First thoughts: In Obama we trust?

*** In Obama we trust? Maybe now we understand why the RNC was so fired up about last night’s town hall. President Obama, while peppered with tough questions about the issue, got an hour on national TV to make the case that he can be trusted to reform the health-care system. Remember, it's not about winning the debate on whether his way is RIGHT; it's about securing the TRUST of skeptical Americans that he'll take their concerns and go about this with care. And on that score, this is where we probably get why so many of the president's opponents were upset. This format was in the president's wheelhouse. Whether you agree with him or not, it's obvious he has a deep grasp of the issue, and no doubt he only helped his cause. Of course, we don't yet know how many folks watched. But the perception that he got into the details most likely is only a help to him, even if those details become unpopular. By the way, it doesn't appear the president committed any news, though some noted that he continued to leave open the door for supporting a tax on some health-care benefits. Also health care remains in today’s news as liberals and progressives rally for reform on Capitol Hill at 11:30 am ET.

*** Social conservatism hits rock bottom? These certainly haven't been the best of times for social conservatives. Democrats control the White House and Congress. The problems at home and abroad have drowned out social issues (with congressional Republicans deciding to focus their fire on the economy). And now here's perhaps the biggest embarrassment: In less than two weeks, two of their own -- John Ensign and Mark Sanford -- have admitted to committing adultery. Just five years after it helped re-elect George W. Bush, has social conservatism in American politics hit rock bottom? If so, what does that mean for a political party that has largely tied its fortunes to this movement? As we've said before, infidelity is a bipartisan affair, but Republicans tend to receive more criticism because they more often portray themselves as the party protecting family values and marriage. Yet what happens when one can make the argument that the highest-profile example of family values and marriage -- right now -- isn’t a Republican or social conservative, but rather the man who resides at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.? The issue for the GOP at this point is convincing grassroots social conservatives not to lose faith. As one of the leading social conservative voices in the party lamented to the New York Times, “I think there is somewhat of an identity crisis in the Republican Party,” said Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council,  “Are they going to be a party that attracts values voters, and are they going to be the party that lives by those values?”

Video: Governor Mark Sanford, R-SC, resigned today as chair of the Republican Governors Association after admitting his affair with an Argentinean woman. Rachel Maddow is joined by Daily Beast contributor Mark McKinnon to assess the impact on the Republican Party.

*** More on Sanford and 2012: Sticking with Sanford and his troubles, there’s lots of analysis this morning focusing on the bad six months the GOP has had -- particularly for Republicans who have tested the 2012 waters (see yesterday's First Read). A few things to watch for: One, who will pick up the mantle of the pure economic conservative/free market libertarian? Two, will grassroots social conservatives start expressing publicly their outrage over Sanford and Ensign and others and become harder to galvanize for the Republican Party as a whole? Three, do folks like Mitt Romney and Haley Barbour end up getting a big perception bump going into 2012 as the establishment looks for grownups who have been around the national political block before? Speaking of Barbour, he was in New Hampshire yesterday, and today he’ll be in Des Moines, IA for a GOP dinner. He’s an extraordinary fundraiser and helped lead the GOP’s comeback to power in 1994, when he served as RNC chairman. On the other hand, he’s a former lobbyist and Washington insider, as well as an older white male from the Deep South. By the way, thanks to the Sanford resignation, Barbour now has more excuses to travel nationally as he's now chair of the Republican Governors Association.

*** The “Thugocracy”? The news doesn't look encouraging this morning in Iran. Many experts and media reports are now noting what appears to be the new inevitable: that the Iranian regime's crackdown has been a success. That said, this morning, Iran is not a country that is being viewed as a theocracy -- but a good ol’ fashioned dictatorship. Richard Haas of the Council on Foreign Relations (who's not exactly a rhetorical bomb-thrower) called the regime a "thugocracy." And to add evidence to its dictatorship tendencies, check out the L.A. Times report indicating that the TRUE heir apparent to the Supreme Leader is his son. That's how dictatorships act, not republics or democracies. So if the reality on the ground is now that the uprising has been beaten back, what's next for U.S. policy? Right now, it appears any efforts the Obama administration had wanted to make are now on hold (or in the words of one official "on ice"). Robert Gibbs all but said any unilateral efforts were being pushed aside. There is still an open hand on the multi-lateral front (P5+1), but that's always been the case.

