First thoughts: The meaning of 60

*** The meaning of 60: It lasted 238 days beyond Election Day and eventually entered all four seasons, but the never-ending Minnesota Senate race finally came to a conclusion yesterday, after the state Supreme Court unanimously ruled in Al Franken's favor and after Norm Coleman conceded hours later. Most significantly, yesterday’s developments resulted in Democrats obtaining a filibuster-proof majority -- 60 votes -- in the Senate, and Dems want to have him seated by as early as Monday. Having 60 votes will shift the balance of power from the Republican Maine-iacs (Collins and Snowe) to the Joe Liebermans, Ben Nelsons, and Mary Landrieus, meaning that the upcoming fights over health care and energy will be on Democratic turf. Remember that stimulus debate back in February? Does anyone doubt it would have been different (in size and composition) had Franken been in the Senate then? As Rahm Emanuel told the New Yorker then, “No disrespect to Paul Krugman [who wanted a larger bill], but has he figured out how to seat the Minnesota senator?”

*** The Democrats’ challenges: Indeed, had Franken been in the Senate then, you could have probably added some $30-$50 billion to the size of the $787 billion stimulus; that was the cost of getting one more GOP vote, Susan Collins. But Democrats jumping for joy right now might want to temper their enthusiasm a bit. For one thing, conservative/moderate Democrats haven’t always been easy votes to get. In fact, in the health-care debate, Dem senators like Max Baucus and Kent Conrad have been cool towards a public/government insurance option. Second, given the health problems of reliable Democratic votes like Ted Kennedy and Robert Byrd, it will be a challenge for Democrats to make sure they have 60 votes at a particular time. Yesterday's Franken news ironically coincided with Byrd’s release from the hospital, and it’s been more than a year since all 100 senators voted on a bill. So forget Harry Reid; getting to 60 is the hands of medical professionals, not political ones.

*** So what do Republicans do? Their initial spin is, “OK, no excuse time. Democrats have it all -- the House, the White House, and a filibuster-proof Senate.” It's almost as if Republicans want to start their "change" campaign now. And that's what will be interesting to watch: Will they completely wash their hands of governing, and simply sit back like a columnist or talk radio host and just criticize, er, campaign? They can't obstruct on a party line vote, but they can rant. But can the Republicans keep this up for over a year and just sit by as a group, or do a handful of them (the Maine-iacs, Voinovich, Mel Martinez, Lugar, maybe Grassley) start going their own way and possibly work with the White House?

*** Other odds and ends: This is now the first time since the 95th Congress (1977-1979) that one party will have had 60 or more votes in the Senate; Democrats had 61 at the start of that Congress. Also, this wasn’t the longest contested election. Per NBC’s Marcie Rickun, the Senate Historical Office says the 1974 Wyman-Durkin race went through several stages of recount battles before the Senate finally declared the seat vacant at the end of July, 1975. Then, a new election was called, which took place on September 16, 1975. And there was an even LONGER Senate vacancy in Illinois in the 1920s... Finally, what does the future hold for Norm Coleman? Will he run for governor in 2010? Remember that Coleman lost statewide to a wrestler (Jesse Ventura) and a comedian (Al Franken), and probably wouldn’t have won the lone race he did win without a death (Paul Wellstone’s), though in that race he did beat a former vice president (Walter Mondale). Coleman's concession speech had "I'm running for office again soon" written all over it. The Republicans need a strong candidate for governor thanks to Tim Pawlenty's retirement, and because Coleman stayed and fight, he probably can raise a decent chunk of change nationally.

*** Chuck Schumer’s legacy: One other thing worth pointing out in the Franken-Coleman news: In his two cycles as chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Democrats were able to pick up a whopping 14 Senate seats (six in ’06 and eight in ’08). And when you add Arlen Specter’s switch earlier this year, that means that Democrats went from having just 45 senators in 2006 to 60 today. That’s a remarkable two cycles.

*** Back to health care: Turning to an issue that Democrats hope Franken’s Senate vote will help them with -- health care -- President Obama holds an online town hall on the subject in Annandale, VA at 1:15 pm ET. Per the White House, questions will come from a live audience, as well as online communities like Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter. Valerie Jarrett will moderate the forum. By the way, don't think it went unnoticed that in the president's congratulatory statement and Franken's victory statement last night, both mentioned energy and health care. Coordinate much?

