Who's supporting the troops now?

From NBC's Mark Murray
Pegged to the upcoming July 4 holiday, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee says it will begin airing radio ads against some targeted House Republicans -- including GOP Reps. Ken Calvert (CA), Charlie Dent (PA), and Lee Terry (NE) -- for voting against the recent war supplemental bill.

The ads will begin July 1 and will run for a week.

Here's a sample of one of the ads: "When George Bush asked, Congressman Terry voted to fully fund our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan," a narrator says. "And last year he said, quote, 'We must give our military every resource it needs.'"

It continues, "Seems like Congressman Terry is playing politics now. Last month Congressman Terry voted AGAINST funding for those same troops... It’s a shame. Call Lee Terry. Ask him why he voted against our troops. Ask him: What changed?"

Republicans who voted against the legislation say they supported the troops, but opposed it because it contained unnecessary spending, like money for the International Monetary Fund.

Ah, playing politics with those who lay down their lives for our freedom.  It never gets old....

The left are not supporting the troops with their irresponsible rhetoric and Pelosi wanting to release those Gitmo pics.

"I see a bad moon rising
I see trouble on the way
I see the end is coming soon
Don't come out tonight
There's a bad moon on the rise."
It was a matter of time before this was highlighted.

I wonder how Cindy McCain's spine is doing these days?

EVERYTHING is political with these hacks, don't kid yourself.  There isn't a politician out there, Obama included, who isn't 'partisan' on at least SOME level.

The difference between Dems and Repubs is that Repubs line up in LOCK STEP with their 'leaders' - DEMS at least attempt to give the illusion of Independence (and therefore chaos).

Keep the body blows coming, all is fair in politics!  As Domenico informed me earlier this year - IT IS A CONTACT SPORT!

(thx for the tip, Domenico!)

Happy Friday folks, I am cutting out early,...to start my weekend sooner than normal,...Carry the torch, friendlies!
At least we are starting to remember some bad events during the past few years: http://www.governmentalityblog.com/my_weblog/2009/06/fuzzy-on-torture.html
SUPPORTING THE TROOPS is a lot like IGNORING THE DEFICIT

Republicans Only do it when a Republican is President

They don't do it when A Democrat is in charge

It's called HYPOCRACY !!

From Washington Monthly:

'...THE AD WRITES ITSELF....

For several years, Democratic opposition to blank-check spending bills for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were the single most popular area of attack for Republicans. To vote against "funding the troops," the GOP said, was to betray the nation and those who wear the uniform. It was the basis for countless speeches, ad campaigns, and attacks.

Whether a lawmaker was fully satisfied with individual provisions in the spending bill was irrelevant -- the troops are fighting wars and they need the money. Excuses won't protect them or give them the resources they need.

In fact, just a year ago, House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) argued, "[T]here is a clear distinction between saying you support the troops and backing up those claims with genuine action. [Obama] once said 'we shouldn't play chicken with our troops' when it comes to funding our troops in harm's way, and [Hillary Clinton] urged General Petraeus at the start of the surge to request 'every possible piece of equipment and resource necessary' to keep our troops safe. These words turned into little more than empty rhetoric when both proceeded to vote against funding our troops last year."

Last week, of course, the situation was reversed, and it was House Republicans "voting against funding our troops." This week, the DCCC is unveiling a series of 60-second radio ads targeting seven vulnerable GOP incumbents on their votes. This one, for example, goes after Rep. Lee Terry (R) of Nebraska.

"Around here, we recognize Independence Day with parades ... and picnics ... maybe a few fireworks.

"But July Fourth is about more than that. It's about remembering those who fought for our freedoms. And those still fighting today.

"Congressman Lee Terry used to understand that. When George Bush asked, Congressman Terry voted to fully fund our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. And, last year he said, quote, 'We must give our military every resource it needs.'

"Seems like Congressman Terry is playing politics now. Last month Congressman Terry voted AGAINST funding for those same troops. It's true: vote number 348 -- you can look it up."

Republicans did make this easy for Dems. Indeed, all the DCCC had to do was pull up the same kind of radio ads Republicans used before and insert GOP names.

As a substantive, policy matter, lawmakers can have completely legitimate reasons for voting against military spending measures, and opposition to these expenditures does not make one an unpatriotic terrorist sympathizer.

But Republicans opened this door. It's hard to blame Democrats for walking through it...'
HERE WE GO AGAIN --- DEMOCRATS USING OUR TROOPS FOR THEIR OWN POLITICAL GAIN --- LIKE PAWNS.