Video: There were more reports Wednesday of forceful crackdowns on Iranian protesters as the country's leadership said election results will not be overturned. NBC's Chief Foreign Correspondent Richard Engel reports.

Immigration returns: In the past few days, the issues of health care and Iran have dominated Obama’s agenda and public statements. But today, he turns his attention to the thorny subject of immigration reform, as he meets with bipartisan members of Congress at 2:00 pm ET to discuss this subject. The meeting comes a day after Sen. Chuck Schumer (D), who chairs the Senate subcommittee that would write any immigration reform legislation, laid out his principles, and after immigration advocates pressed the Obama White House to make immigration reform a priority -- this year. In a conference call, Bishop Jaime Soto of Sacramento said that the meeting will tell them whether the White House is serious about enacting comprehensive immigration reform or whether it's timid. "Delaying immigration reform will be a mistake," he said, arguing that the country can no longer accept the status quo. The event is a reminder of how this issue has become so difficult for members of both parties. The president won Latinos 2 to 1, has powerful Democratic majorities, and yet admits he might not have the votes to pass comprehensive immigration reform. After today, will Obama use his political capital to make immigration reform happen this year or next?

*** Add energy to the mix, too: Also on the agenda is the issue of energy. As NBC’s Mike Viqueira reported last night, the House is now on course to take up its energy bill on Friday, after a deal was struck between Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the chairman of the Agriculture Committee, Colin Peterson. The pair appeared at a press conference to announce their agreement. Peterson, Viq notes, had been an influential holdout as he sought the best possible deal for farmers. And today, Pelosi, other Dem leaders, and Al Gore will appear at a press rally at 2:00 pm ET.

*** The rest of Obama’s day: In addition to his meeting on immigration, Obama (along with the first lady) participates in a service event at 10:00 am ET at Fort McNair. Per the White House, they will “join hundreds of congressional family members and five national nonprofit organizations … to prepare 15,000 backpacks with books, healthy snacks, frisbees and other items for the children of servicemen and women.” In the evening, the First Couple and Vice President Biden will host a luau on the South Lawn for members of Congress and their families. One other item on today’s agenda: Biden and Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood will announce that states have already met the goal of obligating 50% of the highway funds in the stimulus by the June 29 deadline.

***

Bernanke's tough day? It could get ugly at a House committee hearing today featuring Fed Chair Ben Bernanke, and the markets could very well over-react to what happens in that hearing room. The issue of what role the government played in pushing Bank of America to buy Merrill Lynch is going to be front and center. And the criticism of the Republican-appointed Bernanke is going to come from Republicans, while Democrats may sit silent or quietly defend him. We'll see.

*** 2009 watch: And also on Capitol Hill today, New Jersey GOP gubernatorial nominee Chris Christie will appear at 11:00 a.m. ET before the Democratically-controlled House Judiciary Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative Law to testify about million-dollar no-bid monitoring contracts he awarded while U.S. attorney. Per the Star-Ledger, the panel seeks to reform such “deferred prosecution agreements,” like the one Christie gave his former boss John Ashcroft, “worth as much as $52 million,” for monitoring a medical device maker Christie was investigating for Medicare fraud. Democrats are desperately hoping that something comes out of today’s hearing to help the very vulnerable Jon Corzine.

Republicans, and for that matter people that oppose the government nationalizing health care (and that includes many Democrats), should be upset with the one sided view, Obama and the liberal Democrats view, shown by ABC. Many, if not all, in the audience of Obama's thought health care was "broken". Did ABC ask the question "How many think government is broken?". I bet that would have gotten a high percentage "yes" votes.
To Quote Eric Cant nor Won’t even try this morning on Joke’s Show:   blah blah  blah ‘crazy talk’ blah blah blah…

Hey Senator Durbin – some advice to you as well… grow a PAIR!  The mealy mouth mush that came out of you yesterday on the Ed Show ain’t gonna CUT IT! WE WANT Quality Affordable Healthcare for ALL AMERICANS… Are you LISTENING???

Wonder if Bill Clinton can find it in his heart to forgive Scumbag Sanford?  After all Sanford was quite vocal when it came to Bill’s indiscretions! Once again  brought to you by the party of do as I say… not as I do!
And as long as were on the subject of Family Values… Big shout out to MC in LV over on HP for coining the phrase…
The Wasilla Chillbillies… too perfect!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey Feisty, I'm not defending Sanford, but as I recall John Edwards and Elliot Spitzer are Democrats.  This is not a Republican problem.  This is a problem with politicians in general.  Their egos are unchecked, and they think they can get away with anything.
Hey Mike (tried to get this out to you yesterday) I’m right there with you… I don’t care if you have a (D) or a (R) after your name… what these men do to their family’s is despicable! And we are in desperate need of some term limits on both sides of the aisle!
The bigger issue though is Democrats AREN’T the ONES sticking their noses in everyone’s bedroom while hiding behind the Family Values Flag!
25 issues of Time magazine so far this year. Obama or his family have been on the cover of 17 of them. Maybe Time(CNN) is a little bias?
California is now issuing IOUs to pay its bills. The federal government has been doing that for years. Just look in the Social Security "lockbox" if you want to see a bunch of them.
These certainly haven't been the best of times for social conservatives.
Understatement of the year.
GOP: When you live in a glass house....
http://www.thepajamapundit.com/
The Stanford “Affair”
Democrats snicker when Republicans get caught. Ed Schultz was so full of glee, he acted like Limbaugh!   Republicans remember all the Democrats who have fallen from grace.  I would like to think that it is a wound-up too tight conservative problem, but it is not.  Progressive can be equally guilty of indiscretions.
Most politicians have apologized.  Some have resigned from office.  A few withstood the heat and remained in office.  Senator McCain and Past President Bill Clinton come to mind.
What determines whether a governor or senator survives in office?  I think two things: 1) the degree of hypocrisy and 2) if they used taxpayers money.  It these two criteria hold.  Senator John Ensign and Governor Mark Sanford will not survive.
Our President has set a very high standard when it comes to family values.  He is a great husband, father, and an outstanding role model for us all.  Before you attack this last comment, when did you take your spouse out on date night? Or buy your kids a swing set and a puppy?
Obama promised 600,000 jobs for the summer months. Now that the economy continues to slip, can we now hear a bid for 400,000 jobs? 200,000 jobs? Any jobs?
And many want this same crew to run health care?
Obie is easily becoming the worst prez in history, even surpassing Carter.
When Obie is done America will be broke and an easy target for attack.
And The Saga Continues...
As the nasty details of Gov. Sanford’s personal life unfolds before the world, we continue to hear the sordid details of his infidelity striped bare before the world, couldn’t help but think about all of the self righteous statements and comments he’s made over the years and especially the ones concerning former President Bill Clinton.
Governor Sanford should follow is own advice and resign from his position as Governor. Although I don’t live in South Carolina and neither did he live in Washington when he asked for Former President Clinton’s resignation?
Not only do I feel that it’s the fair thing to do but the right thing to do. I was always taught as a child to be careful what you say about people, because you actually pronounce your own judgments.
The Republican Party in itself is being exposed for what it truly is. There is more news to come about Governor Sanford because he really hasn’t been honest. Why visit your Mistress on Father’s Day when you have young children of your own?
These politicians and ministers kill me with getting up before the public to confess their “sins” to America; playing on our sympathies then keeping their seats. Both he and Sen. Ensign should resign from public service.
They ran their offices on the platforms of self righteousness, it only right that both of them should be “forced” to practice what they’ve preached.
If they want us out of their bedrooms, then they shouldn’t put their bedrooms and family value ideas and dangerous personal religious opinions on the public stage. No man is worthy to sit in the seat of judgment.
By the way…we don’t judge others out here, we voice opinions on subject matter…this statement is for those that will attempt to counter my comment.
FR: It could get ugly at a House committee hearing today featuring Fed Chair Ben Bernanke,
And why shouldn't it. It's Bernanke and Obama, and Pelosi, and Reid that keep telling us the economy is getting better and the recession is soon to be over. And most every piece of major data that comes out doesn't support those predictions. Bernanke is responsible for printing trillions of dollars and pumping that money into the world economy. It's destroyed the value of the dollar to the point many other countries don't want to base the world economy on the dollar anymore. Bernanke has a lot to answer for.
On Obama we trust?
Are you people nuts?
Now your stealing qoutes from Eric in Salinas, another gullible who hasn't quite bottomed out yet, but it's coming.
Raising taxes in a deep recession to pay for the trillions health care will cost will only destroy any economy the US has left. If people want to see greater then 15% unemployment, and soup lines, and a depression, then pass Obama health care plan.
If Americans don’t mind paying taxes for supporting a tax on some health-care benefits, what is the Party of NO‘s Problem? The Media Fairness Caucus is nothing more than the repetitive capitalist, smear Obama, keep the status quo syndrome with Sen. Dianne Feinstein, included by jumping ship.
the repubs are focusing their fire on the economy, and they are they ones who bancrupted our economy in the first place. maybe they should concentrate on good conservative values? "OH sorry they can't do that anymore either.
That sounds like a shout out to eric in salinas!!
Obama did nothing to sell his health care plan last night. Nothing but make people realize how expensive it will be and how little they'll get, and even how much they'll lose.
Man, they roughed up ABC for that Obama debacle, that is, the hour-long commercial promoting  a sad health care plan.
The net work will certainly lose viewers, and that's a good thing.
Just being brutally honest, Obama probably hurt his causes more then he helped them with his rambling incoherent answers on ABC last night.
The rad in Obama is crystal clear, just like the rules.
Don't aske me any questions I can't handle and I'll do what i damn well please to run this country into the ground.
Pelosi just admitted she doesn't have the votes for the energy/environment tax bill she's trying to ram through the House in less then three days.
One down, three to go (Immigration, Healthcare, Second Stimulus bill).
These hypocrits on both sides of the aisle who talk of family values and parade their spouses and children in front of the cameras while they are engaging in extramarital affairs is troubling to me.  But even more troubling are those who deny the right of marriage to gays because they want to protect the "sanctity of marriage" at the same time they betray that sanctity themselves.  The patience shown by the gay community is amazing to me.
I think our President should flesh out a 4 year time table of the issues he wants to tackle.  This way, those groups that want issues brought up such as immigration, gay marriage, and so forth do not lose hope.
With all that is going on, not everything can be done day 1...but knowing it will get tackled on day 400 would give groups peace of mind.
This is for you both Governor's....
'Didn't commit any news last night'?  I'd say the comment that stopping treatments for old people for whom death is nearer than the rest of us is pretty newsworthy.   My parents are in their eighties and that pretty much scared the hell out of me.
One other item on today’s agenda: Biden and Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood will announce that states have already met the goal of obligating 50% of the highway funds in the stimulus by the June 29 deadline.
<><><><><><><<><><>
Since all states and territories met the deadline at least 10 days early, right wing Dings STFU What have you accomplished besides a devastating record of poverty, unemployment and 2 wars (which could have been the money we need to keep this economy afloat)?
>> Hey Senator Durbin – some advice to you as well… grow a PAIR!  The mealy mouth mush that came out of you yesterday on the Ed Show ain’t gonna CUT IT! WE WANT Quality Affordable Healthcare for ALL AMERICANS… Are you LISTENING??? <<
Healthcare is just so dead, especially after last night with Obama's awful townhall meeting.
Finally got a small answer on who will get taxes to pay for this boon-doggle - everyone! You'll now have to pay a tax for your healthcare benefit from your employer. Oh, and the others that are going to get taxed are the rich people that give to charities. I'm so sure Obama will sign legislation that takes money from charities. He'd be thrown out of office if he made that stupid of a move.
I think we Dems should go on record as acknowleging that the political winds are at our back and not the Repubs'.  We really don't hold a moral superiority; we just haven't gotten caught - lately.
With that said, Governor Sanford, how do you solve a problem like Maria?  Because I am a cynic, let me just say - I think she is pregnant.  As Senator Ensign just proved - 'family' men don't typically 'voluntarily' throw their careers away, there are usually extenuating circumstances.  It sounds like Mr. Sanford is in a legitimate pickle.
My thoughts are with his family as they sort this out.
--------
I didn't see the 'after the jump' portion of the 'town hall' in the blue room last night.  We cut to local news and I flipped over to Rachel, when the news was over I cut back to ABC; but they were showing some lame rerun.  I flipped to CSPAN and the crowd was dispersing.
The invective about ABC doing a 'fluff' piece on healthcare is more whining.  If anyone thinks this isn't one of the most important Public Interest issues of our time, they are completely out of touch.  FOX has an entire channel dedicated to the naysayers, if I want to hear the chant of "can't", I know where to go, they don't need to advertise.
-----------
If John Ashcroft was involved, I am sure there is something 'less than legitimate' about it.  This is the former Attorney General who was on board with the "Patriot Act",...tell me again why that hasn't been repealed?  Hmmmm?
He can be trusted by me. He is the only seating president that has "at least" been fair and opened with us so far. I trust him to do what he said he would do. If it's isn't done it will affect him and his family when he leaves office. He has young children that have to live in this world. They won't be exempt from having to catch hell.
We will all catch hell together tring to survive if it's not done.
And now here's perhaps the biggest embarrassment: In less than two weeks, two of their own -- John Ensign and Mark Sanford -- have admitted to committing adultery.
Judge not least you be judged. Every judgement you mete, will be judge unto you. True this. These people need to stop playing the supreme religious selfrighteous charlatans that they are and come back to earth. If this doesn't get theri attention nothing else will.
They have stopped being concerned about the economy and issues the they should be attempting to repair due to their parties irresponsibility. Instead of doing that, they have focused on be destructive.
Their attempts at destruction is not affecting any single person. They are attempting to punish the public. Every time I think about their antics I get angry. Smear and blame is all they know how to do.
I was always taught that the dumbest kid in class was always the loudest clown...because baudy behavior covered up their inabilities and lack of knowledge...an empty wagon, makes a lot of noise.
I agree Ron.  Ed acted like a total moron; I had to turn it off.  If this were the last pol to commit this act, it'd be one thing, but there's a 50% chance the next scandal will involve a Democrat.  And his words will haunt him then.
The liberals here want to talk about Sanford. And who can blame them? Everything else in Washington is falling apart for them. Healthcare reform, Immigration reform, Energy reform. Might as well talk about something shiny and insignificant, like a Republican scandle.
I love your first title - In Obama We Trust?  You Betcha!  I so love how Barack is taking his case for the public option for health care reform to the people and on national tv, just bummed I missed it.  While Barack goes around sounding like a responsible adult the repugnant ones just prove they are a bunch of spoiled brats who just want to stop any progress our country needs.
A Thugocracy - what a cute new term.  So that's what we were the past 8 years under Thugs Bush and Cheney who tried to do what Ahmadinejad is doing now, rigging elections, stopping dissent and wiretapping the citizens.  Yup fellow conservatives Ahmadinejad and Bush do have a lot in common as to being Thugs running a Thugocracy.  Thankfully we now have a real Democracy loving Democrat in the White House and lots of them controlling Congress so we are now back to our regular democracy programming.
So enjoyable to be a Democrat and a Liberal so that we can laugh with glee at Adulterer Sanford's confession of sin.  He was still trying to lie about his trip when Gina Smith met him at the Atlanta airport and if it weren't for the State newspaper having the goods on him he would have tried to lie his way out of his affair in Argentina.
Adulterer Sanford Resign Now!
Aw, gee why would Time put a dynamic, attractive, loving family on its cover?  Maybe we should put Gov.Sanford, his family and his squeeze on the cover?
Um, or maybe putting President Obama or his family on the cover sells magazines. It is a business you know. A for profit business.
The media is reporting in a manner that draws viewers, subscribers, and news stand sales. Plus, whether you like him or not, he is at the center of much that is going on.
Every single day I see comments in papers, on the web, in news magazines, and on TV from the republicans about how Obama's plan or actions(pick one, because they say it about all of them) are wrong, they are socialistic, and are going to destroy our country. The republicans get plenty of coverage, but haven't come out with much that is comprehensive or requires much analysis. All they do is say NO!
I watched the ABC broadcast last night.  As FR stated, Pres Obama once again showed his intelligence by the fact that he understands the full scope of the health care problems we face.  It is unfortunate, that many on the right cannot look beyond "democratic liberalism" to see the intelligence he has, he is a realist not some scarey cartoon that the GOP portrays.  Put aside the disagreement on policy and see Pres Obama as the smart guy who "gets it" and give him a chance instead of criticizing everything.  I know, that's too much to ask.  I believe that health care reform is crucial because in 10-20 years, the majority of us will not be able to afford insurance, companies will stop providing it due to costs and profit loss--that's the 800 lb gorilla in room that the republicans ignore.
Watching the long clips of Sanford's rambling, sometimes nonsensical confession yesterday, it just smacks that the only reason he confessed was he got caught and he knew it when the reporter met him at the airport.  His tears were crockodile ones because he knew his political career was probably damaged beyond repair.  He gets NO sympathy from me but his family does.  What a hypocrit.
Iran is a mess for sure.  No doubt the US must put discussions with them on hold until things calm down a bit.  Somehow, even though the protests have been stopped for now, one must hope that this will turn into a quiet revolution, a revolution within.  As has been said often, the genie is out of the bottle.
Barbour might be a good candidate for 2012 but FR has it right--old, white and southern which may not play as well as it did 15 years ago.  He is smart and a much better spokesperson that Newt Gingrich.
The immigration problem needs to be solved but it could wait until early next year although working on it in committes and geting ready makes good sense.  One thing I've noticed is that democrats are willing to tackle the hard stuff.  What did the republicans do from 2001-2006 except cut taxes and start two wars.  Maybe they did more but most of what they did was routine and easy.
Bad Chihuahua (Sent Thursday, June 25, 2009 9:38 AM)
Your nonsensical chatter is annoying, here's a newsflash - the country was 'BROKE' on January 19th of this year.  Quit acting like it was all fire hydrants and park space then.  Your hero, "0"  oops I mean "W" gave out without preconditions FAR MORE 'stimulus' money than President Obama has.  Selective memory really doesn't become you.
Hey Promise
You should know of at least one job; yours. Your job is to smear President Obama.
House energy bill: rubbish.  The only thing 'inconvenient' about the 'truth' of global warming/climate change is that nobody knows what the truth really is.  But that's not going to stop the Dimocrats from trying to foist this cap and trade nonsense on a public that seems to be oblivious to how this bill will impact their lives.