*** Where in the world is … Manuel Zelaya? Ousted Honduran president Manuel Zelaya traveled to Washington, DC, late yesterday, according to multiple sources. He was in New York earlier yesterday to meet with the United Nations. It's not clear where or who the ousted president met with in Washington last night. But it was made clear to us this morning that Zelaya has since left both Washington and the country. We're efforting more details.

*** Cable catnip, part 2: We knew that Todd Purdum’s critical profile of Sarah Palin would get lots of attention. What we didn’t know was that it would immediatley start a public war between Bill Kristol/Randy Scheunemann and Steve Schmidt. As Politico’s Martin writes, “William Kristol … touched off the latest back-and-forth Tuesday morning with a post on his magazine’s blog … pointing a finger at Steve Schmidt, McCain’s campaign manager. Kristol cited a passage in Purdum’s piece in which ‘some top aides’ were said to worry about the Alaska governor’s ‘mental state’ and the prospect that the Alaska governor may be suffering from post-partum depression following the birth of her son Trig. ‘In fact, one aide who raised this possibility in the course of trashing Palin’s mental state to others in the McCain-Palin campaign was Steve Schmidt,’ Kristol wrote. Asked about the accusation, Schmidt fired back in an email: ‘I'm sure John McCain would be president today if only Bill Kristol had been in charge of the campaign. After all, his management of [former Vice President] Dan Quayle’s public image as his chief of staff is still something that takes your breath away,’ Schmidt continued.” Folks, be sure to read the whole piece; it only gets better…

*** The Sanford story gets weirder: Finally, as he’s trying to save his job -- not to mention his marriage -- what was South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford thinking when told the AP yesterday that he had “crossed the lines” with other women besides his Argentine mistress? “‘Without wandering into that field we'll just say that I let my guard down in all senses of the word without ever crossing the line that I crossed with this situation,’ he said, referring to his affair with Chapur.” This guy is letting his mid-life crisis play out in public. Meanwhile, the Washington Post chooses to "go there" in a piece about Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer, the once and future governor, delving into the rumors about him.

Leftovers & Take Out…

"This was a whole lot more than a simple affair, this was a love story," Sanford said. "A forbidden one, a tragic one, but a love story at the end of the day."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey Scumbag err I mean Sanford...LOVE means NEVER having to say you're sorry! Boo freakin Hoo!  Wonder how your wife feels hearing you say that? Talk about rubbing her nose in it!  If he were my husband – he’d be singing soprano by now!
Dereliction of duties = good people of SC… toss this trash to the curb! Personally I think the guy is this close to a total mental breakdown!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I am looking at “you”:

Radical Prez (Sent Tuesday, June 30, 2009 1:49 PM), Radical Prez (Sent Tuesday, June 30, 2009 1:56 PM), Big Nardi (Sent Tuesday, June 30, 2009 10:01 AM)

Not to give this clown any more credibility (yeah I’m talkin to you Chihuahua!) But anytime you have to use the prefix BIG… it without a doubt is to compensate for lacking size in certain areas of the male anatomy!  Right ‘Big Al the Chicago Way’?

And thanks to Mark for removing his trash from the board!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your fear, envy, and anxiety are showing.  For additional entertainment, a challenge to you for a comparative posting of photographs of Governor Palin, Feisty, Anita, and the FR ilk.  Let's see who is really uggggly, physically and intellectually.
Very Independent, Springfield,
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

And then this one… I wasn’t going to even bother to validate this clown…however I’m sick & tired of the obsession around here (you perv’s know who you are) that Democratic/Liberal woman are not good looking!  Keep on mind Klondike Barbie had a 15K a month make up artist trailing her every move!!!  Now that she’s back to shopping for Cover Girl at the Wasilla Wal-Mart – eh… not looking so good!

When I was younger I did modeling work (Trade Shows for Hair & Makeup runway & some print work for hairstyling magazines) so I would hardly call me uggggly as you suggest!

Having said that they say 50 is the NEW 30 & I for one CAN’T wait!  My grown daughter & I are often mistaken for sisters – and she couldn’t be prouder of her ‘old’ mom!

Regardless of any ones looks… beauty comes from within and is an attribute the Wasilla Chillbilly will NEVER possess!  She’s 100% UGLY thru & thru!  ;0)    ;0)  But then again I can picture you sitting in your basement with your ‘comb over’ & plumbers crack judging people by the way they look! Yeah a real keyboard warrior you are!

