DNC ad marks Obama's first 100 days

Posted: Monday, April 27, 2009 10:50 AM by Mark Murray
Filed Under: , , ,

From NBC's Mark Murray
The Democratic National Committee has unveiled a new TV ad it will air tomorrow and Wednesday to mark President Obama's first 100 days in office. The ad recounts Obama signing his economic stimulus into law, as well as the Lily Ledbetter Act and S-CHIP.

The DNC says the ad will run on national cable and in DC (read: it's a relatively small buy).

It ends with Obama saying, “Now is the time to act boldly and wisely -- to not only revive this economy but to build a new foundation for lasting prosperity. Now is the time to jump-start job creation, restart lending, and invest in areas like energy, health care, and education that will grow our economy, even as we make hard choices to bring our deficit down.”

3,2,1.... There you go righties, it's your cue.  I myself am very pleased with the job our Pres is doing.  Don't agree with all his decisions, but am convinced he has America's best interest at heart.  It breaks my heart to see wihat has happened with our schools in this country.  About time someone focused on education.
Just more proof of the endless campaign post-election politics has become.

Ok, now is perhaps the time for Obama to push some other legislation that had no chance to pass during the Bush era...like the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes bill, and the Employment Non-Discrimination Act.
All fluff. All Obama. All the time.

When is this guy going to get off the party circuit and get to work?
Great ad DNC!  It's so nice to be able to brag about accomplishments as the DNC while the RNC has nothing but failure to report.  Heckuva Job Steelie!

In the DNC We Trust!
Jewel v. NSA, EFF’s litigation against the National Security Agency for the warrantless wiretapping of countless Americans, the Obama Administration’s made two deeply troubling arguments.

First, they argued, exactly as the Bush Administration did on countless occasions, that the state secrets privilege requires the court to dismiss the issue out of hand. They argue that simply allowing the case to continue “would cause exceptionally grave harm to national security.” As in the past, this is a blatant ploy to dismiss the litigation without allowing the courts to consider the evidence.

It’s an especially disappointing argument to hear from the Obama Administration. As a candidate, Senator Obama lamented that the Bush Administration “invoked a legal tool known as the ’state secrets’ privilege more than any other previous administration to get cases thrown out of civil court.” He was right then, and we’re dismayed that he and his team seem to have forgotten.

Sad as that is, it’s the Department Of Justice’s second argument that is the most pernicious. The DOJ claims that the U.S. Government is completely immune from litigation for illegal spying — that the Government can never be sued for surveillance that violates federal privacy statutes.

This is a radical assertion that is utterly unprecedented. No one — not the White House, not the Justice Department, not any member of Congress, and not the Bush Administration — has ever interpreted the law this way.

Previously, the Bush Administration has argued that the U.S. possesses “sovereign immunity” from suit for conducting electronic surveillance that violates the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). However, FISA is only one of several laws that restrict the government’s ability to wiretap. The Obama Administration goes two steps further than Bush did, and claims that the US PATRIOT Act also renders the U.S. immune from suit under the two remaining key federal surveillance laws: the Wiretap Act and the Stored Communications Act. Essentially, the Obama Adminstration has claimed that the government cannot be held accountable for illegal surveillance under any federal statutes.

Again, the gulf between Candidate Obama and President Obama is striking. As a candidate, Obama ran promising a new era of government transparency and accountability, an end to the Bush DOJ’s radical theories of executive power, and reform of the PATRIOT Act. But, this week, Obama’s own Department Of Justice has argued that, under the PATRIOT Act, the government shall be entirely unaccountable for surveilling Americans in violation of its own laws.

This isn’t change we can believe in. This is change for the worse.
Just when is the economy going to be 'revived'? Obama and the Democrats can only blame Bush for so long, and that act is now starting to get a little thread bare. All this money Obama has spent is now the taxpayers responsibility to pay for. When those taxpayers find out that tiny $500 'tax refund' Obama gave them pales to the tens thousands they'll owe when they have to start paying off Obama's debt, those taxpayers are not going to be very have with the big BO.
Maybe the DNC can tell us all about all the newly unemployed people since the Democrats took control.
DNC Ad: "Now is the time to jump-start job creation, restart lending, and invest in areas like energy, health care, and education that will grow our economy, even as we make hard choices to bring our deficit down."

