*** Sonia’s good news, bad news: Here’s the bad news for Sonia Sotomayor: Yesterday, with the Supreme Court’s New Haven ruling, was her toughest day as a SCOTUS nominee since her "wise Latina" comment produced that political/media frenzy a few weeks ago. But here’s the good news: If yesterday is as bad as it's going to get -- and most expected the Supreme Court to reverse Sotomayor and her 2nd Circuit panel in the New Haven case -- then she's still well on her way to winning confirmation. What’s more, the court’s 5-4 ruling (along the usual conservative/liberal split) gives her 2nd Circuit panel decision plenty of cover. Now, it's all about the confirmation hearing and how the Republicans go after her. But as we learned with John Roberts’ and Samuel Alito’s hearings, it’s more than likely that she’ll say absolutely nothing controversial during these hearings.

Video: Guest host Alison Stewart talks about the case with NPR legal affairs correspondent Nina Totenberg.

*** So apparently there aren’t enough political ads? But while the New Haven case was yesterday’s main focus, the Supreme Court’s other action Monday -- to hear additional oral arguments in Citizens United vs. the Federal Election Commission on Sept. 9 -- could very well have a profound effect on American politics. According to experts, the court’s decision to revisit the case could result in overturning the campaign-finance law that corporations, unions, and other special interests can’t air political ads 30 days before a primary and 60 days before the general election. "This has the potential to be a blockbuster," Michael E. Toner, a former chairman of the FEC, told the Washington Post. He added that the issues have implications for "the whole architecture of the federal campaign financing system." Regarding this action and the New Haven case, talk about the legislating from the bench!

*** Iraq withdrawal: Although it’s been overshadowed largely by other news (Michael Jackson, Bernie Madoff, Iran), today is the deadline for U.S. soldiers to withdraw from Iraqi cities. However, as NBC’s Jim Miklaszewski reports, most of that withdrawal has been completed a day ahead of today’s deadline. Yet the withdrawal also comes as we learned that four U.S. troops died from combat-related injuries. And it also comes with a new CNN poll showing that just 34% approve of the Iraq war, that 73% agree with the decision to withdraw U.S. troops from the major Iraq cities, and that a majority believes the withdrawal will increase the violence in Iraq.

Video: President Obama declares military coup of Honduran president illegal; Ahmadinijad wins Iran vote recount; U.S. troops pull out of Iraq. NBC's Brian Williams reports.

*** Gibbs’ two pledges: Yesterday on MSNBC’s Hardball, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs made two pieces of news. One, regarding Gitmo, he said the Obama administration would absolutely go to Congress first to get approval of holding detainees indefinitely. Two, Gibbs pledged repeal of “Don't Ask, Don't Tell” by the time Obama runs for re-election.

*** Today’s cable catnip: Riddle us this: How is Sarah Palin

going to be able to run for president when so many other Republicans, especially those who worked on the McCain campaign, are more than willing to criticize her? Todd Purdum has a piece in the latest issue of Vanity Fair, in which former McCain campaign aides unload on her -- again. "They can't quite believe that for two frantic months last fall, caught in a Bermuda Triangle of a campaign, they worked their tails off to try to elect as vice president of the United States someone who, by mid-October, they believed for certain was nowhere near ready for the job, and might never be," Purdum writes.

*** Honduras vs. Iran: Here's something you should expect to hear a lot of today: What's the difference between getting involved with the Honduras situation and not with Iran? Of course, there are a lot of differences -- including the entire Organization of American States condemning the coup in Honduras; there wasn't that level of international will on the Iranian situation. Also, we have diplomatic relations with Honduras and therefore have leverage with that country. With Iran, zero relations so little leverage? That said, speaking out against the coup in Honduras as forcefully as the Obama administration has will lead to some on the right to criticize him for not doing the same with Iran.

*** The never-ending recount -- by the numbers: Are we going to get a decision today from the Minnesota Supreme Court regarding the state’s never-ending recount? It’s the last day of the month, and we were led to believe the court would have a decision by then. (Remember that the court heard oral arguments on June 1.) With the race still unresolved, here’s a look at it by the numbers:
-- $51.1 million has been raised between Coleman and Franken for the entire campaign
-- $50.3 million has been spent between the two candidates
-- $11 million (at least) has been spent on the recount
-- 2,424,946 votes were cast
-- 312 votes separate the candidates (Franken leads)
-- 239 days since Election Day 2008
-- 34 weeks since Election Day 2008
-- 7 months, 27 days since Election Day 2008
-- 4 seasons seen since Election Day 2008 election

*** Today’s sked: At 2:00 pm ET, President Obama makes remarks highlighting innovative non-profit programs. Also today, GOP Sens. Mitch McConnell, John McCain, and John Ensign discuss their ideas for health-care reform in Houston, TX at the well-known M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

I read this blog everyday and enjoy.  I have tried many, many times to comment, however, my messages never appear.  I can spell, I think I have rational thought, I think my comments are appropriate to the statements of FR.  Yet, I never get posted.