I’m waiting for her to go after Vanity Fair now & use her kids once again!   She does put the ‘V’ in vindictive!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And Nash… thanks for the shout out yesterday – coming from you it meant a lot!  I’m just sooo tired of the party of ME and (their BFF’s) Myself & I antics!  All the spinning is making me dizzy!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Totally agree with Ed Schultz… what is it with Lush Limpballs fixation with rape?  He is even sicker than I originally gave him credit for!!!

Finally – did get to catch you Chuck on Hardball last night!  Nice Job!  You looked a lot more at home than when you’re sitting at the ‘round table’ with gotcha Gregory! IMHO
So we made it to the 1st of July, ready for the big holiday weekend.  Do refer to the day as Independence Day or simply the 4th of July?

My good friend down in San Diego decorates his house each 4th of July with over a 1000 flags and other patriotic items.  Maybe you saw it on the news last year; he was even on Countdown.  Do you decorate your house for the 4th of July?

Are you like me and consider all people patriotic if they vote, are good citizens, etc., no matter what political party they vote?  I don’t think either party has sole claim to being the most patriotic.

I often reflect back to how I felt serving in the Navy during this holiday period.  There I was many thousand of miles from home, on a multi-million or billion dollar piece of warship with a U.S. flag waving in the breeze, wondering if we were making any difference in the world.  To my fellow shipmates and brothers-in-arms around the world today serving our country, you do make a difference.  You should also know our new President is making your job easier.  He has brought back our good name.
Mark was a John

Sanford said he crossed over the line with other women.  Listening closely to Mark’s comments it sounds like was seeing prostitutes.  That did not serve Elliot Spitzer very well either!  Then Mark talks about this soul mate thing and his soul mate was not his wife.  Don’t expect a reconciliation in that marriage!   It is apparent Mark wants the Mrs  to file for a divorce and for now she will let him…dangle in the wind.

60 Nope - More like 57

Congratulations to Senator Al Franken, but the Democrats still haven’t reached the Promised Land.  Even if they bring Byrd and Kennedy in on a gurney, they will likely be 3 votes short of the magic 60.  Those Blue Dog Democrats will actually have more leverage.  David Plouffe, White House, and Move-On: Are you listening?  It is time to make some ads directed at one of my Senators, Evan Bayh.  He is not for public health care.

Keith Olbermann: You’re Politically Smarter than that!

Last night Olbermann suggested that Obama was stonewalling “Don’t ask; Don’t tell.  Obama and Gibbs have been telegraphing their position for months.  Gibbs said it will happen later, before the end of Obama’s first term.  Obama said be patient.  Our President has set a higher priority on healthcare and energy and he doesn’t want to spend his capital on DADT.  Obama knows with only 57 senators whom he can count on, he has to be pragmatic.

BTW:  Yesterday Bosox blew a 9 run lead.  How did that happen?
By 1779, there were more Americans fighting with the British than with Washington. There were no less than 21 regiments (estimated to total 6,500 to 8,000 men) of loyalists in the British army. Washington reported a field army of 3,468. About a third of Americans opposed the Revolution.
                   *********************
“It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds … If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”

What can the American Revolution teach us? That numbers alone do not matter. Progress depends solely on the few who are willing to fight for change and fight for progress. It takes guts and determination. And for those who possess such qualities, listen to them. For it is they who understand the Constitution as written. We are more than New Englanders, Virginians, New Yorkers. We are Americans. Geography does not matter. Religion does not matter. Class does not matter.

Enjoy your 4th. Celebrate all the freedoms and liberties you have. The freedoms every single human being deserves. And may you always find the time and passion to speak for those not so fortunate. Fight for them. Equality for ALL, whether it be healthcare, DADT, discrimination, gay marriage, and always always better education - better schools. A child’s education must never be compromised. To ensure progress, one must never stand still. One must fight for change. It takes only a few to make a difference. Keith knows this, Ed knows this, Rachel knows this.

As your president has said repeatedly, this is YOUR moment. Have a safe & celebratory 4th.
Minnesota - you've been put on notice. When you elected a pro wrestler as governor, that was your problem. Everyone laughed at you, but it was only you that had to put up with that nitwit. You realized the error of your ways and you sent Jesse packing. Now you've done yourself one better, you've elected a total moron to the US Senate. This action affects the entire country. So now your little joke may cost the nation trillions with government takeovers of health care and energy and amnesty to illegal immigrants. We're thinking of tossing you out of the union Minnesota. Consider this your probationary period. Either straighten up, or we'll sell you to Canada.
Clearly the only person that Governor Sanford loves more than his beloved Maria is himself.