THERE IS "NO LOW" LIMIT WITH DEMOCRATS!
Who's supporting the troops. Apparently not Obama. You'd think the troops and the war would come up during his press conference the other day, but no, that didn't happen. Most people in the country don't even know the troops are in the middle east anymore. See any stories lately about the troops progress, victories, defeats? None. That's because they aren't doing anything, other then being "deployed".
What was the level of pork in the last bill to pay for the wars, something like 30%. Bush had clean bills come though for war funding. Obama, not so much.
GOP: The party of NO to EVERYTHING!!

An immature bunch of selfish angry bad-losers!!!

OBAMA'S HEALTHCARE FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS? (Sent Friday, June 26, 2009 10:20 AM)

Hey Mister All Caps Guy…

Here’s some friendly advice…. LOUD DOESN’T MAKE YOU RIGHT!
>>>It continues, "Seems like Congressman Terry is playing politics now. Last month Congressman Terry voted AGAINST funding for those same troops... It’s a shame. Call Lee Terry. Ask him why he voted against our troops. Ask him: What changed?"
==========
Easy answer: "I WANT OBAMA TO FAIL"

http://jawillie.blog.com
You know the primary problem I have with the Republican party is hyprocrisy:

Whey THEY are in power, we are all supposed to pipe down, fall in line, and support the President.

When THEY are not in power, the talk moves to seccession, armed revolution, the President is making the country "less safe", the President's statements are too "passive", the President is a communist, a socialist, an apologizer.

I think the word I am lookin for is TREASON.

Yep that's it.
----------------------------------------------
From previous post:

To OBAMA'S HEALTHCARE FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS?:

Riddle me this:

Is it your position that if someone is in this country illegally, and they get sick, we should just let them die because their paperwork isn't in order?

Really?

Here's an idea . . . when a person who is here illegally gets sick . . . once they are feeling better  . . . they can work to pay off their bills . . . just like the rest of us do . . . or we can just send them back home and call it even . . . but whining about it and letting them die?

Not an option.

P.S. Why are people in other countries far away who need help glorified, but our neighbors to the south villified?
It is so fun to watch the Democrats take the spin and lies the GOP has used and turn it right back around on them.

Politics is just so dirty! It would be so much more reasonable to stick to real facts and talk about differences of opinion about how to go about things. But then that would kill most of the political machines of both parties.