Seeing it's the Democrats that doubled the deficit, it's kind of a mystery how they are going to reduce it. Still waiting on that "grow the economy" thing to kick in too, seeing it seems to be shrinking at an increasing rate.

And, how many jobs has Obama saved today?

'...Fox Poll: Voters Want Obama, Dem Cong Reelected
by Jonathan Singer, Sun Apr 26, 2009 at 05:51:08 PM EST

The viewers of Fox News may not agree, but the no one can fudge the numbers from the network's own polling (.pdf) showing that Americans like Barack Obama, and to a lesser extent the Democratic Congress, and want to see both reelected.

In the next congressional election in 2010, are you more likely to vote for the Democrat to help Barack Obama pass his policies and programs or vote for the Republican to provide a check on Obama's power? [question slightly reformatted]

Democrat: 46 percent
Republican: 33 percent

If the 2012 presidential election were held today, would you definitely vote to reelect Barack Obama, probably vote to reelect Obama, probably vote for someone else, or definitely vote for someone else?

Vote to reelect Obama: 52 percent (37 percent definitely, 15 percent probably)
Vote for someone else: 31 percent (23 percent definitely, 8 percent probably)

There's very little good in these numbers for the GOP. Starting first with the 2010 data, fewer Republicans (78 percent) than Democrats (86 percent) want to vote for a congressional candidate of their own party, and Independents lean slightly towards the Democrats (33 percent to 26 percent, with a large 34 percent plurality saying it's too soon to be pushed in one direction or the other).

The 2012 numbers look even worse for the GOP, with President Obama maintaining a robust +21 reelect number, including a +14 number among those definitely supporting or opposing him. Digging deeper into the weeds, 13 percent of Republicans would vote to reelect the President, compared with the 9 percent support he received from Republican voters in 2008, and Independents line up in favor of a second term by a 15-point margin, nearly double the 8-point victory he scored within such voters last fall.

You might think that this would lead the GOP to change it's failing ways. But judging from the past few months, as well as the latest posturing from the party, I don't know how likely that outcome is...'

But, let's not count our chickens before they hatch
Obama has to get the Economy going to be re-elected
Please focus on job creation like you promised, Obama!!
Obama is building in the right place,on bedrock instead of the soft sand the republicans chose to build.Obama has done more in his first hundred then LIttle GW did if the first four years.See little thought we elected him so he could spend his time hayseeding around his ranch,I mean the ranch props they used to make the Cowboy more boy.The republicans are so confused and have stooped to throwing everything at him they can dig up,they missed the pre-game,Hillary tried it,Bomber tried it,Cantor,Bohner,Sean, Rush stumble over them selfs slinging there spew, the lies, the anti americans they are.And the talking heads are on there defend torture tour, trying to make an argument that they got good information,to date non of it has come to light, maybe Darth should look under the rock he calls home, maybe thats where the memo's are!
It has NOW become more than self- evident, especially with the polls, the banks, insurance giants, jobs, and don't forget the swine flu's possible pandemic, that Our President is doing something.   Hear this right wing nuts...  Those things will be tangible, e.g. shovels and tech jobs something people can see the results of as they are being done and completed.
It's time for all good people to come to the aid of their country. Stop blocking progress Clueless right wing nuts.

It's time to think of what needs to be done and not attack the HMS.

Beverly in Chicago (Sent Monday, April 27, 2009 10:17 AM)

Where was that logic from you the last 8 years.  When all you could do is blame Bush for EVERYTHING!!!

Hey Bev.  It looks like the other side of your face is showing!

Now, we get to do what you have been doing for 8 years - its kind of fun!

Say it with me...

Its Obama's Fault
Its Obama's Fault
Its Obama's Fault

Now I feel better - how about you?
========================================
>>>>>>>>>>>Its Obama's Fault:
It's never fun to watch others suffer. BTW: Do you really think our President is the Messiah? It's Not Obama's Fault. He doesn't control the universe!

Do you naysayers REALLY BELIEVE THAT 8 YEARS CAN BE UNDONE IN 3 MONTHS???

or do you just like to whine?
Cathy and Jason - it took 8 years to get to where we are today - Pres Obama is doing the best he can with what he's been left.  Are you sick of hearing that?  I'm sick of hearing Repugs blame our CIC for this mess!
So, other than complaining about President Obama, what has the Republican Party accomplished in the first hundred days?

