. The videos are all over the Net now. Why keep dening what is obvious like the "bridge to no where" or "earmark." I don't care what church you were in, but I cann't trust some one who does't believe in Evolution or Global Warming. According to what I have heard, Palin also said that human and dinorsaur co-existed 6,000 years ago. Pathetic
Katie Couric asked Palin which newspapers and magazines she reads to keep up with events.  Palin's reply was "All of them".

Couric ask her again SPECIFICALLY name some.  Palin says "All of them".

She couldn't even name NYT, WSJ, Time, Newsweek, or even her own state's ADN.

And that's her problem.  Palin has never had any National or international interest.
You know what, she comes off better when she sticks to being herself...stop trying to convince us that bordering the Bering Sea with part of Russia qualifies you as an international expert...sheesh
Hostilty by the press??  Who the heck is she kidding?
She mostly has gotten a pass.

Whatever has been done, Palin has done it to herself.
Her answers to very simple questions were ... well extremely lacking.

She easily could have admitted that being governor of Alaska does not equate to meaningful foreign relations experience.  Then she could have moved on.

I am sure she made a decent mayor and may be an effective governor for a very low population state. But qualified to be President - no way!

I somehow feel a little sorry for her.  But my love of this country is too strong.

There is no way that I could ever vote for John McCain and put Sarah Palin one 72 year old heart beat away from the Presidency of this great nation.  We deserve better.

So in other words... without unions (McCain does not support unions... Obama does) Palin wouldn't have been able to make it?

"...with paying out of pocket for health coverage until Todd and I both landed a couple of good union jobs"
YO Sarah , Yo Sarah , Yo Sarah ,(rocky)
First Dude , First Dude , First Dude (Adrianne)
yo Sarah we did it .
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Comforting to think this woman is a heartbeat away!!!! And we are worried about WALLSTREET ?????? Please send this lady back to Alaska, we don't need cute and ignorant
Joe Six Pack huh?  My next dorr neighbor is the epitomy of that so called phrasing, and I still would not trust him with this country. Go back to Alaska, governor.
Now, I'm really getting conflicted messages.
================================================
The Rick Davis issue is a NON issue.

It would have been important BUT, Sen. McCain DID introduce legislation to correct the Fannie/Freddie issue. The bill was shot down and not even allowed a vote by the Democrats. So, I ask how is the Rick Davis thing an issue (other than the media looking to pin something on McCain)?
If the media were fair, it would point out that even WITH the Rick Davis connection... McCain still pushed to correct this pending disaster in 2005!!
That might hurt their chosen candidate though... so they won't be fair.
=========================================================
Sorry Kevin, in Detroit, Michigan
You’re wrong.  There's sooooo much more to the issue. Rick Davis was still getting paid as og Aug, 2008; last night.
Also, McCain with his 83 lobbyist and Palin’s oil  lobbyist,  trooper—gate, the first Dude interjecting himself in Alaska’s government, (big problem for a high school as co-president,) her immaturity and lack of domestic and foreign policy, plus McCain’s advisors to Georgia, the Wall Street meltdown, 700 million dollars a month to China, 135,733 as of September, 30th 2008, the Iraqi lost lives and hardships due to war. Not to mention over 4 thousand American lives lost, the blood of our sons, daughters, sisters, husbands, wives, cousins, friends, and any other American related to this senseless war will be more of the same.

Enough
No way
No how
No McCain/ Palin cutie pie
Nobody, but Obama/Biden

well...ya' BEEN to Sedona?
A more "serene" place you'll never find... & there's a great Mexican restaurant there (Oaxaca)...Oak Creek canyon, cool cabins to rent, and lotsa' touristas...
Indian legend (and a ton of "new agers") believe it's a place of magnetic convergance...so chances are, Sarah Palin is getting her "vortex infused". Woooooooooooh...I shouldn't make fun...Those Indians
(pardon me, Native Americans..thank you),knew (and STILL know), how to tap into that sh*t...After Florida, & the Supreme Court...anything can happen.
"Todd and I both landed a couple of good union jobs"

And you're still Republicans? Have you asked the average Kool Aid drinking Republican how they feel about unions lately? Have you examined the history of unions and the GOP?

"it’s time that normal Joe Six Pack American is finally represented in the position of vice presidency"

By demonstrating the chops of someone who's already finished off that preverbial six pack? Why is it a good idea for an average Joe to hold a position that demands critical thought? Would you like Joe Six-Pack as your brain surgeon, too?
Personally, I really don't want "Joe six pack" being my VP.  I would like my VP to be more educated than me.
That really sounds better.
Still - no brains, no matter what environment she in.
She justdo NOT have.
media just can not pronounce this loudly, that is why we are still watching this circus.
Oh, for the love of....
Please spare us the nonsense. I can think of another candidate who had their personal faith mocked..
This quote cracked me up...

“We’ve gone through periods of our life here with paying out of pocket for health coverage until Todd and I both landed a couple of good union jobs,”

GOOD UNION JOBS??? The same jobs that Republicans have done everything in their power to destroy and ship to China for a few more pennies in a stock price?

Palin is even more out of touch than old man McCain.

I just sent Obama another $60... I encourage you to do the same:

http://my.barackobama.com/page/outreach/view/main/Americans4ChangeJC
I would really hope that Americans have had their fill of being "led" by someone you would like to have a beer with. What a disaster the last eight years!