Despite his romanticized ramblings about "forbidden love", the simple truth is that his love of Maria is not forbidden. If he wants to be with her nobody is stopping him . . . so how about he man up, shut up, and handle his business.

South Carolina has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country . . . and they have a lovestruck Governor rambling about "redemption" while simultaneously trying to block federal assistance for the unemployed.

Can you say cuckoo for cocoa puffs?

I knew you could.

P.S. Thanks for the shout out yesterday Clara . . . you don't have to channel me girl, you are super smart and always on point!
How will Obama pay for this health care plan? How? Tax the rich? That ain’t going to happen. Tax the middle class? Obama promised he would not do that.

Obama Lie #1- Obama said his tax plan would reduce taxes for 95 percent of working families. "If you are a family making less than $250,000 a year, you will not see your taxes go up," Obama said repeatedly on the campaign trail last year.

Obamas proposed cap and trade carbon tax would be an extremely regressive energy tax on ALL Americans. Heating costs, food costs and gasoline prices would rise dramatically in spite of the BS from these leftist think tanks trying to sugar coat it otherwise.

Obama Lie #2 - "I'll make oil companies like Exxon pay a tax on their windfall profits, and we'll use the money to help families pay for their skyrocketing energy costs and other bills," Obama said.

Not a dime has been “redistributed”. Keep your promise Barack, spread that wealth around. Gas is almost $3/gal! Wait until Americans see their heating bill this winter.

Obama Lie #3 – Obama said he wanted a bill with shovel-ready civil construction projects on his desk to sign immediately upon taking office.

So far only $15 billion has been approved for about 4,000 projects and STILL unemployment in the heavy construction sector has continued to rise through the second quarter of 2009. But Obama pledged $ 62 Billion over the next 10 years for more foreign aid! Foreign aid! Four times as much money given away to ungrateful foreigners while GM and Ford languish and America’s roads, bridges and ports crumble in massive disrepair.
FR: Indeed, had Franken been in the Senate then, you could have probably added some $30-$50 billion to the size of the $787 billion stimulus; that was the cost of getting one more GOP vote, Susan Collins.

And look at the good that stimulus bill has done. Many states today are broke, even with the federal money that was borrowed from China and printed by the Fed to support them.  With states going broke, more people will be unemployed. While 15% unemployment seemed way too high to ever occur, now we can start thinking that unemployment may go to 20%.

Biden got that one right when he said about the stimulus, "We all got it wrong". And these are the same people the whacked out liberals want to run health care? The ones who "all got it wrong".
Just so we have this straight, Obama ran to the support of Zelaya, who is a Marxist dictator like Chavez and Castro, but Obama had to be dragged kicking and screaming to support the freedom fighters in Iran?

Just whose side is Obama on?

Um, this just in, that is what the Republicans in Congress have been doing since November 5, 2008!

Anyone remember that numberless budget and the phony health care plan?

Hell, the Republicans weren't even governing when they were in control of the White House and the Congress, so what exactly is your point again?

Government is bad, remember?

That's why the Republican party keeps running for office, to prove that they are right I guess.

God bless the millions of sincere Americans who parrot Republican talking points all the while working against their own interests because they are afraid of the unknown "other".

What could be sadder than that?
Where are the stories of all the liberal states going bankrupt as of midnight last night? New York, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Illinois, and the big one, California! You know, the states that spent money they didn't have on programs they didn't need. Kind of like what Obama is doing for the entire nation.

Indiana got it straight. Living within their means, taxing at a moderate rate, attracting businesses from the high tax neigboring states. I'm proud of my state.
Barack Obama =

$1800 tax increase per family per year.
Liar.
No Direction Home.
So democrats, here is my practical question now that you have majorities in everything how long before I can start complaining about the job your guys are doing without getting the Bush admin. Thrown back in my face?
See I complain now because I understand my history (like any good libertarian), and I can see very clearly that the same mistakes of past administrations are being made by this administration and in turn anyone could more or less predict what will happen.
So here it is.  How long?  2 years?  4 years?  Never?  Just wondering.  Things aren't getting any better, but I understand you have to give these policies time to succeed or fail.  But all hyperbole aside.  I just need an amount of time before an educated counter-argument can be made against the liberal policies of this Admin. And the Majority liberal Legislature without being lumped in with the republican who created the initial mess (which I am not a part of) or just called an Idiot (which is false and I resent the idea).