It is interesting that many people think this is a recent phenomenon. The tradition of dirty politics goes all the way back to Jefferson and Adams!
House Republicans -- including GOP Reps. Ken Calvert (CA), Charlie Dent (PA), and Lee Terry (NE) -- for voting against the recent war supplemental bill.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ummmm... just asking... but in Republicant speak, doesn't that make them 'unAmerican'?
It breaks my heart that our troops are still there... we must get them home safely & sooner rather than later!
No energy tax. You people are killing us with all your frikkin' taxes.
Get Obama out of the White House.
____________
Funny, I haven't got a raise since the election, and yet *my* paycheck is a little bigger than it was six months ago.  No tax hikes in *my* check.  And it is statistically almost impossible that I am the only one.
Obama's not leaving the white house, babe, learn to cope.
Sucks to be you, don't it.
===================================
Glad your paycheck is bigger. When do you find the time to spend the extra $8 you're getting every week? And of course Obama has paid for your little Rockefeller Trust Fund by loading up on he national credit card. So all the children who will be adults tomorrow will be paying for the extra Happy Meal your buying today.
2010 is also heating up in New York, as the GOP has drawn its first gubernatorial candidate (and a famous one at that) while a new poll finds David Paterson and Kirsten Gillibrand are in trouble: http://campaigndiaries.com/2009/06/25/lazio-fully-intends-to-run/
It's the earmarks, stupid.  Okay, not quite as catchy as i't the economy, stupid, but on the mark.  We cannot afford to just keep handing out money.
Anybody see the updated CBO report?
Looks like, thanks to Obama, the CBO has redone the numbers from 3 months ago, which predicted the total debt would be 82% of GDP in 2019, and has a new prediction.
200% of GDP.
Two Hundred Per Cent.
They advise tht now is not the time for new entitlements.  they further advise cutting spending now, rather than when we are in full scale panic mode.
Is anyone listening?
First Read-this was not important enough for you to post on?
Wake up people-Obama is destroying this nation,not because he is evil, but because he lives in an alternate world where reality does not intrude.
I hope wars are getting unpopular. We settle nothing by killing poor people. The perpetrators escape every time.
Obama would have taken a turn in the dunk-tank yesterday, but it would have put out his Marlboro.
It's about time the Republicans(the wing Ding Party of NO) especially GOP Reps. Ken Calvert (CA), Charlie Dent (PA), and Lee Terry (NE)being HYPOCRITES. iF
If they could give a carte blanche to the Bushwhacker to build military complexes in a contrived war, they should want to take care of this country as well. But since they have a reflexive negation action to President If they could give a carte blanche to the bushwhacker to build military complexes in a contrived war, they should want to take care of this country as well. But since they have a reflexive negation action to President Obama they will use any stupid reason to "Just Say No".
Family Values my A**
  And will the radio ads say why these folks voted against the bill?  Of course not!
Isn't it funny how the wheel turns and now it's the repugnant ones who are being bashed for not supporting the troops by voting against the troop funding bill.  I so enjoy the sweet smell of poetic justice early in the morning.
It's about time to withdraw our troops from Iraq as we now see just how ungrateful the Iraqi government is saying that our troops leaving their cities is a victory against the occupation.  It's time to let the Iraqis handle their own security and to stop wasting our taxpayer dollars on that sinkhole of lives and money.  It was totally stupid to have ever gone in in the first place, we were mislead by the lies of Marquis de Sade Cheney who kept bringing back bogus intel to justify the unjustifiable.
It's sad that MSNBC tv is unwatchable this morning as it goes nuts over one story and ignores all the more important stories we really want to see.  Thankfully History International is running the great Battle 360 series about the USS Enterprise.
Bring Our Troops Home Now!
Prosecute War Criminals Bush and Cheney!
I support the President, but not the troops.
You just don't get it, do you?  Republicans really aren't against the troops.  They're just against federal funding for the troops.  Troops, like schools and health care, should be funded locally, through property taxes and bake sales.  Or maybe parents could even provide troops with food, body armor, and other stuff.  Recent experience shows us how well that works out.  And marriage laws should also be local, so that getting legally married in one state doesn't necessarily entitle you to be married if you move, evidently notwithstanding the Full Faith and Credit Clause of the Constitution.  (Article IV, Section 1) --
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Full_Faith_and_Credit_Clause
Now, on the other hand, what we really need is federal legislation to prohibit local governments from enacting legislation to keep assault weapons out of the hands of nutcases and states from enacting pollution controls that are greater than other states.
What?  You still don't get it?  Me, either.
The REPUBS are finally getting their asses handed to them on a silver platter and with "facts" and no rhetoric. Gotta love it!
Smart ad, not nasty just honest.  It's about time the democrats played the republican game of questioning patriotism.  For too long, democrats have been called unpatriotic, unsupportive of our military and I'm glad to see the tables turned.  Democrats supported the troops but they wanted something besides "stay the course" from Bush, the dems put together funding bills with timelines which were vetoed or threatened to be vetoed.  Demanding some resolution to the Iraq war is not unpatriotic, continuing the same failed policies was.  The war was badly mishandled and that was a way of pushing back.  You have to conclude that this was strictly party politics--for the war before they were against it; anything to be against Pres Obama.
What was the level of pork in the last bill to pay for the wars, something like 30%. Bush had clean bills come though for war funding. Obama, not so much. - Ear Marks
The only war spending bills Bush vetoed was when a timeline for US withdrawl was included in the legislation.
