Pelosi hits back on NRCC

Posted: Thursday, October 08, 2009 1:51 PM by firstread

from NBC's Luke Russert
In her weekly news conference on Capitol Hill, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) responded to a claim by the National Republican Congressional Committee that Afghanistan Commander General Stanley McChrystal should “put her in her place.”

“It’s truly sad that they really don’t understand how inappropriate that is. I am in my place, I am the Speaker of the House the first women Speaker of the House and I am in my place because the House of Representatives voted me there. But that language is something I haven’t heard in decades,” Pelosi said.

Many Democrats have decried the NRCC comment as sexist and an unfair attack. So far the NRCC has been unrepentant. According to the Wall Street Journal, the NRCC said today that Pelosi, “would rather make party politics a higher priority than our national security” and that the Speaker “self-righteously believes she is better suited to craft our country’s military policy.”

Feisty--I got your shout out. Mo thanks for the shout out!

Way too much shouting Anita. Need to chill a little babe. Maybe take an ativan.
We should let a paranoid five deferrment draft dodger craft of military policy.
Did you hear that you independent women voters: Stay in your place!
These weekly news conferences for The Nancy must be a hoot to go to. The woman is as dense as they come and way too easily flys off the handle (kind of like anita and feisty). Did Nancy find time to talk about her good friend Charlie as in Rangel? Any draining of the swamp being done today Nancy? No? Let us know when you'll pick that up again.
HEY, Speaker Pelosi,

Respectfully, answer this question- Where are all the jobs going?

Here are the stats lefties. Obama and the Dems have been in charge for over 9 months as you so love to brag and gloat. So where are the jobs? These are govt and industry stats not GOP propaganda. Govt issued stats lefties. YOUR leftist govt and press says:

US Dept Of Labor September 25, 2009
In August, employers took 2,690 mass layoff actions involving 259,307 workers. Mass layoff events increased by 533 and associated initial claims by 52,516 from July. Over the year, events increased by 803 and initial claims by 70,356. Year-to-date events and initial claims reached new program highs.

10/4/09 WASHINGTON (AP) — Former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan predicts that the unemployment rate will push past 10 percent and stay at that level for a while.

"Pretty awful" is how Greenspan describes Friday's report that the unemployment rate has risen to 9.8 percent.

He says the growing number of Americans who have been out of work six months or longer is of particular concern because jobless workers lose skills over such a long period.

The Commerce Department said Friday that demand for manufactured goods dropped 0.8 percent, much worse than the 0.7 percent gain that economists had expected. The August decline reflected plunging demand for commercial aircraft, a category that surged in July.

Obama and Nancy spend more time on talk shows and at fund raisers then they do with the General that's running their war.
It is hard for some white males to let go of the power/position that they held for hundreds of years.
Speaker Pelosi seemed to think that it was courageous when military officers spoke out against President Bush during the Iraq war.  Now that there is a Democrat in the white house the military is expected to remain silent in the face of inaction by the President that may be needlessly costing the live of our troops.
There are no depths to which the Republican party leaders are afraid to sink to.  I was flabbergasted by the "death panel" and "pull the plug on granny" comments.  I was horrified by "rationing" of care comments.  I was disgusted by the "KFC Obama dollars", the watermelon hunt email, and the "maccaca" comments.

Now they are making derogatory comments about women.  WHEN WILL IT STOP?  When the American people stand up for what is right and PUT THE REPUBLICAN PARTY IN THEIR PLACE!   People will continue this behavior until they are told loud and clear it is unacceptable.
Nancy is battle tested. The Marines need her on the front so she can plan out their attack.
Republicans are funny. They pitch a hissy fit about the deficit going up when the money goes to help AMERICANS have basic necessities but have no problem spending many times that to blow up some country that was no threat to the US. It is all about priorities. The Democrats are and always have been for the average citizen and the Republicans for the wealthy and big corporate interests