Is this a private blog?  No newcomers allowed?
Cathy M, Newport, KY
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cathy, nice thing about FR is they welcome everyone don’t get discouraged… if you read daily you’ll notice I try to hold Mark & Domenico’s feet to the fire – as for Chuck T he’s a big shot now… so poor Mark & Domenico are trying to hold it together…
Like they say here in Chicago there are two seasons… winter & construction and I like to think FR is temporarily under construction! Yes I’m l@@king at you two!
Awesome article over on HP by Vanity Fair on the Wasilla Chillbilly!  Most definitely a keeper in case Klondike Barbie ever decides to take another run at POTUS!  She is soooo far out of her league it’s not even funny!
Actually there’s nothing funny about it… anyone care to think where we would be today if McNasty & Mama Grizzly had taken up residence in DC instead of our Prez?  Oy Vay!
Chuck Todd:
Good to see you moderating on Hardball.  I like your conversational style of questioning.  You did not interrupt Gibbs or other guests. No gotcha questions, yet still asked excellent questions.   Actually you look more comfortable in front of the camera than with the press corp.  Move over David Gregory.
Our Troops:
Yesterday Pat addressed the troop pull-back.  The Iraqis are celebrating our withdrawal.  We, here in the US, should also be celebrating that many of the troops are standing-down.   I don’t know why we are not. (celebrating)  Instead we are focused on Sotomayor, gay rights, Sanford.  None of these issues hold a candle to the sacrifices made by our troops.
Sanford:
He says he won’t resign.  Politically speaking that is good for Democrats.  Sanford and Senator Ensign are the new poster boys for the GOP.  I’m hearing the word “women” as it pertains to Sanford.  If this is true, I am thinking of the “I” word.  No, not “infidelity”, though that may apply. “Impeachment” is the other “I” word..  BTW, Ensign should not fall under the radar.  FR what’s up with him?  Pun intended.
So any news on the administration quashing that EPA report that didn't fit their global warming agenda?  Didn't think so.
And I don't see a whole lot of coverage about how the Democrats distributed the final cap and tax bill at 3:00 in the morning with 300 pages worth of new amendments.  Why are they voting on such big pieces of legislation BEFORE reading them?
Climate Change Bill…
What are the benefits of this bill? You say you understand it, so you must know. The costs are well laid out, and they are draconian, but where are the benefits laid out? At what rate will the earth cool because of this bill? Can't answer that question? Why not? That's the entire purpose of the bill, right?
And we're paying for what again?
Pay me now or pay me later:
------------------------------------------------------------
Pay Me Now Or Pay Me Later: Your answer,
This bill is only a stepping stone to the beginning of creating clean energy jobs and we have to start someplace. Of course we will see an increase in energy bills of roughly $25.00 dollars per house whole, but that is far less than the price we “will” pay for using fossil fuel as our primary source of energy. We’ve stymied our energy resources and our countries development potential, all for the sake of wealth and greed.
You say the cost is draconian. When in actuality they are less harsh than what we’ve done to our environment. Evidently you are one of those people that don’t believe that we are experiencing global warming and if you are then I’d like to sample some of what you’ve been taking; better yet I decline, because it has dulled your abilities of sound reasoning.
The less we depend on fossil fuels and foreign oil and start exploring other means of harnessing our natural resources, we will start to see an influx of new educational opportunities for our children in the areas of physics and science, from that new jobs. I don’t have first hand knowledge however, I am not lacking in common sense. I am “hopeful”, for the future of our children and our planet.
We are no longer in the 19th century yet we are still relying on 19th century energy dependency standards and technology, when we are actuality in the 21st century utilizing 21st century technology and energy dependency. Eventually, all nations will share and trade global resources, after all, this is a “global” issue and it will require global efforts to slow down the effects of”global” warming.
This bill is a step in the right direction and will slow down the effects of global warming. We were warned years ago when we tried to save the rain forest, but deception and greed destroyed it. BTW, I made several attempts to answer this on yesterday…
There is always a price to pay when you partake in usage and depletion, as your handle stated...”Pay me now or pay me later”…it appears to be the latter…wouldn’t you agree?
Before you righties start crapping about how "weak" Obama is for withdrawing, keep in mind that this was part of the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) that was signed by Bush.
WOW - Jawillie actually giving Bush credit for something good - this is indeed an new day!!
Maybe there is hope for you yet - or did you say this before you had your daily dose of BoBo Berry Kool-Aid.
BoBo Berry Kool-Aid (thats just funny)
Come on lefties - laugh - its good for your soul!
Stalling Franken looked very expensive...so much for fiscal conservatives.
Sotomayor is like Obama. The more we hear about her, the more incompetent she becomes. Sotomayer is nothing but another AA hire, being picked to fulfill a prearranged outcome rather then being the best and the brightest.
I wonder if our president will get a jump in approval after this Iraqi Withdrawal.  Anyone out there in FR land find any new polls on HCR support??
Pass the public option now!!
Barack Obama: "Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket." (January 2008)
Good morning everyone. May your 4th of July be a day for not only parades and fireworks and baseball games, but also a day of reflection. Please remember always:
To observe good faith and justice toward all nations. Cultivate peace and harmony with all … Experience teaches us that it is much easier to prevent an enemy from posting themselves than it is to dislodge them after they have got possession.
This is your president’s desire, but he will need your help. This is the correct course for the 21st Century. Old way thinking needs to be abolished. There are many progressive hosts and guests on tv this day. Listen to them.
Continue the visions we set out for the United States of America back in the 18th century. Equality and justice for all.
Enjoy your holiday. It is YOUR holiday.
Living here in Vegas, I can tell everyone not alot is being said on the news re Ensign.  Sanford took the focus off of his butt.  How convenient for him!  It really pissed me off yesterday seeing Sanford say "he's human".  Yes, we all are.  Alot of us are not willing to have affairs to satisfy our sexual needs there buddy.  Or alot are not willing to screw up our families by having an affair.  He's getting no sympathy from me.
Barack Obama: "Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket." (January 2008)
Who in the world in explaining the situation to Obama regarding Honduras? Obama "spoke out forcefully" for a dictator and lawless leader! What is Obama thinking? Obama is taking the same side as Chavez and Castro, two other lawless dictators.
The deciding force behind Obama foreign policy appears to be a Magic 8-ball, who I imagine is good friends with Obama's teleprompter.
Now, it's all about the confirmation hearing and how the Republicans go after her. But as we learned with John Roberts’ and Samuel Alito’s hearings, it’s more than likely that she’ll say absolutely nothing controversial during these hearings
It’s also time for the Supreme Court to realize the new test was too premature to announce the ruling they did in the Ricci test. Why do we contine to enable institutional racism?
Bobo, nothing funny about what Bush did in Iraq.   Although that you're apparently not bright enough to realize it is amusing.  What is going to happen in Iraq has been predictable from the beginning:  the ONLY reason a country with the Sunni/Shiia/Kurd composition Iraq has would stay together is with a strongman.  So, within 5 years, we'll be back to having a strongman.  In other words, another Saddam.  And, in the interim, we will have blown close to 5,000 American lives and WELL OVER $1 Trillion.   On what?  A socialist wealth transfer to Halliburton and the Defense Industry.   Perhaps you work for Halliburton or the Defense INdustry.  If not, you may want to schedule a tea party to protest the socialist wealth redistribution that will have happened to your tax dollars.
Isn’t it ironic, that after all that has been sacrificed in Iraq:
– By the U.S. military and their families and by the Iraqi people who both served as  pawns in a high stakes game of chicken between Saddam Hussein and George W. Bush .
- By the American people in energy protesting against the war and energy trying to create the illusion of success in the face of massive casualties in pursuit of an at best unclear goal.
- By the U.S. Treasury in billions of dollars spent monthly on attempting to form a “democracy” that could survive without our guns in Baghdad, lining the pockets of “private contractors” with no bid contracts, and finally paying off former enemies to fight at our side.
- By our children, since we have spent almost a decade inserting ourselves where we were not needed, charging two wars against future generations, while simultaneously neglecting to  invest in education, health care, and the future industries that will decide if America continues to lead the world, or if we join the long list of formerly great empires that collapsed under their own weight.
After giving our EVERYTHING in Iraq, we now find ourselves strangely numb to it all.
Here is hoping that if we agree on nothing else, ALL AMERICANS will MAKE SURE that EVERY SOLDIER returning from Iraq, whether they are mangled physically, emotionally, or both, is treated like the long suffering HERO that they are.
Not the made for TV, flag pin wearing, yellow ribbon tying kind of welcome, but the open doors, open wallets, listening ear, never forget, we-got-your-back FOREVER kind of welcome.
They sure as hell deserve it.
I don't understand the Supreme Court of Minnesota taking so long with the Franken/Colemen decision.  If I were a resident of that state I'd be irate at them for allowing this to go on another month.
When all the Republicans lined up to parrot the talking points about Sotomayor yesterday, I wondered if they realize how they all appear to be programmed.  Wouldn't you think they would have one person designated to be a dissenter on each issue so that they could seem to be thinking independently?
On Troop withdrawal From Iraq:
I would expect an increase in violence, after all the Taliban would prefer that our troops remain in Iraq because they are aware that it continues to deplete our financial resources. After all that was the plan from them in the beginning once our forces were there. The saddest thing is that Cheney-Bush allowed our nation to be duped due to their greed and irresponsibility. The Iraq war was the war of lie and the war of choice.  The victory of America is to withdraw our forces and return our servicemen and women home to their families.
One, regarding Gitmo, he said the Obama administration would absolutely go to Congress first to get approval of holding detainees indefinitely. Two, Gibbs pledged repeal of “Don't Ask, Don't Tell” by the time Obama runs for re-election.
No comment on Gitmo detainees, because the majority of them being innocent of crimes are being released.
On DADT, it will be repealed and that is what's most important. The President did explain that there were a set of complicated laws involved that required close observation...
Anita from Birmingham, that was a well-reasoned response.  Might I suggest that the ONLY thing that will move people opposed to the bill is the national security cudgel?   In other words, screw the rational line of reasoning.    Those who want to oppose this don't believe global warming is real.    The only thing they respond to is a hammer that says: "if you oppose this, you are voting against our national security."   Give 'em some of their own medicine...
Let's hope that today will be the day that the Minnesota Supreme Court affirms that Senator Al Franken won the election and should be seated in the Senate.  After all the money wasted on the appeals it's time for sore loser coleman to concede.
So funny and pathetic how the repugnant ones are trying to make a big deal out of that disgusting bushwhacked packed Supreme Court overturning of Sotomayor's and two other's wise decision.  Not surprising that the sore loser liars are trying some New Math in trying to turn a 5-4 close decision into a 9-0 wipeout.  But who's going to listen to the Drugster Lush Limburger?  Not wise people for sure.
It's a pity that the media went into the tank for the Wicked Witch of Alaska last fall before figuring out that she was totally incompetent.  There isn't enough time for her to ever get smart, she's just incapable of learning new tricks.  Too bad so many deadbeats think she's someone interesting.
Confirm Sotomayor Now!
On Honduras vs. Iran-you have got to be kidding.  To say that the 'world community' was not on board with condemning the Iranian 'non-election' and abuse of protesters is a stretch that even the most ardent Obama worshippers would have trouble making.  Sarkozy, Merkel, Brown-any of those names ring any bells?  They were out in front with strong condemnations.  Of couse, they lead only little countries-France, Germany, England-so of course their words do not matter.
The real difference in Obama's rhetoric this time is that he agrees with Chavez, and the attempt by the deposed president to turn Honduras into another worker's paridise is right up his alley.  Forget the fact that the Honduras Supreme Court ruled that the president was calling for an unconstitutional referendum not once, but twice, and ordered him to stop.  Forget that he was attempting, like Chavez, to give himself lifetime tenure.  Forget that the ELECTED vice president is serving out the term of office, that elections are going ahead as scheduled for the fall, and a new, elected president will be in office in January.  Forget all of that at your peril.
I, for one, can see Obama trying to pull the same thing.  Don't believe me?  Okay, Obama worshippers.  However, I will be storing your responses and playing them back to you when he loses his re election bid, and tries to pull a Chavez in this country.
By the way, Nashville fan-I tried to respond to your response yesterday on the CBO.  You proved my point, although you did not realize it.  The CBO projects where spending and output will take us in a period of time.  If we do not stop this out of control spending, Obama will bankrupt this nation.  If the spending is stopped, of course we will not get to the doomsday scenario so many of you are ignoring.
So with Iran, Obama sits and twiddles his nicotine stained thumbs for weeks until he comes up with a weak response of support for the Iranian citizens. With Honduras, Obama sides with the dictator that was legally removed from office.
Just who's side is Obama on again?
What's the difference between Honduras and Iran?
Iran had an ELECTION, however flawed. The dispute they are having is about the results of that election, and they have processes set up to deal with that internally, however flawed.
