Update on Iran nuke talks

Posted: Monday, October 19, 2009 12:53 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Andrea Mitchell
An official at the Vienna talks says it is not clear yet whether Iran will agree to proceed with the International Atomic Energy Agency's proposal to ship their low-grade enriched uranium to Russia for reprocessing.

Iranian officials met with the U.S and other western diplomats today in Vienna -- shortly after Iranian television declared that Iran would not agree to deal with France because of past disputes with France.

France, in recent weeks, has been taking a harder line on the Iran talks than the other U.S. allies.

Today's meetings lasted about two hours and 45 minutes.

They are due to resume at 10:00 am tomorrow -- to go into greater depth and see if they can reach an implementation agreement on what was proposed in Geneva.

Is there an update on the rumor that the Ayatollah Khamenei is ill or in a coma?  Are we negotiating people who are not in control of their country?  Is Iran wanting to postpone negotiations long enough for them to complete the work on their nuclear reactor.

There are a lot of questions here that need some serious investigation.
This is then FIFTH time I have tried posting this:

Crazy Liberal Ideas

Thomas Jefferson – Created the Public School system because of his beliefs in Socialism.

John Quincy Adams - he worked on developing the “American System”, consisting of a high tariff (taxes for the Tea Baggers – still laugh at the name) to support internal improvements such as road-building, and a national bank to encourage productive enterprise and form a national currency – more fake Government jobs by the Socialist party.

Abraham Lincoln – Freed the slaves by destroying States’ Rights because he believed in Big Government

Ulysses S Grant - Grant's 1868 campaign slogan, "Let us have peace," was in reference to his appeal to help the American Indian and the African American – He even gets the nod for pushing through the 15th Amendment of our Constitution, which allowed African Americans the right to vote – he would have fit in very well with Acorn

Rutherford B Hayes - He vetoed bills repealing civil rights enforcement four times before finally signing one that satisfied his requirement for black rights – another Acorn volunteer?

Chester A Arthur - Arthur's primary achievement was the passage of the Pendleton Civil Service Reform Act. The passage of this legislation earned Arthur the moniker "The Father of Civil Service" and a favorable reputation among historians – just another community organizer

Teddy Roosevelt – Busted up monopolies in order to redistribute the wealth, because of his Socialist leanings – right John McCain? Not to mention he was a Tree Hugger, dear Lord!!! Not to mention the Panama Canal – just another Government created job. He even regulated the Railroads – geez, was this guy even an American?

Herbert Hoover - After his successful election in November 1928, Hoover entered office with a plan for reform of the nation's regulatory system. A dedicated Progressive and Reformer, Hoover saw the presidency as a vehicle for improving the conditions of all Americans by regulation and by encouraging volunteerism – sound familiar? Damn the community organizers!!

Calvin Coolidge – famous for lack of rhetoric, is attributed for writing, “The words of a President have an enormous weight, and ought not to be used indiscriminately." – NO damnit, we must Bomb, Bomb, Bomb Iran, right?

Dwight D Eisenhower – Created the Interstate Highway system – you know, those shovel ready, fake government jobs? He also insisted on making Washington a model to the U.S. by integrating black and white school children – he could have worked for Acorn too, I suppose?

As you might have guessed, these are ALL Republicans and it only goes to show how far they have strayed from their roots, and how they have dumbed themselves down. Now, the Devil is always in the details in every example given, but while the Republicans used to be the progressive party, and the Democrats were the racist, Big Business folk, etc, at least the Democrats have evolved in their line of thinking, whereas the Republicans grabbed a hold of the disenfranchised Democrats that were left in the cold – the racist, Big Business, no regulations, etc –– and have clung to the last gasp of this disenfranchised group, because they are so far removed from mainstream, it is scary.

PS: If Ronnie Ray-Gun were still president, he would've already sold Nukes to Iran - but lets not embolden them by talking with them - LOL

I bet the Obama administration is just astonished to find out Iran was not telling the truth. And I guess we'll have to go to Fox News to get some decent coverage of all this news because to other news outlets this just isn't important. Those other outlets need to stay on top of the ballon boy incident in Colorado.
It's getting really bad when France is taking the most aggressive action on stopping Iran.
The length of the meetings is important. Obama doesn't have to come to any conclusions, just keep having meetings. That will be Obama's and the Democrats theme for re-election next year: 'We had a lot of !!.

Good for them.
See where cnbc went for the bait on a phony memo from the Chamber of Commerce saying the Chamber was now for Cap&Trade? Turns out that memo was a fraud. The memo came from one of those fake organizations that front for the Democratic party. I guess I'll have to stick with that phony news organization Fox News to get my real news.
This is not a priority with Obie. Nukes. Hell no.
Not a priority. He's in the health care business and the dumbing down of America.

Iran is a lot like Obama. Great at talking, not so good at doing.
Time, it takes time.  Iran will use their bluff and bluster to try to get a better deal.  I credit the Obama administration for using our allies and diplomacy first.  Soft, smart power is a better use of our military might than guns and bombs.  Iraq is a classic example of how Bush's "shoot 'em up" policy worked; add that to his "axis of evil" and you get North Korea, and Iran deciding they needed nuclear weapons in order to defend themselves.

Caught a brief discussion about how Pres Obama has operated the first 9 months, one saying that he has allowed Congress to dictate the agenda.  Hardly, he has told Congress what he expected them to do, provided them with outlines of his view, and then allowed them the opportunity to do what we elect them to do, legislate.  You just know that IF Obama had handed Congress HIS legislation, the critics would be complaining about that.
For Jody and the other believers in soft power, all we want is just one, single, solitary example where it's actually worked.  That's all.  Just one.  Sure, we conservatives are pretty slow and unenlightened, but surely you can cite many examples of the success of soft power to help show us the way.
Since the Carter administration Iran has consistently said that it would like to destroy Israel, the United States, and the western world in general.  They have engaged in and supported terrorism through out the world.  If they would like to kill all of us, what is there to negotiate?  Will we reach a compromise and agree that it's OK to kill half of us?

Obama first 9 months have included a lot of lofty and incoherent speeches, a lot more deficit spending, and the Beer Summit. The results have been a lost war in Afghanistan, 3 million more people unemployed, Health Care Reform legislation that is dead in the water, and record deficits and debt.
IRAN IS HEADING FOR NUCLEAR ARMAMENT

When you have no will, and you have given up the leverage that Russia could have provided, will now prove futile. It will also allow Iran to continue apace the development of its nuclear weapons.

Obama gave up a powerful element when he backed off the Europe based missile shield without concessions from Putin.

Razor (from another thread) ~ "Anna Molly's Magical Mystery Tour is not more than a rusted out old VW with cracked windows to match the cracked minds who ride along on that tour."

Whoa, Razor.  You sound sharp.  Are you looking for a ride, by any chance?

If you ask me nicely, I'll even let you drive.
If Ronnie Ray-Gun were still president, he would've already sold Nukes to Iran

Saint Dick, Dallas, TX

Hardly, but we would see the likes of Clinton or Carter doing it.
Jody, Iowa (Sent Monday, October 19, 2009 1:38 PM)

absolutely right Jody. Our President will never do enough for the party of no.

Ron Indiana (Sent Monday, October 19, 2009 1:04 PM)
Great question to start off with Ron!

Great to have you back Mark Murray! Any insight into Ron's question about the health of the Ayatollah?
and the dumbing down of America.

No this would be the Bush approach not Obama's.
If Iran renegs on this promise there should be strong sanctions and possibly tanks etc. on every one of their borders with nukes aimed at their facilities so if they budge an inch toward launch they will be toast. When shown how suicidal such action would be they will probably comply with the UN request.
Fox news-Fair and Balanced?  right, I have not seen anything from Fox news that is fair and balanced.  I have to admit I don't watch it, because it is so "fair and Balanced", Right.  Everytime I flip it over to that fair and balanced channel, I want to vomit, there is nothing fair and balanced about Fox news, not one damn thing.
St. Dick, one minor correction. The Republican party of Thomas Jefferson is not the same party as the Republican party of Lincoln and the others you list. Jefferson's Republican party was the forerunner of the modern Democratic Party. Good post and interesting anyway. I am glad you pointed out all those Republicans (and a Federalist, John Adams) who were actually progressive.

You're wrong about Jefferson.  He was a Democratic-Republican.  Today's Democratic Party is considered to be the descendant of Jefferson's Democratic-Republican Party.  Not necessarily ideologically, but historically.
Saint Dick, Dallas.  Excellent post.  Makes you wonder how a party with such progressive roots could become so obstinate in their opposition against any and all things that would benefit We the People.

Good point, Ron.  I, too, would like to hear more about the Ayatollah's health and wonder how it plays into this latest news.  There has been nothing mentioned for days.

Another thing, Rachel Maddow reported on a former Bush administration official being sentenced to prison--not a peep anywhere else.

I agree with fair and balanced about one thing, too often the media picks up and pushes false information.  But it is unlikely a democratic group is going to write a fake memo giving the Chamber a positive stand on cap & trade.  It is big oil and its front group, Americans for Prosperity that is out there opposing it and more than likely, the memo writing group is one that fronts for the GOP in an effort to paint the Chamber as in favor of it.  You know, keep people thinking big business, big oil, big insurance are out there trying to fight for the ordinary citizen--yea, right.
You just know that IF Obama had handed Congress HIS legislation, the critics would be complaining about that.   Jody, Iowa (Sent Monday, October 19, 2009 1:38 PM)

Who? The millions of unemployed who will come out in force in the next election and hand the Dems their hats?

Obama is living in a fantasy world. Millions are unemployed and are in foreclosure. Hundredes of billions promised for programs that would create jobs but unemployment has been increasing steadily under Obamas mismanagement. All the lefties can do is scream insults at Bush. That is really helping the situation.
The key to Iran (as well as Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Russia and Venezuela) is following a long term strategy......develop alternative solutions to oil, reduce gas consumption by at least 10% per year. By 2050, water will be $10.00/gallon & gasoline will be 25 cents per gallon.......at that point the Middle East will have abundant quantities of two worthless "treasures". Sand and oil....we win, they lose, no shots need be fired!(that is if we have water and the patience to carry out a long term strategy).
As Iran is killing American troops in Afganistan.. they are just laughing at the crap piece of a president we have
it is not clear yet whether Iran will agree to proceed

Why are they even being given a chance to agree or disagree?  At what point do you we this is how it will be?  I guess we need to let the maniac have the bomb and destroy Isreal first.
Trevor,Denver, Co Monday@1;08 and Fair and Balanced @1:24===If you truly believe Fox News is the only place to get your news, why do you waste your time at MSNBC and else where? I quit watching Fox News about eight years ago and I have not watched Morning Joe since a year ago. These programs are just too one sided for me.