eagle1776

==================

You write the above words with a straight face? The average citizens in my town, or any town for that matter, have not collected one dime from any of the bailouts Obama has done since he took office. They collected nothing because they are not employed by banks, insurance companies, domestic automakers, and they are not doctors or lawyers. They also do not own or work for construction companies, work on Wall Street, or work for either the federal and state governments. They didn't buy a new guy and trade in their clunkers either (couldn't afford the new car even with the government give-away). But if you do own a construction company, run a bank, an insurance company, or work on Wall Street, i.e., a big corporation, then you are one the people that got the money, the money that Obama has spent this year. And at last look Obama and his friends in Congress that gave all that money away were Democrats.
OMG. She put the "throw back" jersey on. Again.
Maybe Nancy should suit up and head to Afghanistan to look for Osama.

He'll either run or dig deeper in hiding I'm sure.

Banam Rooster alert.
This just speaks to the mentality of the NRCC.  They would like to keep all sorts of people "in their place."  Women people, Black people, Immigrant people, and of course, liberal people, muslim people, intelligent people, the list goes on.

When are they gonna get that putting "people in their place" is not up to them.  I think they're getting pretty "uppity" if you ask me!!!
Did you hear that you independent women voters: Stay in your place!
The GOP

Poor Nancy. Getting some of the treatment Sarah P was getting. Is that a tear in her eye? It is. Poor Nancy.
Nancy Pelosi is the HEART AND SOUL of the Democratic Party

THAT'S WHY the Republicans keep attacking her

Unfortunately, Democrats don't consistently defend her from these ridiculous attacks

Actually, it's Chicken Hawk Field Marshall Boner who would '...would rather make party politics a higher priority than our national security”...'

Boner and Generalissimo McConJob are politicizing Foreign Policy
Much like Karl Rove used Terorism for political purposes

It's Projection to accuse someone of something you're doing

Nancy Pelosi, Bringing San Francisco Values to DC

Go Nancy !!

PS:
If Sarah Palin wants to be booked for more speaking engagements, she needs to wear a swim suit and play the flute
She should also 'rap' about hunting wolves from a helicopter
Mama Grizzley, indeed
Go 'Pardon' a Turkey !!

;-D !!
There's a story on Think Progress where a group is planning their coup against the USA, since the military isn't going to do it. They have about 200 people so far signed up.

One of them wants the coup because he wants to bring back slavery. He's serious.

Luke! So glad to see you back. I've missed your articles...God Bless you and your family.

It's just like Republicans to be disrespectful of women and disrespectful to the Speaker of the House. The NRCC is actually showing us registered female voters just how much they regard women in authority. Way to dopes...way to go.
It is hard for some white males to let go of the power/position that they held for hundreds of years.

Chandler, Los Angeles : Now they [the Republicans]are making derogatory comments about women.

So all those nasty comments about Sarah Palin - those came from Republicans?
The correct fashion in which to address Pelosi is "YOU IGNORANT SLUT!"
Yes they have Clark. Everyone that has a job already got tax credits.

Some people have bought cars from clunkers thus reducing our dependence on foreign oil and bringing down cost of gas resulting in savings for those in your town. The increased spending and hiring by small town delaerships and big auto in the heartland has also resulted in more spending and hiring that has reduced job losses for the same and is now SURELY rebuilding an economy that your cronies almost brought to an off the cliff depression after 8 years and 6 years of stewardhip.
See Madam House Speaker that;s why I respect you handle your business and to all member's of the House that are men especially you Steny speak up or shut up thias ain't no boy's club she is the Leader and the Speaker of the House and it's not funny at lunch and to you rMr Clyburn I have some respect for you also push back against this now see enough is enough fear is what the get when they mention Mrs.Pelosi's name for they know she has Power but is onlty as strong as her Member of her party so who you with and she should question him even through he was picked people got to rememmber some of our commander are in this for the glory also, yet a life is a life but I doubt that any Military person signed up thinking that if they went to war it's a good chance they might not come back sorry  but we are not on the retreat  and are safe it's just we can't move forward so he couls be putting more troop in harms way,the winter season is approaching and he need to stop listening to maybe Cheney's boys I mean you do know that black water and other contractor's missioneries are over their plus the Election is not resolved and to male further since winter is coming that  means nothing is goig to move not even the enemy they are waiting for us just  like oe of the movies when the Indian's stood on mountains and trapped their foe. That ground over their is going to be rough and dangerous and dusty with low visibility who is he going to be shooting at us for we won't need to be doing nothiong but patroling our  camps 24-7 so nobody get's close enough to attack and keeping out troop's warm she is right again now if he is so pressd for troop's get no go and burn up those poppy fields so he can draw some of them out,for that 's the money right their for really rigth now the people who are attacking us only need about 200 soldier's for we are walking to them not them to us so think General we are not wesk but not that bad too or try this air strike and knock down all those mountain wre those goat herders are posting up and going home to diner in those cave's this should not at this time be a groung war we need to air stirke's for about 3 day's pouding those hill until we see some retreating.
The Democrats are and always have been for the average citizen and the Republicans for the wealthy and big corporate interests