- Released a budget plan with no numbers
- Apologized profusely to Rush Limbaugh
- Helped states plan to secede from the union
- Attempted to refuse federal stimulus money in
 states with the highest unemployment
- Held teaparty protests to protest a tax cut
- Crticized the President for smiling too much and
 working well with others
- Identified themselves as right wing extremists
- Elected first African American RNC leader, who
announce plans for an "off the hook" "hip hop"
 outreach effort
- Criticized President for not being "bipartisan"
because he would not do what they said
- Unleashed Dick Cheney from his undisclosed location

I'd day it's been a very productive time, no?

Well done Republican Party!
Pre-Obie:

All we ever read from MSNBC was about the unemployment rate rising

Post-Obie:

No Mention from MSNBC about the unemployment numbers, enen though they have gone up hundred thousands

WHY:  Marxist Socialist National Barack Channel (MSNBC)

OVER 20,000 MORE PEOPLE ARE LOSING THEIR JOBS EVERY DAY OBIE IS KING

Great Job - If your goal is to destroy america and its jobs - then GREAT FREAKIN JOB

Well done Republican Party!
Nashville_fan (Sent Monday, April 27, 2009 11:17 AM)

Looks like the GOP has been more productive then Obama. Obama has increased the debt by double, unemployment by an additional 2%, kissed dicators butts, and is letting an epidemic of killer flu roll through the country.

Not so well done Obama and the Democrats.
"Just when is the economy going to be 'revived'? Obama and the Democrats can only blame Bush for so long..."

Um, Obama hasn't even been in office for 100 days (until Wed)...it took the Republicans'(and willing Democrats in Congress, let's be honest)Reaganism THREE DECADES to do this to the economy...and you want it fixed in less than 100 days? That is absurd, to say the least...The biggest economic catastrophe in, what, 75 years - and people expect Obama to wave a magic wand and fix it in 3 months.

The sad thing is - there are too many people with short memories, short attention spans and who are short on patience.
More layoffs this week coming.  GM to let thousands off.

Doing a great job Bammy...
Love how you continue to spend money like a drunken sailor and have nothing to show for it.

Where's the high paying jobs Bammy?
Why is it that so-called "conservatives" bristle at government intervention, and yet, when given free reign to do as they please, they steal, plunder, and torture the economy and Constitution?

We the people gave you what you wanted, and you came up with predatory mortgage loans, unsecured debt obligations, and million dollar toilets for your selves and sky high gas prices, jobs shipped overseas, and stolen pensions and retirments for the rest of us.

So go away with your whining already.

Many of you are lucky that you aren't in jail already.

Messiah? Hardly. Obama is one of the biggest nit-wits to ever walk the face of the earth.
The Bush administration toppled the world's economy. It happened on his watch and that is just a fact. It is not a Democratic idea, it is global knowledge. The current state of unemployment started prior to President Obama taking office.

Blame it on the rain if you must, but isn't it just like those that prefer to keep their heads stuck in the sand. The unemployment rate was sprialing out of control before President Obama took office and it was far worse than the world knew.

The Bush Administration had zero oversight and allowed the nation to be plundered by his parties cronies. Facts are facts...

Clearly.

Riddle me this . . . when you say the President increased unemployment by 2% . . . what do you mean? What action by the President led to unemployment increasing?

When you say the President kissed dictator butt, are you referring to Bank Presidents or AIG executives?

Well, at least he isn't looking into their souls, huh?

I actually think the entire mess started with President Chester Arthur, the father of Supply Side economics.
Comparing Pres Obama's bowing to Bushies kissing and holding hands is a joke, a joke on right wing nut jobs.  If that's all you got, no wonder your struggling to define yourselves.  I believe Pres Obama and Bush were doing what they felt was a show of respect at the time.  Open up your minds, try to see the forest thru the trees.  The deer in the headlights things is going to get you run over!!!
Nashville Fan, do you even believe the ridiculous things you say?
'Helped states plan to secede from the union'  One governor made a secession comment, so the GOP helped states plan?
'Held teaparty protests to protest a tax cut.'  Please.  That was hardly what that was about.
'Crticized the President for smiling too much.'  Really, Nashville Fan?
'Criticized President for not being "bipartisan"    because he would not do what they said.'  Give me a break.

