LATROBE, Pa. -- Palin appealed to “Casey Democrats” in Pennsylvania today, but the strongest appeal came from a local legend, former NFL football coach Mike Ditka.

“When you look at the next eight years in this country, there's gonna be some tough times, gang,” Ditka said at an airport hangar rally. “We talk about change. Change from what, to what, and how? How you gonna do anything? Don't talk about what you're gonna do, prove you can do something!”

Ditka -- who grew up in nearby Aliquippa and played for Pitt -- cited the late John F. Kennedy, saying the country had swayed from the ideals of not asking what the country can do for you, but what you can do for the country.

“This is the land of opportunity; it's not a land of handouts,” the coach said. “If you're willing to work, you can find a job.”

Palin gave an abbreviated version of her stump speech, and continued to suggest Democratic victories in the White House and Congress would lead to a “far left” agenda that would include cuts to defense spending. She made her appeal to more moderate Democrats, known as “Casey Democrats,” after the late Pennsylvanian governor Robert P. Casey, whose son, Sen. Bob Casey, Jr., is backing Obama.

“And with your help, and with the help of the good Casey Democrats here in Pennsylvania too, that’s the spirit that John McCain and I will be able to bring to Washington,” Palin said.

She also reiterated a line she has commonly used in Pennsylvania, reminding voters that Obama suggested they “cling to religion and guns” during the primaries.

“Don’t quite know what to make of a candidate like that,” she said. “We tend to prefer candidate that don’t talk about us one way in Latrobe and then another way in San Francisco.”

Palin was joined on stage by three of her children, including two in costume for Halloween. Daughter Piper was dressed as an ice princess and six-month-old Trig was in an elephant costume.

Obama's average national lead has narrowed from eight points on Saturday to 6.1 points today. His average margin in the (more-responsive) tracking polls has fallen further, from 7.8 points to 5.5 points over the same five-day span.
3 News organizations have been kicked off the Obama Campaign plane today. More to come on this breaking story later today.
Liberals don't understand athletics in general or football in particular. Things that require real men to participate.
Polls are always have undervalued representation for Republicans. That's because most of them are at work when the pollsters call.
So now in Pennsylvania there's Good Casey Dem's & Bad Casey Dem's. It's Halloween, whatcha expect from Uncle Fester & caribue Barbie.
“This is the land of opportunity; it's not a land of handouts,” the coach said. “If you're willing to work, you can find a job.”

sorry coach, tell that to the factory workers who's jobs were shipped overseas and have been looking for work for a year unsuccessfully.  tell that to those of us in the midwest who can't find work because there is no job growth going on.

The policies of this administration have killed the opportunity that used to exist in this country.

and McCain and Palin have said job creation, but never outlined any agenda that will spark creation of jobs in any industry.  once again, platitudes with no plan from the GOP.

no idea, no plan, no clue.  McCain/Palin

What's your point?

Have you heard the clip where the lady at an Obama rally says she will not have to worry about buying gas for her car or paying her mortgage once Barack is elected. It's on YouTube. Check it out!
John Kennedy was more of a Republican back then then John McCain is today. Obama though is so far to the political left that I'm surprised he hasn't recited the line "Ask not what you can do for your country, but what your country can do you for you?"
Exactly coach.  What exactly have "those who have" done for their country?  What has Alaska, which gets over 50% more money back from the lower 48 than they send to the lower 48, done for its country?

What has the upper class, and the power done for their country?  They have shipped jobs overseas.  They have stopped trying to innovate for the betterment of the country and instead just look to increase their own wealth.

It's easy to pick on those who do not have.  It's easy to pick on those who do not have a choice.  The real vitriol should be saved for those who do have a choice as to where their resources go, and choose to not do for their local, regional, state, and national communities.  Seeing as Mike Ditka is still living off one game that happened almost 23 years ago, he obviously hasn't done anything for anyone but himself.
Liberals are such greedy sobs. Gimme, gimme, gimme is their moto.

You mean like one who doesn't divide the country into "real-America" and "fake-America", or call certain parts of a state "communist county"?  Again, every time you open your mouth, Silly Sarah, your hypocrisy is appalingly evident.

Obama/Biden '08!

Sandy Moore,

Not that I agree with your premise, but:

Do the math, 2.3 points drop in 5 days, that's .46 a day.  With three days to go, and a lead of 5.5, it will be Obama by 4.

<<"We tend to prefer candidate that don’t talk about us one way in Latrobe and then another way in San Francisco.">>

Right.  Like talking about "real" America and "fake" America...