eagle1776

Your post name obviously does not represent your experience. Too much liberal broadcasted TV for you by the "rich elites" of society.

The eagle has crashed and burned.
Boy the republicans have got nothing. Zero.

They have managed to insult women in very interesting ways this week.  First with Kyl throwing a temper tantrum over having to pay for maternity benefits.  Second, with this ignorant comment about Pelosi.  And lastly, yesterdays vote on Frankens ammendment which would prevent contractors from denying their employees their day in court in the event of a rape.

Nice going.  What self-respecting woman in their right mind would want to be a party to the gop's nonsense?  All they have left is old white people, before too long attrition will kill off their constituency and that will be the final nail in their coffin.

Do you think the gop realizes it's 2009, not 1949?  It doesn't appear so.
Nancy blank Pelosi...yuck, yuck, yuck

As I look at the sentiments offered to 'No Jo', I am moved.  Folks that usually have nothing but snark and mean toward a guy soften up when there is a personal misfortune involved.  Why does it take something like this to make people act civil toward eachother?  And yes, I'm as guilty as the next guy with some of my posts.  C'mon, people- we can do it.  Let's pull together more instead of finding more ways to wallow in 'us-vs-them'.
And No Jo- children are nothing short of gold.  I hope your grandbaby lives a long, prosperous life!
(actually, I hope YOU do too).
Buzz

The liberal left cranked up the slurs and negatives when Bush was in office and created this environment on FR. Go back in the archives and see for yourself. The Obama method is to ridicule any opposition and his followers are loyal to that approach, even though he is a promise breaker.

Good thought though.
The GOP blew the economy in 8 yrs and now
they want a magic wand to restore it in 8 months
what short memory. They cry deficit for public
option but spend, spend any amount to give MChristal
another 40,000 foot soldiers that may triple the
deficit even more. It goes to show that the party of
no, no is only interested in politics no matter how
Reciprocity is owed to the Amrican people by the Demorcratic House and Senate you voted for that Iraq invasion and were willing to put more money into it and we still are paying for it knowingly it was a bad war you owe us a Public Oprion filled Bill pay up we don't need no more drama save people who are affected oveer here first just as you teach you children take care of home first and pay your debt's get over you greed, racism and pride change is in America and we are it.

Nice try though - very legit looking for those who don't bother to read.

There is more then enough information there to question the constitutionality of the current HCR legislation. More then likely you just couldn't comprehend it or understand it. Nice try though at attempting to create doubt. People that want to education and inform themselves of what is going on will take the time to understand the information that is provided. There are plenty of sites set up that carry that type of discussion.