It is really scary that people want "someone like me" to lead (what has been) the "leader of the free world."
The more this woman talks the scarder I become.  Please somebody put us out of her misery!!!  I think it is because she hasn't got a brain that she is able to withstand being portrayed as an idiot!!!  She is too dense to get it.  She needs to go to the Wizard of Oz and we need to elect Obama/Biden and secure the country against this stupidity.
Asking legitimate questions is not a "pop quiz".  I'm grateful the media is finally doing it's job.  If in the process we learn that Palin is a fraud and is not qualified then the media has not just done its job, it has also done the vetting that McCain should have done before he selected her.
Anyone who talks about “Joe six pack”, studies “outdoors near a creek" in a "relaxed environment" and is “joined by her husband and four younger children” can’t be serious about a debate.  Maybe that’s why she went to so many schools without graduating.
OMG!  This is the same woman who accused Hillary of whinning.  Just goes to show that you should never judge another woman 'till you've walked a mile in her pants-suit.

Hey PUMAs! How you like her now?

Obama/Biden '08!
I'm amazed that people seem to think that just because someone has had similar life experiences to you, they automatically agree with you on political issues.  John McCain was in the military yet he didn't support the most recent GI bill to give our troops more benefits when they come home.  Sarah Palin experienced not having heath care for her family yet she  doesn't want to help struggling families get affordable coverage for themselves and their families.  This is what most people would define as HYPOCRITICAL, and why in the hell would we want hypocrites in the highest office in the land?  Oh, wait, we already have one, and look how that worked out.  Barack Obama watched his single mom struggle to take care of he and his sister and he wants to help struggling families with everything from tax relief to affordable health care to affordable college.  He and Michelle just paid off their student loans a few years ago and they know how difficult it is.  Don't we want our next President to not only have shared our life experiences but to also want to turn around and try to help all of those of us citizens of this country who are going through those same struggles?  I think that is called "learning compassion through experience", much preferable in my book to "hypocrite".  But hey, that's just me!
I’m going to take those shots and those pop quizzes and just say that’s okay, those are good testing grounds.” What does that mean...she thinks she is on a game show! She is absolutely clueless
Well, heck,  Mark- I mean, I'm just a regular guy myself if you don't count that I don't submit expense reports to my employer for staying in my own house.  Well, heck, Mark- I can even see God from my own house, but I think I ought to be a 'regular Six-Pack Guy, and throw him under the bus when someone asks me if I go to any church, because, heck, it might make people think I'm NOT a regular six pack guy or whatever it is they are trying to play GOTCHA with me about. Well, heck, Mark- I even read newspapers and magazines, and that makes me a regular Joe, even if I can't name one of them.  Or something.  Heck- I even give my kids regular Joe Six Pack names like.... oh, never mind- they are all out to get me!
Is there really anything left to say? This woefully unprepared, unqualified woman should do the polite thing... find an excuse and go home.

BTW, I think I read in some article about the First Dude that she makes $125K (plus all those per diems days, etc) and he made something like $90K having taken a pay cut from much more when she took the Oil and Gas Commision job (to avoid conflict of interest)... Oh, and the dude also makes about $22K in the hobby sport he has (snow mobiles?)

They have a house that is the biggest around Wasilla, two boats, a plane and other sundrie hunting equipment, like snowmobiles, etc.

Hardly Joe Six Pack, unless the first dude's been working out. I'm just saying....
We jump from lipstick to hockey mom and now Joe or Jane six pack. When we gonna start having serious discussion not distraction.By the way did she file taxes? When are we gonna see if she pay taxes.
What's got me "out of sorts" and "ticked off" are her pathetic assertions of "gotcha media" and "pop quizzes." You know how to get back at these evil media elite? Answering their questions without sounding like a complete idiot would be a nice start.

And okay, I get it - you told Congress thanks but no thanks to that stupid bridge. Even if that were true, it's remarkably unimpressive.
Palin.. i'm so sorry.. we already think you're an airhead.. no amount of shoveling on with right wing media interviews can bury those images from the Couric interview and the snl VERBATIM spoof, out of our minds. Stay by that creek and don't bother coming out. Please do women everywhere a favor and go home.  I was embarrassed as a woman, a journalism major and an American.. to hear you spew off at the mouth like that and constantly 'whining' about how sexist everyone is treating you.  I was a hilary supporter and now i'm going for obama because you are no substitute.. no way no how!!!! Women everywhere are trying twice as hard, fighting twice as hard and making sure to always be on top of their game... and then you come along... thanks but no thanks!
What you need to call her is Ms. Vice-President.
First of all aren't we going through an administration led by a "Joe six-pack"
Do we really have to go through this again?
I don't want someone just like me or my neighbor,
I WANT THE BEST OF THE BEST!
Great job on that six year degree in journalism, a lot of good that has done you.
Boy Palin sure wants to be treated like a lady - you just can't call her on it.

Let's just take her at face value??? Like..“I don’t belong to any church..." yet "...The senior pastor of Wasilla Bible Church told Newsweek magazine earlier this month that Palin and her family regularly attend church there and have for six years."

Um okay Sarah. Whatever you say. Gotta get back with the other sheep now. BAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!

(SHHHH. It sounds like she is 6 cans short of a six pack.)

Get a load of George Will and Newt Gingrich on Palin and McCain''s "Avoidable" gamble!!!:
