MN Supreme Court: Franken won

Is the never-ending recount in Minnesota over? It very well might be.

Moments ago, the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled unanimously that Al Franken beat Norm Coleman in that contested race. "[W]e affirm the decision of the trial court that Al Franken received the highest number of votes legally cast and is entitled under Minn.
32 Stat. § 204C.40 (2008) to receive the certificate of election as United States Senator from the State of Minnesota."

Video: The Minnesota Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered that Democrat Al Franken be certified as the winner of the state's long-running Senate race.

That would give Democrats their filibuster-proof 60 votes in the Senate (although getting ill Democrats like Ted Kennedy and Robert Byrd to vote on legislation will be a challenge).

There are two things to watch. One, will Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) certify Franken the winner? Pawlenty has said he'll do so if the Minnesota Supreme Court orders him. (Question: Is the court saying Franken is "entitled" an order?) Two, will Coleman take his appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court?

By the way, Franken is holding a press conference at 5:15 pm ET.

Good, now that that's over, can Obama please tell me where all the jobs are???  I need a job NOW.
Oh good! There just were not enough clowns already in the Senate.
Another amazingjob by ACORN to steal yet another election. Congrats ACORN, you're doing your duty for the American people.
This changes the political landscape and the minds of Nutty Right Wing Dings who wasted campaign money to go against the will of people who voted for change. The next thing that needs to happen is some Democrats need to have a spinal transplant. 60 votes are needed to continue change America asked for at the polls.
The folks in Minnesota must be so glad to have this over--if in fact it is over.  If I were Gov. Pawlenty, I would give Al Franken the certificate he requires.  If he aspires to national office, he will have to attact some Democrat voters and alienating them by not issuing the certificate in the face of a Supreme Court ruling doesn't make sense and couldn't be sold as putting the people first.
By the way--I haven't understood why Franken is criticized for having been a comedian--isn't a lot of politics really comedic--like Gov. Sanford!

The earliest that Franken can be seated is next week. Sweet victory! Seat Franken NOW!!  No more stalling for the G –NO- P.  The only thing that’s wise is time and man doesn’t control wisdom. Forget Pawlenty if he attempts to not sign off on the certification. Seat Franken and end this BS stalling by the GOP.

Your fear, envy, and anxiety are showing.  For additional entertainment, a challenge to you for a comparative posting of photographs of Governor Palin, Feisty, Anita, and the FR ilk.  Let's see who is really uggggly, physically and intellectually.
Very Independent, Springfield,

Very Independent:

I would be MORE than happy to rise to the occasion then perhaps you will see that Palin is the REAL loser! LOL!  LOOKS have nothing to do with my distaste with her. Hell I am 9 years older and “look “35 an older babe, smart as hell too…I can communicate with people from the White House to the shit house…in other words I got it straight and know it. “A youthful appearance is a blessing from the Lord” and I am truly blessed.  Lol!!

Palin and Todd pimped their family and they are still pimping them; she and her dusty dingy husband. Maybe that works in Alaska, but it certainly doesn’t work down here in the “lower” forty-eights and the last election proved that. Take a Xanax and chill.

Seat Franken NOW!!
Coleman will probably have the republican financial backing to drag this to the US Supreme court knowing that they just started their summer break and wont be working again til the fall.  If he tries it maybe its time for Democrats to get tough, this has gone on way too long.  Any way Congratulations to Al Franken, the junior senator from Minnesota!
Lets see, the list of bozos in the Senate just went up by one. Franken, The Swimmer, JFK, Schumer, those two goofs from California, those two goofs from Illinois, those two goofs from Michigan. All led by ring-master Harry Reid.

Gonna need another ring to this three ring circus.
Outstanding! Finnaly Minnesota will have it's two Senators, and Coleman can head off into the sunset, and his legal troubles.
It's time to let the 'Healing Process' begin

Will 'Stormin' Norman' concede ??

He's got to get ready for his bribery trials
Norm Coleman has been getting 'free' rent and 'free' clothes from the Special Interests

America, Land of the 'Free' !!!
That would give Democrats their filibuster-proof 60 votes in the Senate (although getting ill Democrats like Ted Kennedy and Robert Byrd to vote on legislation will be a challenge).

Getting Kennedy to realize where he is will be a challenge

Getting Byrd away from his KKK rallies will also be a challenge.  Hey Byrd - how long does it take to iron the point in your hat?

Hopefully they can now pass there energy tax.
Because Depression is good - right?
Pawlenty is too scared to sign the cert because he wants to win the GOP nom for 2012
Congratulations, Senator Franken.  Big ups to the Dems and their 60 seat Senate majority.

Now pass health care and the energy bill, overturn DOMA and DADT, and prosecute Cheney/Bush for war crimes.  Thank you.

My guess, he won't certify.  The party would eat him alive.  I am actually feeling sorry for Mary Bono, for once, she actually voted to help our area (we are getting part of a massive solar project, jobs!) and the opinion section which just a few months ago was saying what a great job Mary has done are now calling for her to change parties.  Calling her a Rino even though she has always voted exactly how the party told her to with the exception of this one vote.
One more chance Norm...go to the SCOTUS and see if they will do a 'bush' for you and overturn the election results. Hey it worked for me in 2000 man.
It's funny that the coal burning, cold winter midwest are loaded with liberal Democratic Senators. The same Senators that will vote for cap and trade that will increase the costs of the mid-west people's energy by at least 3 times the current rates.

Be sure to stay warm mid-westernites. Winters coming. Better put up a windmill to generate some heat.
Think about it!  The US Supreme Court is now on summer vacation.  If Coleman does appeal the the US Supreme Court, that would prolong the wait until the fall. Pawlenty will be under pressure to certify Franken as the winner.  Biden will swear Al in as Senator as early as tomorrow.

Congratulations Senator Franken!!
Finally:

Harry Reid has already stated it won't happen before Monday.

I am going to channel my best Nashiville_Fan and respond to the twerp that has no courage to use an actual name.  I notice FR took down your posts from earlier this morning, Nardi.  I get that your side is frustrated after a string of stunning defeats AND immoral behavior.  I realize you would like to make the posting on this blog about me.  Why don’t you focus your energy on substantive policy issues?  What has become obvious to those of us who’ve been on this blog a long time is that when the ‘rabid right’ get trounced, time and again – they turn their wrath toward other individuals.  They know they can’t win an intellectual debate; they simply aren’t equipped for the battle.  So they attempt to make their entire case about how wrong or evil an opponent is.  I am sure you were the ‘king’ of the school yard bullies; but seriously, the rest of us grew up and left the playground.  So pick up your boxing gloves and go home, you look ridiculous.

I am looking at “you”:

Tim Stocken,

Thanks for the affirmation!  It does make you wonder.
Air America now has their very own in the US Senate. First it was MSNBC that imported both the AA jocks (and apparently also their ratings too), now the Senate has it's very own left loon. And not just any left loon, but the loonyist of the bunch, Big Al!
Great news, Senator Franken, may your service be equal to the effort to get there.

I was too late to get the following posted, so please indulge me.

According to the republican Party, you can only commit adultery if you are a member of the "Godless" Democratic Party. If you hold "Christian values," your sins will immediately be forgiven, no matter who or how you have cheated.

As for military service, any connection to the aforementioned "Godless" party counteracts any awards of valor that were earned, according to the law of the "Swiftboaters." Multiple Purple Hearts, a Silver Star and a Bronze Star don't count because when you came home, you ratted out the handful of crazies (I'd say the forebearers of present day neocons, but all of them were draft dodgers) who embarrassed this great country by killing women and children in Viet Nam.

Where is the left wing media while all of these injustices occur? Silent? Hiding? Non-existent? Or just conveniently ignored?