I realize MSNBC is a liberal stomping ground for many of you, but in the interest of honest debate and political education how long?
*** So what do Republicans do? Their initial spin is, “OK, no excuse time. -------------------------------------------

The republicans will do what they've been doing...absolutely nothing but obstruct, critize and complain like a bunch of old b**ches. They have no ideas and the only "base" they have is the far right because the majority have jumped ship...I wouldn't blame them behind their crap.

*** Cable catnip, part 2: We knew that Todd Purdum’s critical profile of Sarah Palin would get lots of attention. What we didn’t know was that it would immediatley start a public war between Bill Kristol/Randy Scheunemann and Steve Schmidt.

These two are fighting over the Hill billy barbie as though he selection as VP choice for McCain was the reeason he lost. Not...Macain didn't have a chance in hell of winning the election. He said enough himself that cut his throat. The silent hill billy just added to what we already knew about him. He was not capable of making sound judgemental decisions.

Palin is just plain dumb and doesn't know she's dumb..and arrogant...
The Rethuglican's seems to be oblivion to the fact that in 2 election cycles they have lost 14 seats. So continue w/ your obstructionists policy. The majority of American voters have finally caught on to your lies, hyprocrisy , party first and demagoguery. Enough of B.S., scare and fear mongering that is their hallmark of our governing. Status quo is no longer acceptable that goes for so called Blue dogs Democrats. GROW A SPINE AND TO THE RIGHT THING IE., HLTHCARE.

Indiana is also facing a budget deficit.  Along with 47 other states, both republican and democrat.

Only Montana and North Dakota have so far escaped the problem.

Good try though
Pete Roleum, Detroit, MI USA

Psssst...take some economic classes and listen to the news...watch CNBC.
FR: Will they [Republicans] completely wash their hands of governing, and simply sit back like a columnist or talk radio host and just criticize, er, campaign?

Sure, why not, that's what the Democrats did, and look where that got them. Look at the state of the union - Polls are showing that people are getting very concerned about the spending Obama and the Democrats are doing. They too are wondering just who is going to pay for all this spending, and what, if any, benefit there is to all of it. Unemployment keeps rising, and the foreign relations with the Middle-East, Asia, Central America and South America are breaking down. Mexico is the biggest headache with so many illegals coming to the US.

Obama has spend a lot of money and given a lot of speeches, but has no results to show for any of it.
Just heard on the news here last night, stimulus money coming in for infrastructure.  2000-3000 new jobs coming!  I'm watching new jobs being created weekly.  The good thing about Vegas, they advertise on the news who's hiring, whether it be Casino's or construction!
I am so laughing at the egg on the face of the disgraced extinct elephant party as Adulterer Sanford regales us with his tales of his Seven Mistresses.  Every time this idiot tries to further explain his mid-life crisis he keeps sticking his foot further into his igmorant mouth.  Man doesn't that clown have some advisors with a clue who would tell him to shut up?  If he thinks that airing his new mistresses story in public is going to win back his wife's heart then he's in for a big sad surprise in divorce court.  Plus to admit that his Argentinian Tango Partner is his soul mate instead of the woman he's been married to for 20 years is the surest way to wreck a marriage.  Gay marriage isn't the problem that traditional marriage faces, it's unfaithful jerky boys like Adulterer Sanford who are wrecking traditional marriage.  I can't wait for today's installment of his clueless excuses.

I'm so loving that Purdom article that exposes Sinner Sarah for the wicked witch she really is.  Now we get some nitty gritty details from former McNasty workers about how self absorbed she was and how she thought she was smart enough to run for VP when she's not smart enough to be in charge of latrine detail.  Let's all hope that the Wasilla Hillbilly splits her party of sore losers as she gets crushed by the mighty Obama campaign reelection machine.  She might think she's got the stamina to win but she'll find out that only a minority of deadbeats has the stamina to tolerate her presence.

Impeach Adulterer Sanford Now!
Impeach Palin Now!

Really??

Care to explain then why they took 2 billion dollars of that nasty socialist stimulus money to balance THEIR budget yesterday???

We'll be waiting...
why is every one ignoring the most telling part of the sanford saga. this low life chose to spend father's day weekend with his mistrress, other woman whatever rather than with his four boys. that shows the true lack of character and compassion.an affair is one thing but to not have enough self control to make your children a priority is unconceivable. this "man" should slink off quietly into the night and pray his boys forgive him.
We have great schools... we need better students that want to learn and have the self discipline to stay on task. teachers' hands are very often tied by local school boards that bow to parental bullying.

BTW-- WE NEED NATIONAL HEALTHCARE AND A BIG STIMULUS CHECK OBAMA.... NOW!  THE MIDDLE CLASS ARE DYING.

Biden got that one right when he said about the stimulus, "We all got it wrong". And these are the same people the whacked out liberals want to run health care? The ones who "all got it wrong".
Lynn Wheatly

I knew that something would eventually bring you out of the wook work, I did call the exterminator Al Franken! lol, lol So Al brought you out to piss and moan about something that has been established as time and patience.

GET SOME NEW MATERIAL...PLEASE!!!
Pete Roleum, Detroit, MI USA: How will Obama pay for this health care plan? How? Tax the rich? That ain’t going to happen. Tax the middle class? Obama promised he would not do that.

A very good question with no answer. Obama has backed himself into a corner from which he can never get out. He promised that there would be no taxes on anyone making less then $250K. If Obama has to pay for healthcare, he lied. Obama will need to tax everyones health care benefits, except the unions because the current plan exempts them from paying that tax, to pay for this huge program. Facts is facts, and there are no ways around it.

But, Obama will give his flowery speeches moderate by his hand picked stooge from Chicago, and it will all sound soooo goooood, until as Pete asks: "How do you pay for it?"
What's up w/ Sandford? Is he a masochist? South Carolians need to demand his resignation. Furthermore, the wife needs an attorney to start divorce proceedings. The man is saying things like the women is his soulmate and saying words like love story. Yeah, he could be the poster person for DOMA AND SANTITY OF MARRIAGE.VOMIT!
guess what? Indiana and several other right leaning states gets more federal money than it puts into the system do some research. we have already debated this point in the blog. does anyone out there still have the chart they can publish to show how much every state gets? BTW, California has armold,the republican, so it aint that liberal.
What a glorious day as we Democrats once again have a 60 seat majority in the Senate.  The repugnant ones now once again have 60 seat envy as I can't remember a time when they ever had 60 seats in the Senate.  Considering how the Democrats have had a majority in Congress far more than the repugnant ones ever had it proves that Mainstream America has been left of center for many decades.  Don't believe the feel good lies of the repugnant ones who tryt to lie that Mainstream America is right of center.

Senator Al Franken is such a class act and he's going to make a fine Senator for a long time.  His acceptance speech yesterday was pure class and he's going to be a great voice for us Liberals in the Senate.  I hope that he gives the Big Fat Idiot an extreme case of heartburn now that he gets to go to DC and have a bigger better bully pulpit than the Drugster Lush Limburger has.

I liked Keith Olbermann's language last night as he said some words I didn't think he could say on network tv.  I'm glad he's being more insulting to the dopes of nope.  I also like the way Ed Schultz really demeans the extinct elephants for their lying ways as well.  It's so nice to see some Liberals get tough with the repugnant ones who always use foul language and foul lies to press their losing ways.

Senator Al Franken Won!  Ha Ha!
How is Sanford, which FR seems to absolutely hate, any different from Bill Clinton? They seem to be the same person, just from different political parties. But Clinton is ambassador to the world and gets no criticism, while FR seems intent on destroying Sanford.
Dear Lynn Wheatley,

What in the world are you talking about?

Do you even know?

In your honor, I would like to pose a few questions to "the opposition":

1. Can you name one thing POLITICALLY that President Obama HAS EVER done right?

I mean, it's hard to be elected President of the United States without making at least ONE right move wouldn't you think?

2. Even if you disagree with everything the President is doing, do you concede that your opinion is in the MINORITY and that the Constitution of the United States provided for MAJORITY rule?

3. Short of seceding from the union or calling for armed revolt, can any of you think of any CONSTRUCTIVE WAYS to convince more Americans that you are right WITHOUT trying to SABOTAGE the country and rooting for our eventual failure?

4. Do you really think that this type of irrational and hateful rhetoric makes people MORE LIKELY to share your views?

Don't know which state you are from, but I live in the great state of Minnesota.  While Jesse Ventura was not our greatest governor (and I did NOT vote for him) he was the choice of the voters at that time and actually did not do permanent harm to our state.