...which is something you did, Sarah.

Oh, how you slay me, Caribou Barbie...
Do any of you have anything to say about the article?  All I see is a bunch of soon-to-be sore losers.  Get a life people.  Candidates who are running for office have nothing to do with "liberals and athletics", imaginary breaking stories, and who is or isn't at work.

I voted for a republican in the Primary.  Obama is the only viable choice in the general.

grow up.
Proof positive that Ditka suffered brain damage from his football career by totally misrepresenting John F. Kennedy's saying.  Obviously the rich and greedy have no intention of being patriotic and doing what they can for our country.  Rich creeps like Ditka have only been interested in what our country can do for him while giving him a big tax break he doesn't need or deserve.

I can't wait for Obama to kill "Tyrant" Bush's tax cuts and install his own as his first act in office.  I want to see the Ditka's and Ancient Barbie's pay more taxes so that real Americans don't have to and can keep more money in their pockets so they can become better consumers.  Hurray for Robin Hood government of redistributing the wealth downwards where it belongs.

Go Obama/Biden 08/12!

more divisive rhetoric from the no ideas camp.  anyone who believes in freedom of the individual above all else (what liberalism stands for) aren't "real men".

status quo is great for those who make their living off the sweat, blood, and tears of the real working class.  must be rough making millions a year playing a game, when us "un-real men" are the ones who pay your salaries by attending the games you play.

maybe we should just boycott all sporting events because we aren't "real men".  see how long your type is successful after that...

and the only reason you support the republicans is because of their tax cuts which have bankrupted this country financially and morally...  Guess Exxon deserves their 0.25% tax rate on 15 billion in profits while i get taxed at 40% making under $40,000.

greed, the root of all evil.

Dika is stupid too.  All any of them can do is "TALK".  They are not in office yet, dummy!

If McCain is able to get the Ditka endorsement then I think we should all be conscious of making an effort to get out to the polls on Tuesday.

Seriously folks, go vote on Tuesday.

Say it ain't so Coach Ditka!

Well I still have the Super Bowl Shuffle and Walter Payton.

Hurricane Ditka is cut-off. Get him off the plane!

OBAMA '08
Wow, Mike Ditka telling people that "if they're willing to work, you can find a job".  I'd like him to go into Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and say that to all those employees who've lost their jobs to plant closings.  Say that to their faces.  Those people don't need a $7.50/hour job at McDonald's or Target to be able to provide for their families.  They need good paying jobs with benefits, and 401K programs so they can "try" and save for a possible retirement some day.  These Republicans kill me with their hatred filled derrogatory comments implying that Democrats don't work.  I'm a registered Democrat, a white 44 year old women who lives in the suburbs of Central PA and I go to work everyday along with alot of other Democrats.  Stop spilling your hatred everywhere.  It's not healthy for this nation and it's certainly not healthy for your soul.
So one bonehead - Palin - was joined by another bonehead - Ditka - on stage.  And we're supposed to be swayed by what these two clowns are saying???
Just more of their Nastiness. Right-Wingers seem to be born with an extra gene that increases this behavior. Here's a closer look at what I'm referring to:

It's called McChapter 7 - Morally Bankrupt

Please send it to anyone who needs reminding what these poeple are all about.
Obama will kick even the moderates of his party (Are there any left anymore?) off the "plane" if he's elected. Get ready for some real power plays by the liberals with nut jobs like Pelosi and Reid sending bill after bill up to Obama for his signature. The SC will be very busy reversing all the illegal laws (Fairness Doctrine, gun control, on and on) that Obama and his little helpers in Congress try to sign into law.
Liz, exactly right.  I'm getting laid off from my job.  Not because I'm not skilled or appreciated, but simply because there isn't enough work and my position is being phased out.  Has nothing to do with my desire to work!

I think that Mike Ditka once referred to Chicago fans booing him as 'lunch bucket losers'

shows you what he thinks of the middle class and the working class / blue collar workers

NO THANKS

I perfer Mike Singletary, Gale Sayers and
Dick Butkus ('I never intentionally hurt anybody, unless it was for something important, like a game')

Let's hope Simple Sarah IS the 2012 Republican nominee
Obama and the Democrats will roll her like a bowling ball.
Republicans are going to become IRREVELANT !!
Anyone who has paid attention at all would realize that Obama would not be a radical, left-wing president.  This fear-mongering is baseless.  In a statement made by John McCain, "You have nothing to fear from an Obama presidency."
“This is the land of opportunity; it's not a land of handouts,” the coach said. “If you're willing to work, you can find a job.”