If you want to sit there and believe the former President cared about 'clean' war spending bills, I've got some property here in Nebraska with a great view of the Pacific ocean I'd think you would just love.
The Democrats JFK and LBJ sent Americans to die for ungrateful Southeast Asia.
Avoid using all capital letters. The words are more difficult to read. We interpret capital letters as the start of a sentence and mentally pause momentarily while scanning them. This phenomenon causes the mind to read each word rather than the flow of the sentence, slowing comprehension and inducing fatigue in the reader. The end result is that the text is skimmed with very low retention or skipped over entirely.
If it is your intent to be dramatic (the caps as yelling concept), it is much more effective to use caps in small blocks which places emphasis on selected words or phrases.
So, you “All Cap Lovers”, if you would like to have people read /agree/disagree with your posts, PLEASE unlock the caps key, otherwise you will continue to look like that crazy wino down on the corner, wildly waving his arms and babbling loudly about those alien implants, and we will continue to shake our heads and ignore you as we “walk” by.
You are so right.  I saw the National Debt bill come in the mail right before Obama took office and we hade the bill down the last $50 dollars! We only had 1 more payment and the US would have been home free!
Whatever...I love the implied undertone that prior to Obama taking office the US debt was in sometype of managable position and that when my 9 year old son turned 40, it would have all been taken care of!!?!?!
Seems Rep. Ken "Pay-for-Sex" Calvert, who hails from my neck of the woods (The Big OC/Inland Empire, CA) would rather pay a prostitute (remember the 90's) than support OUR troops.  Calvert brings a whole different meaning to: Boots on the ground.  He'd rather slip off this Repugs-loafers and enjoy the Motel scene......
With Sharpton, everything is about race. Why a convicted felon (for a race based crime) gets to speak out about race and admonish white people on a daily basis is a mystery to most people.
Jim Wheaton, Florida
What the hell is he suspose to do? Not exercise his right? People like you really slay me. How can you find fault in what Sharpton does (for some "very" valid reasons) when you overlook Rush Limbaugh?
Shame on you. You have a personal problem with the man. Al Sharpton said nothing on yesterday's interview with Keith Olbermann that was out of line.
As fa as his criminal record goes...It is an ill wind that doesn't change. Since you are a far right winger...get your Bible out and read it. The basis of christanity is conversion...isn't it?
Nashville,
Treating illiegal immigrants with tax payer funds isn't right.  I guess if an illegal immigrant was sick and was taken into the hospital it would be up to the staff whether or not to treat him/her, but to simply take some moral high ground without taking into consideration the social consequences is akin to religious right groups screaming and yelling about abortion being murder without looking at the whole picture.
If it becomes known that illegals can't expect any benefits without providing legitimate proof of citizenship it might not make it so tempting to jump the border without doing the work to become a citizen.
When we first balked about Iraq, we were traitors. Now that we are stuck there, our troops no longer deserve the support of the bums that originally sent them there. Shame, shame, shame...
Sorry, couldn't get the following posted on time this morning.
In my youth, my heroes, Jack, Martin and Bobby, were taken away and my homies, Jimi, Janis and Jim left too soon as well. Death in the sixties was a never ending tale, but the pain will always exist and I'll never get used to it. When it happens too soon the sting lasts forever.
God bless Michael and Farrah. She continues to make my leg tingle and his beat blasts beyond time. What we should take from each is that the overwhelming success and achievement each attained was not a guarantee of happiness.
Thanks for the shout yesterday, Nashville. I'm sorry about my need to occasionally attempt humor and I appreciate everyone's indulgence. An actual compliment is an unexpected bonus. Right back at you, our little _fan for your reinforcement of what Barack has already accomplished.
Have a nice weekend, friends. Even those of you I make cringe with my drivel.
The hypocrisy of the GOP has reached overload. When Dems vote against troop funding, they are un-American and un-patriotic. When the GOP does it, they are standing for their principles. It's the same way with spending - the GOP took us from a $250 billion surplus to a trillion dollar deficit. However, when the Dems have to spend money to get us out of the mess the GOP put the country in, the GOP is all of a sudden concerned about spending.
As far as supporting the troops is concerned, what is it when an administration and a GOP controlled Congress full of chickenhawks wages an unnecessary war and doesn't adequately supply our troops or wage a competent war plan? The fact that these hypocrites can even look themselves in the mirror is a testament to how far this country has fallen in the past decade.
Ear Marks, and others trying to justify this.  You have short term memory loss.  The republicans never put through a clean bill and that includes war funding. Go back and look, there's dollars for plenty of unmilitary pork in the GOP funding bills.  Keep trying to justify garbage if it makes you feel better.
Bad Moon, Dems Using Troops....and any others trying to flip this GOP flip/flop.  You are beyond hope.  It's the republicans that have used our troops as pawns and their failure to vote for funding shows how much they value them.  This was NOT a vote on principle.  The GOP is responsible for a "War of Choice" that has killed thousands of Americans and wounded many thousands more, not to mention the thousands of innocent Iraqi citizens.  The GOP: flip floppers, they were for the war before they were against it but not for concern about the troops, or the budget--but merely because they lost the election and refuse to vote for anything Pres Obama requests.  That is what using our brave, proud military troops as pawns in a political game is and they should be ashamed.
Who's supporting the troops. Apparently not Obama. You'd think the troops and the war would come up during his press conference the other day, but no, that didn't happen.