You question the intelligence of President Obama, yet you praise the common sense of the multi-school college education Palin has patch-worked together. Obama uses a teleprompter - BAD. Palin can't name her reading material - GOOD.

Your god, limprod blames the high cost of health care of physical fitness freaks. He somehow blames the affair of Mark Sanford on President Obama. Does anyone see a pattern, here? Every action of our CIC is questioned - to the point of undermining his authority, putting his life in danger and tarnishing his international image, things that would not be allowed against a sitting republican President. On top of this, you traitors will not be happy until another attack on our country can justify your actions.

Shame on you... You deserve Sarah Palin as your standard bearing in 2012. I would compare her to Barry Goldwater, but he was an honorable man.
Maybe now Stuart Smalley can pay his personal back taxes. Not paying their taxes seems to be a real theme with the Democrats this year.
Happy Days Are Here Again!  Yippee we now have 60 seats in the Senate as the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled 5-0 that Senator Al Franken won the election and recount.  I sure can't wait for Senator Al Franken to get seated next week.  Ha Ha we who laugh last laugh best.  Sore loser coleman had better go out and get a real job now.  Oh and thanks for that almost $95,000 the sore loser had to pay for Senator Al's legal expenses.

I'm double laughing that Adulterer Sanford now has revealed that he's had more than one mistress, another 6 more.  Seems he's got the 7 dwarfs story confused and thought he should have 7 mistresses.  Plus it's so funny that he said he crossed the line with the other 6 but didn't have sex.  Ahh shades of Bill Clinton from a repugnant one who blasted Bill for his fooling around with Monica.  I guess now we'll hear Adulterer Sanford say that it all depends on what the definition of "Sex" is.  The more he talks the more he sticks his foot in his mouth.

We should give Mark Murray kudos today as it looks like he's flying solo here at First Read today.  I looked over all the articles posted and Mark has been a busy bee posting them all.  Plus he's getting some face time on MSNBC tv giving us updates on Adulterer Sanford's shameful confessions and Senator Al Franken's confirmed victory.

In Mark Murray We Trust!
In Senator Al Franken We Trust!
OMG---Pawlenty, certify Franken!  Minnesota needs their second Senator.

The Repukes are the ones who feel entitled!...and will only accept what THEY want, it's their way, or the highway.....

If Coleman takes this matter to the USSC, those sitting Bushies will overturn any ruling in Frankens' favor.

Coleman--YOU LOST!
Congratulations Senator Frankin, good things are worth waiting for. Now get down to business and do a good job representing the people of Minnesota.
I didn't think the Democrats could get anyone more stupid in the Senate after they brought in Burris from Illinois.

Apparently I was wrong.
The court did not explicitly order Governor Pawlenty to sign the certificate.  All the court said was that Senator-elect Franken was entitled to the certificate.

...so, Governor Pawlenty still has it within his power to hold the party line and block Senator-elect Franken's seating in the Senate.

...and, of course, Norm Coleman can always file a challenge in Federal court.  Is the GOP, the party of states rights, going to take a state election matter to federal courts?

Thanks, Norm...every circus needs a clown!
It's time for Senator Franken to be seated.  How many times does Coleman need to be told he lost.
Democrats will be down to 58 soon enough. The Byrd man and Kennedy will be "resigning" soon enough.
YESSSSS  It's about time!  1 Million dollars and Paw Paw still couldn't buy the seat!

Congrats Senator Franken!

He's good enough, he's smart enough, and, doggone it, the voters of Minnesota and the Minnesota Supreme Court like him!

(Had to see THAT one coming!)
you know if we repealed the 17th amendment we would never have these problems.  and states would be represented properly in the senate.  franken is smart enough to debate politics, but how will he survive when his party begins to ask him to comprmise his principles to get legislation through...is he going to have guts now that more than ratings and books sales are at stake? only time will tell i suppose.  in any case congrats al franken.  i'm glad its over.