It helps to have more then a 7th grade level of education Liz.
Ironic, this weekend, the clocks go back an hour. How fitting for what's going on today for the Obama campaign. Tuesday is looking better the longer it takes.
Really, Ditka?  Why don't you tell that to my developmentally disabled son who has tried til he is exhausted to find a job?  His efforts are heartbreaking?

How nice for you that you don't have the struggle. Your arrogance is appalling.
didka,,,just another washed up coach, more of what we have seen from the bombers campaign,Elway's another one.Have to remember these guys are in that 1% who will be effected by the tax changes.Football players have to be taken lightly, all those hits to the head, lots of screws rolling around in there heads.
Coach Ditka is a MORON.  Hey, Coach!!! Reality Check - they're shipping American jobs overseas to make a quick $.  And the Repugs SUPPORT that.  How can you get a job if its over in Taiwan?  Idiot.

Its easy for your millionaire-ass to tell laid-off people to "go get a job."  What a jerk

The gall of those companies. Point them out will you? Obama needs to raise their taxes to punish them. And that will make them hire more people too.
Palin and Ditka speaking to the new Republican base - the low-information voters.
My mother is from Latrobe, my father is from Pittsburgh.   I don't think they're buying what McCain and (especially) Palin are selling right now.  Quite frankly, the idea of the Alaska Governor ascending to the presidency scares them to death!

Obama, on the other hand... far LESS scary.

Happy Halloween, everyone!

Yes, Josh, I heard her on the radio.  One of those "I want change" Obamatots waiting for their welfare checks.  Yes, most all of you posting here, will be on welfare when Obama starts his fake "tax cut" which is really the socialistic way of redistributing income by taking it from some and giving it to others.

Also, just curious how all you Obamatots figure Obama is really going to "take care" of  you?  His brother lives in a hut in Africa on $12 per year.  His aunt, as First Read noted on another page, lives in a slum in Boston.  If the man won't help his own destitute family member (with his $4 million income last year), why in the hell do you think  he will really "take care" of you?  He's a fake and a fraud who is going to destroy this country by over-taxing business and paying people to sit on their A**es.
Wow, a washed up movie star, a washed up football coach and Joe The Plumber.......can you get any BIGGER star power than this in the final push?
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha This shows you exactly where the McCain/Palin campaign is......in the tank!                   Obama/Biden '08/'12!!
Obama may well be compared to two outstanding young presidents, JFK and Abe Lincoln.  Like these two, Obama has intellect, judgement, and the ability to inspire and to lead.
Eh, Ditka is just a juicebox boy.

Everyone wave bye to juicebox. Bye juicebox. I SAID WAVE!
Palin: Get your kids off the public scene!!  Do you actually need that big of a crutch and why aren't they in school like all the other kids across the nation?
Ditka the "true do it yourselfer" does not want to hand out anything, to anyone, at anytime to help all of America move forward. Under the current Bush/McCain tax/economic policies. I am sure he has made out like a bandit! The probem with "do it yourselfers" like Ditka. Is that they only "do it themselves" when others are picking up the check. Have you gone shopping with "Puppet Palin" yet Ditka? Better be careful Ditka, because she will have the RNC picking up the check.  That is fact! Think Ditka before you speak in public, and read the statistics carefully. Over the last 8 years 95% of Americans have been economically killed. The only "trick" here today America on Halloween is the poisonous economic "treats" that they are "spewing" to continue to give America economically. If these two so-called "do it yourselfers" come to your door tonight for treats. Make sure you give them a good "trick," and call the police! Happy Halloween!
Polls are always have undervalued representation for Republicans. That's because most of them are at work when the pollsters call.

---------------------------------------------------

This pretty much sums up the tone of the entire McCain campaign and many of their supporters.  Attack and put others down to make yourself look better.

It amuses me what people "understand" about liberal or conservative policies. "Liberal" ideas & ideals include giving women & blacks the right to vote, graduated income tax, safety regulations... I'm surprised everyone isn't considered at least a little "liberal"...
Mr. Ditka, many are willing to work but the work isn't there.

Why are so many stating that Republicans are working and that's why they aren't home when pollsters call? If you are working, why are you posting now when you are supposed to be at work. And what is this that liberals aren't "real men", "real people", "real Americans"? What we are are real people who believe in the "United States" of America, not one for just Republicans or conservatives. When did liberal become such a dirty word? Just asking. By the way, I am retired after working most of my life and raising my sons on my own.
Then the da'coach bared his butt to the audience and said 'Kiss it!'.