Al Franken is a well educated, intelligent individual with a passion to go to Washington and work for the state of Minnesota.  Born and raised here, he knows the people and our needs.  He will represent us well, along with our other great senator, Amy Klobuchar.
Sanford's head is so twisted he's useless to his state. Time to go. When the little Latin hottie gets bored and tosses him back into the pond he can come back and help send more New Yorkers to prison for the ruin they've caused this country.
Schumer has earned the opportunity to become the Democrat Majority Leader in the Senate now...why not? He's done more for the party than Silly Harry Reid!  Reid is a drip.
I guess we'll no longer hear any complaining from Eric, Nashville Fan, Redhead, et al.  After all, there's nothing to stop their beloved Democrats from enacting everything they've ever dreamed about.  Nothing.  If something doesn't get done, they'll no longer have Republicans to blame.
Sanford isn't all that good looking and yet the guy supposedly has all these bimbos at a moment's notice. Maybe he pays for it. How else would he get it with a mug like that?  He wants to "save his marriage" and keep the mistress too? It seems that is what his intent is. His wife ought to say adios creep and take her kids with her. Leave him to play with his girlies in South America and wherever else they are. Soon he'll be in the gutter.

What a sleezebag he is.
It is difficult enough to get school kids across the street safely, and if some cannot see how the Governors are trying to do the same with the rest of us, I suggest watching the news more often with a more open mind. The public is not aware of Medical backgrounds of Gov.s and family. With all the organ donations and the recipients who do we blame the donor or the recipient when things go sour. Please answer that! Thanks.
The magic #60 will mean absolutely nothing if the Dems in the Senate don't get a backbone when it counts. Yes, I'm talking to you, Sen. Mark Warner. The Energy Bill passed, but barely and the number of Dems that voted against it was discouraging to say the least.

Re: Sanford? It's getting stinkier and stinkier all the time. What will his next revelation disclose? I can't wait to see the news tonight.
Tomorrow moring at 8:30, the unemployment numbers  for the month of June will be released.

They promise to be ugly.  This week the numbers for the largest cities showed that unemployment rose in each one, all with double digit unemployment rates.

Obama got it wrong on the economy, promising that his stimulus package would keep unemployment at 8% or below.  The CBO report, issued in January, called unemployment on the rise, peaking at between 9 and 10 percent in September, before receding.  They changed that projection in March, but still saw unemployment peaking in September at between 10 and 11 percent.

We're probably going to hit 11 per cent this month-with no end in sight.

Tell me again why I should trust him on health care?
Really??

Care to explain then why they took 2 billion dollars of that nasty socialist stimulus money to balance THEIR budget yesterday???

We'll be waiting...
Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL

That stimulus money doesn't seem to have helped Illinois now, has it? Saw your governor jumping up and down having a spasm over the Illinois legislator not wanting to raise your taxes. It was quite a sight. He looked to be auditioning to be the next Bozo on the Bozo show.

And aren't you the train-wreck that gave Sanford grief for not taking the very same money? So what side of the tracks are you coming from, besides the ugly side that is?

How ever long it will take you to resurrect the 4,000+ dead American soldiers, and millions of dead Iraqis killed in a war based on lies, and recover the BILLIONS of dollars we spent over there.

Sound fair?

Then get your wallet out, because you are going to be taxed like you have never been taxed before.
First Read:  any of you guys look at the first page of your politics section?  There's an interesting article there on Danial Inoye, and how he got federal funds for a bank he owns a large amount of stock in-a bank that did not need TARP funds, but got them after a call from his office.  Think that might be worth of a post?

I guess that corruption and misuse of taxpayer dollars to line your own pockets, is not as interesting as somebody's personal life, or the ever popular Sarah Palin bashing.
I knew that something would eventually bring you out of the wook work, I did call the exterminator Al Franken! lol, lol So Al brought you out to piss and moan about something that has been established as time and patience.

GET SOME NEW MATERIAL...PLEASE!!!
Anita, Birmingham, alabama

Anita - how are you? Could you please translate the above, what I'll loosely call "words", into something that is readable, makes sense, and has a point, and I'll be more then happy to respond to it. Looking forward to your response.
How is Sanford, which FR seems to absolutely hate, any different from Bill Clinton? They seem to be the same person, just from different political parties. But Clinton is ambassador to the world and gets no criticism, while FR seems intent on destroying Sanford.