Anita, Birmingham, Alabama - The unemployment rate was sprialing out of control before President Obama took office and it was far worse than the world knew.

No it wasn't. It started to get real deep, 600,000+ job cuts a month, after Obama was elected. Businesses knew who would be paying for all of Obama's socialized spending programs, and they started cutting people right after he was elected.

Oh Well...he applied for the job.........now that he is POTUS, he can everything is not so easy as it is to complain about on a campaign trail.....all that complaining about Bush to receive votes has got his butt in a twist........the shoe is on the other foot now........ITS BUSH'S FAULT...we know, we know.....that is getting old, but I'll let you have it for a couple of more months..then it is YOUR fault...

Your entitled to YOUR opinion but not your own facts.....The fact is if Bush was a new POTUS right now, ou would be blaming everything on him because he is the POTUS.....just like a lot is blamed on Bush that he personally had nothing to do with.....Obama is going to get the same..what goes around, comes around...He wanted to be POTUS, now suck it up.....you guys put him on a pedestal like his sh** don't stink...suck it up
OBAMA'S "TRASH & PROPAGANDA" TALK.

No it wasn't. It started to get real deep, 600,000+ job cuts a month, after Obama was elected. Businesses knew who would be paying for all of Obama's socialized spending programs, and they started cutting people right after he was elected.

Bull, facts are facts. Wasn't Michigan losing jobs at an alarming rate during the election. Unemployment in you state alone was in the double digits. Hell I was born and it wasn't just yesterday either. President Obama is not to blame for the financial crisis that forced companies that lost money in the markets to lay off people. Economics 101, reading is fundamental.

How long do you think that it will take us to get out of this Depression? How bad do you really think that it is? Oops, my bad...you probably think that this is just a figmentation of "our" imagination. This really isn't that bad hu?
Great job, Mr. President! The nay sayers will continue to say no and offer up no viable alternatives. They hate for the sake of it. Sad, isn't it, sir. I still have faith in you. Don't let me down.
"just like a lot is blamed on Bush that he personally had nothing to do with"...IntheMiddle,TX(Sent Monday, April 27,2009 11:46 AM) Like what? Please enlighten me on some of those things.  I don't put anyone "on a pedestal", but, the mere fact that our president is doing the best he can with what he was handed is admiral to me and to see him going about his job, while remembering the last 100 days or so of the former president who just sat there and watched the clock run out, makes me admire him even more.
So 8 years means nothing. Bush did nothing at all? That is what I am hearing from our friends on the right. This mess just happened. You know, stuff happens, right? The CEO is never at fault, it must have been some dufus underling that caused all this mess, right? The CEO is only responsible for the good stuff and not the bad stuff, right? That is what I am hearing from the right, well, of course unless the CEO is named Clinton or Carter than it must be all their fault because a rightie never makes a mistake. And if he ever does never, ever admits it. Americans are smarter than that. We proved it last November and March 31 in New York's 20th Congressional District. We'll show that again in Minnesota Senate race if it ever ends.

I have to laugh when they say Obama talks trash and propaganda.....So Rush Limbaugh is a total truth teller? Please ditto heads spare me the side splitting gaffaws. Closed minds and closed ears and eyes aren't the way to go. Wake up Repubs. Move to the center and get your collective acts together and you'll be fine.
President Obama has to be doing a great job!  Bonehead,Limpbut, and Cantnot and the other 6 people in the repuglican party are having fits and stumbling over themselves..it's a hoot!

What a load of crap..... his so called accomplisments too!
Barack, where is my energy rebate check?

I thought Bush and Cheney were in the pocket of Big Oil and screwing everyone. Remember your phony campaign promise where you were going to put a windfall profit tax on Big Oil and give every American an energy rebate. I guess after you bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia, he took you behind closed doors and explained to you who really runs the United States of America!

I expect oil prices to come down now that Barack is cool with Chavez, who controls the state run PDVSA (Venezuela is an OPEC member) and Baracks deep waist bow to the King of Saudi Arabia, who controls the state owned Saudi Aramco, the worlds largest oil company (NOT ExxonMobil). When are you going to spread that wealth around Barack?