Hey there Eastern Ohio Us dumb old construction workers have to work to. Anita: One would think there would be entire department to try and help you.
Pelosi would be one of the problems.  It's time for her to go.
Obama gots all kind of odes sung about him. Nancy needs a song now too! Mmm, mmm,mm, Nan Cy Pe-Losi, umm,mm,mm.
At the risk of making another sports analogy, the General is the quarterback, Obama, the coach. There is not now or will there ever be a q-back who didn't think he could make that 1st down late in the game if only the coach would just give him the ball. Every soldier I've ever known feels like that they can win the battle if given the chance. They have to have that mindset or they would never be able to handle the stress.
The coach (or the Commander in Chief) has to make the call...is it sensible to go for the first down? Or, in reality, is there a battle there to be won?  If Vietnam taught us anything, it should be that we need to have a draft to level the playing field about waging war.  My parents sure changed their tune about Vietnam when I turned 18.
Speaker Pelosi seemed to think that it was courageous when military officers spoke out against President Bush during the Iraq war.  Now that there is a Democrat in the white house the military is expected to remain silent in the face of inaction by the President that may be needlessly costing the live of our troops.

MSierra,

I agree with you 99.9% of the time.  Having said that on this one I’m torn!

YES I agree they SHOULD have stepped down… but they DIDN’T and WE as progressives NEED to start holding our own to a higher standard!

If we lead by example the Republican’ts will have NO choice but to follow (but hey isn’t that what they do best… bunch of little lemmings in white sheets with hoods!)

And don’t EVEN get me starting on that piece of sh!t Blago… can’t wait for him to join his new cell mate George Ryan!  Maybe they can share a ‘soap on a rope’!

How 'special'!

"disrespectful of women?"  How much hate and anger and disrespect comes out of your mouth at the mere mention of Palin??????????
Member of the Republican Congress: It's time to stop blocking this effort just because the sitting President is a Democrat. The benefit will be to all, including yourselves, who show care and concern for the American People. Set an example for your base that we are all Americans first and party affiliation last. Listen to your own mentors and wise men and stop trying to "stop Obama." This is not about him, it is about us and you.
Mom of four

Republicans aren't blocking anything. It's the Democrats that are blocking any and all bills. Watch Fox News instead of Olbermann and maybe you'd know that.
Ed Crane, Middlebury.  Don't blame the current state of partisan politics on democrats.  There's always been a partisan back and forth since the first presidential election.  But you are either ignoring or have forgotten the nonstop attacks by the right on both Clintons, the Rove orchestrated attacks on Max Cleland and John Kerry, both of whom served in the miltary honorably, labeling them unpatriotic despite the fact that none of the GOP who did the attacks on mililtary people had served one day in the military; no days in Vietnam, no lost limbs yet every day it was relentless and ugly.  Guess you also missed that not once did President Obama attack John McCain's war record, not once, he praised it and the rest of us respected that service as well.  Once the GOP started down this road, don't expect the democrats to not return the favor.  That doesn't mean I like it any more than you do, it just means that the left will not sit back while the right lobs bombs at us.
How is telling one woman to shut up disrespecting all women together?  If you think this comment by the NRCC is disrespecting to all women that just shows how little you think of yourself and your gender.  If women want to be treated equally then they should be able to be spoken to equally.  If Pelosi were a man this would be a non-issue!!  Isn't stretching this line to all women the exact stereotyping and misdirection that you libs scream about everyday.  Pelosi has now said publicly that the CIA are liars and that our field generals don't know what they are doing.  Great leadership Mrs. Speaker.  How does that line go, "With friends like these............
David Howell, George Washington University:

Not so fast cookie. Read between the lines...you're never good at reading between the lines...when will you learn? There is nothing unconstitutional about requiring people to have insurance.

It’s unconstitutional for me to be over taxed. The problem lies with the fact that your party don't give a rat’s ass about people in general.

Weren’t McCain and the other republicans advocating issuing a funky 5,000 dollar voucher to people that didn't have coverage? That lousy $5,000 would go to the "big business" of insurance companies...tell me something...do you actually think that their plans were fair to the consumer? Is it Constitutionally fair that we the people to continue to fund insurance companies with taxpayer money while they continue to screw us...that is a serious "cluster fu**ing". $5,000 dollars WILL NOT BUY INSURANCE COVERAGE!!!! It only adds to insurance companies coffers.