And oh by the way, it's supposed to be 'global warming' not 'America warming.' So exactly how is this intrusive legislation going to influence the behavior of big time polluters like China, India, etc?  Answer: it's not, so the misguided do gooders are putting the US of A at a competitive disadvantage in the global economy.   The left just doesn't get it.  But that's not news.
Hopefully we'll see the Democrats cram good energy legislation down the throats of the evil elephants.  Get ready to say Cap and Trade is the law of the land.  More good legislation that was needed long ago and ignored by Clueless George as he kept his energy pals polluting up a storm.
Bernanke needs to resing and we need someone with a clue who won't sell us out to his rich and greedy Wall Street pals running the Fed.  After the destruction of our economy by Greenspan and Beernanke's pathetic leadership we need someone who will come in and clean up Wall Street, not coddle them with unlimited pay and bonuses for the talent that wrecked the global ecnonomy.
I so enjoyed Jon Stewart's Moment of Zen last night as he showed the Mourning Jerk saying that when Adulterer Sanford came back he'd be wondering what was up with all the interest.  Man I bet he has furious that Adulterer Sanford made a fool out of him yesterday with his confession of sin.  Must have been funny watching him wipe the egg off his face this morning, the one thing I learned from his show is that the Mourning Jerk can't tell time as he went over his time slot to keep flapping his ignorant gums.
Just Say Yes to Cap and Trade!
Where is Elena Bobbitt now that we really need her ??
From the Politico:
'...Some Mark Sanford trips were taxpayer-paid
South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford has taken at least three taxpayer-paid trips to Argentina, however, it’s unclear whether he met his girlfriend during any of them.
At his news conference in Columbia Wednesday, Sanford said he paid for his most recent trip with is own money. “It was my own ticket,” he told reporters.
But sometime after his 2002 election as governor, Sanford traveled to Argentina on the dime of the South Carolina Department of Commerce.
Though it’s unclear precisely when the trip occurred, it likely would have taken place after he had met the woman. Sanford said Wednesday he met the woman eight years ago, though a romantic relationship did not develop until one year ago.
Sanford also traveled to China and Brazil through the state commerce department, and a review of its records late last year by state press found that taxpayers footed a total bill of $21,488 in Sanford travel. The governors’ office also spent $1,976 in travel for Sanford, according to the review.
In his January 2007 State of the State address, Sanford used changing air travel times between Miami and Buenos Aires as an example of technological innovations being carried out in his state...'
That IS INNOVATIVE !!
Get the Tax payers to pay for your nookie
Did Sanford buy any daipers while he was in Argentina ??
They got a lotta nice girls in China and Brazil !!
Thanks Obama. Thanks for standing up for freedom. thanks for standing up for fair elections. Thanks for standing up for the peaceful protestors that were slaughtered.
Thanks for nothing Obama.
Of course in President Obama we trust. What else is out there? The republicans, big business, lobbyists, special interests who have had control of our country for far too long and brought us to our knees??
We cannot depend or expect the insurance, drug companies, AMA, hospitals etc to even consider giving up their profits, bonuses, greed and quest for power without government intervention.
Public option is public choice. Of course the republicans do not want this. They sold us down the river many years ago.
And many want this same crew to run health care?
Most of us do. Because we understand the issues. And we understand that the economy had tremendous negative momentum. And we know that without the stimulus, things would be even worse.
If you spend money, it has to go into labor, materials, or profit. Labor obviously generates jobs. Materials generate jobs, too. Even if the material comes from outside the US, it takes labor to move it. So there is zero doubt that the stimulus is starting to generate some jobs. The problem is that it takes a long time to turn around an economy.
I don't like to meddle.
'Didn't commit any news last night'?  I'd say the comment that stopping treatments for old people for whom death is nearer than the rest of us is pretty newsworthy.   My parents are in their eighties and that pretty much scared the hell out of me.
Why didn't that get your notice, First Read?