Honduras had a military coup. No votes to count, just the guys with guns deciding they wanted a new President.
Big difference, although the police crackdown in Iran led to a similar feel ultimately. The United States has condemned the use of violence to circumvent the established process in both cases.
So the primary difference is just the media spin, as ususal.
Sarah Palin Catnip: No, this woman will never be ready to run for President and I hope she never tries again.
She is very good at wrapping herself up in the American flag, shoot star and strips out of her behind and tatoo snippets of the constitution on her forehead to show how much she loves this country. Sadly, none of these attributes Ms. Palin so willingly demonstrates gives her any credibility to wisely govern this country. She is a walking, talking disaster that is too much of a risk to take.
Common Sense, Thomas Paine Style
So Common Sense (ironic name, isn't it?), you side with dictators, brutal dictators, in the middle east. Those kind of people, those funny skinned colored ones, you're saying they don't deserve freedom?
You'd be great at the UN. Most of the tin-horn countries that show up at the place would be 100% behind your political theory.
So what's your take on Honduras? Do those people also need to led by a strong armed ruler?
You better watch out, you keep talking like you are, you're going to be a lead member on the Obama foreign policy team.
Living here in Vegas, I can tell everyone not alot is being said on the news re Ensign.  Sanford took the focus off of his butt.  How convenient for him!  It really pissed me off yesterday seeing Sanford say "he's human".  Yes, we all are.  Alot of us are not willing to have affairs to satisfy our sexual needs there buddy.  Or alot are not willing to screw up our families by having an affair.
--------------------------------------------------
And yet, Ensign's approval ratings, even after news of the affair broke, still are higher than Harry Reid's in Nevada.
It's time to withdraw all of our troops from Iraq and stop wasting all that money.  Time also to pull out Halliburton, KBR and Blackwater so that they stop wasting taxpayer money for a job poorly done.  We should audit these ripoff companies to see how much taxpayer money they wasted and demand it back.
Not too surprising that the bleeding heart conservative activist judges on the SC want to give corporations their wish to have unlimited campaign contributions.  We need a lot less corporate money in politics as they just buy politicians to do their bidding at the expense of all us regular Americans.  This proves that Sotomayor is needed on the SC as soon as possible so that the repugnant ones don't pass this through a shorthanded session.
It sounds like the coup in Honduras is a fait accompli and there's little that can be done to overturn the results.  The clown deserved getting thrown out because he wanted to overturn the term limit, just like that tyrant Bloomberg did recently and Hugo Chavez did earlier.  All three are just power mad tyrants who want to rule forever.
Bring Our Troops Home Now from Iraq!
I find it comical that so many "commentators" are crediting President Bush with establishing the withdrawal date in the Status of Forces Agreement when he was basically dragged kicking and screaming into signing it after the Iraqi government sided with then candidate Obama about the timeline to withdraw from Iraq.
The Bush Administration put out a story about the Iraqi Prime Minister being "mistranslated" and started using the phrase "time horizon" to get around the fact that they were agreeing to candidate Obama's deadline date after spending YEARS saying that would be a sign of weakness.
Uh huh.
Revisionist history is rising to the level of sport these days . . . there should be some type of prize.
Seriously.
Beverly.  They had an independent analysis of the test BEFORE it was administered.  Parties representing all races deemed it fair.  Why are you still carping that it was somehow unfair?
Let Honduras decide their own fate. The Republicans should really be quietly pleased as he was turning into another Chavez. The man was trying to ignore the will of the their Supreme Court, majority of their congress and the military to to subvert their constitution which allows one term only. It's bad enough that the Shrub was ignoring our backyard for his neo con/Halliburtin war for profit and basically sitting back and watching authoritarian/leftist governments taking over as it had succeeded in Venezuela,Ecuador and Nicaragua to allow them to run indefinitly w/ no term limits.
Its astounding to me that it took the McCain campaign about two months to know that Sarah Palin was not a suitable candidate for VP.  As soon as she opened her mouth it was evident she was going to crash and burn. Which tells me as has been said before, she was not properly vetted.
There is seldom a day goes by that I am so thankful the voters are smarter than the GeeNoPers and elected the right person for the job.  Sure she has her supporters but there just like her, no substance only can criticize for the sake of criticism there is no sense of helping the country in any of them.