Good point.  I've wondered myself.  And when do you suppose FR will be covering the Edwards' sex tape story?

Amen to my neighbor in Buick City! Jonathan you hit it on the head.
When will Obama be held accountable for ANYTHING?
Ann Brandt, Mpls, MN

Thank you Ann. What a lot of people don't know about Minnesota is that "they'll give you a chance and support you. If you screw up...they'll put you out. This was the last State that my son and I lived in before I was transferred by to Alabama. I loveed...still do. Great people, great GOVERNMENT structure and CLEAN air....God's country.
The "60th Dem" angle is being grossly overhyped. There has been no evidence that the Democratic caucus has anywhere near the discipline needed to hang onto all 60 votes.

The reality is that there's a "60 Floating Members" angle - where different Dems, Republicans and Independents jump on and off the legislative express depending on the issue and the realpolitik of their state.

I'd argue that the true measurement of Senate effectiveness does not lie entirely in the hands of the Democratic caucus but in a floating handful of Republicans who will either (a) vote their conscience to back Democratic legislation they believe in or (b)follow orders from their Republican minders.

In this respect, it will have more to do with how well (or poorly) Republicans keep their Senators in line than it will how well the Dems do likewise.

The tragedy would be if the Republicans were able to "have things both ways" - i.e. they get some Senators to ignore principle and toe the party line while the Dems allow their centrist members to vote their consciences.

Therefore, in my opinion, the responsibility for any failure of the Senate to pass meaningful legislation, still falls on the G-No-P.
Maybe Mark Sanford ought to just write a book. Sure to be a best-seller. To much info here. What a dummy.

Great blog. Obama is now and will continue to be the ruination of the free world and the United States as we know it.

Whew! Headline this morning in New York about Michael Jackson's kids. "Who's Your Daddy.?" And will
Neverland become the next Graceland? And Jackson's nurse said some of the pills he was taking were only allowed to be given in the ICU. WOW!

Obama - I am a citizen of the United States, not a citizen of the world. By the way, have you been to all 57 states yet?

It's really disgusting that War Criminal Cheney keeps opening his arrogant ignorant lying mouth about President Obama's handling of the wars that Clueless George started but never finished and won.  It's really disgusting to hear the fox and freaks propaganda channel whining that the withdrawal of troops from cities was President Obams's doing, they obviously can't remember back to December of last year as War Criminal Bush signed off on that deal.  Once again the irresponsible repugnant ones do the dirty deed and then whine that it was a Democrat who did it.

Chuck Shumer did a really great job getting us Democrats back in the majority from 45 to 60 seats in just 4 years.  Glad that the repugnant ones don't have their own Chuck Shumer as they'll never get to 60 seats as long as they remain the dopes of nope.   I wonder when the dopes of nope will hold a Nay Pride March for us to jeer at them in public?

I am so laughing at how the repugnant ones are wringing their hands as they are now the impotent political party with no ideas and no clue how to reach Mainstream America.  All they can do is impotently Whine Baby Whine and be the jerky obstructionist party.  President Obama has been far more successful than Clueless George ever was at this point in their terms.

Hey repugnant ones how's Klueless Karl Rove's generational control of government working out for you?  Ha Ha!

We now see how Steroid Arnold has screwed up our state's economy with his worthless Arnold's Promissory Notes.  Him and the small minority of repugnant ones in our legislature have screwed our state's economy up but good and it's good that Arnold is the one who's going to be seen caught holding the bag.

Recall Arnold Now!
In Obama We Trust!
Agreed Pat. great point. both reid and pelosi have shown the uncanny ability to do dog tricks such as roll over and play dead. there are several dems that could do a much better job of leading and getting a real solution for the middle class pushed through both houses. why can the rank and file not see how weak their leadership has actually been. dems could lose 5 senate seats next cycle and those losses would be squarely on reid's do nothing back. his favorite saying is not without 60 votes.
United States - Be careful what you wish for.  Minnesota has a more independent streak than you may think. - When I lived there in the 60's we talked of ceding and joining Canada.  Think of all those major corporations (General Mills, 3M, Green Giant, ect.) that would have a new home.

Len - You forgot to tell everyone how Indiana nearly shutdown the CASINOS this morning because there was not a budget until late last night.  Note, we are not better off than any other state - we just don't know it yet.