Reading this mornings papers on the withdrawal of our troops from Iraq, one is left with the feeling of what a waste it was, of our precious troops, the billions of dollars and the intangibles of loss of prestige and how the world now looks at us.
George Bush, Dick Cheney and those hundreds who enabled you to ruin our country and our once good name,  how so you sleep at night???
Put me in the "thumbs up" column for Chuck Todd sitting in for Chris Matthews. It was a very interesting program last night. I'm not a fan of any of the Politico journalists at all, but still it was a good program. Also, I enjoy Chris Matthews' Sunday program as well.
So happy to hear Keith's ratings are doing well. He is such an important voice in this critical time as we make our way past the last 8 years.
The Iraqis are celebrating our withdrawal we should rightly be to; with the exception of War profiteers and criminals like Cheney. Too bad it's time to realize heartless the real people who were sacrificed in Iraq is you. You lied and killed thousands of people, maimed many people and you are going to jail so where do the line.
I can't get over how you let derelict Haliburton mercenaries knowingly electrocute our soldiers.  Talk about Sacrifice now. Heartless, criminal Cheney it's time for to stop defending the sacrifice you'll lose in profit due to our withdrawal.
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows that 31% of the nation's voters now Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Thirty-three percent (33%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -2. That matches the lowest level yet recorded
Or capitalism is fine, if you work hard to make a living, like being independent from government social programs, or if you enjoy showing people that America is opportunity based, based on how hard and smart you work vs. being outcome based like our Affirmitive Action laws require.
But your mileage may vary, and it appears it has for you.
While one of Gibbs's pledges sounds good in that President Obama will seek approval from Congress for indefinite detentions but the other that gays might have to wait for almost three more years before we see the end of Don't Ask Don't Tell isn't going to fly.  President Obama needs to get rid of DADT now so that we stop losing good soldiers and stop wasting taxpayer money training them before ditching them.
It's time for Eric Holder to drag NonCensus Bachmann into court and charge her with obstructing the upcoming census.  Her clueless ranting about this census is just more pathetic drivel from a deranged housewife who should never be allowed to leave the house.  Bachmann Moron Overdrive belongs in a mental institution and not in the House, well maybe she's auditioing for a career at fox and freaks, the tv reality show of a mental institution.
I see the schedule shows that the Three Stooges, McCain, McConnell and Ensign, are going to discuss health care reform.  Yeah real bright to bring on Adulterer Ensign so soon after his nefarious affair has come to light.  Just much ado about nothing here as these three stooges will just regurgitate the same old song and dance about maintaining the stangnant quo of allowing the AMA to bankrupt America.
Not to worry…I LAUGH at your asinine comments EVERY single day! Keep up the good work!
Thanks Red...
What, no name calling from you - I'm disappointed - I feel left out???
Chuck, great job filling in for Chris.  Is President Obama 'hedging' DADT for the mid terms?  Is he concerned about 'leading' and losing support?  Still a wimpish position; but I love that you asked Gibbs the tough stuff.
Cable Catnip is exactly what many of us have been saying for over 8 months now.  There was always something cynical and disingenuous about the Republican VP pick.  Looking back, McCain's entire campaign was mismanaged.  If he had not been 'handled' so much, he wouldn't have lost the center.  That joke about suspending his campaign and his VP pick winking through her interview - seriously?  I am not an Independent; but will someone who is 'nad up and admit that was where McCain lost?
---------
I loved watching Sandra Day O'Connor this morning.  She is absolutely right that our court clearly is not 'representational'.  I am glad she is disappointed that she wasn't replaced by a woman.  I am a little surprised that she thought 'W' would be more 'progressive' in that regard.  I don't personally think Sotomayor will have too much difficulty with her confirmation.  The party of "NO" intends to make it awkward and uncomfortable for her; but what else have we come to expect?
Nardi,
Get a grip - I'm not here to 'please' you and quite frankly - I hope I will always disappoint your ilk.
Uh, Mr. Holmes, when did military coups become legal?
The Honduran Military - Giving Banana Republics A Bad Name!!
When the Supreme Court of Honduras ruled their current president unfit for office and ordered that he had to be forcefully removed from office. Think of it kind of like what our government did at Waco a dozen or so years ago. That was legal.
Have you even read about what is happening in Honduras? It doesn't look as if you have.
Out of Iraq = a big-eared rush to judgement.
Darth Vader is the good guy in this sequence.
