3 states report record unemployment

From NBC's Ali Weinberg
Twenty-three states reported unemployment-rate increases in September, with three registering record job losses, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics' monthly employment summary.

Nevada (at 13.3%), Rhode Island (at 13.0%), and Florida (11.0%) all posted their HIGHEST unemployment rates since 1976, when the BLS began monitoring the rates.

Despite Nevada's record rate, the chief ecnomist in the state's Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation said the over-the-month increase was the smallest since March 2008. In Florida, however, economists predicted unemployment would not reach 11% until mid-2010, which means the rate could still increase further.

Michigan again had the highest unemployment rate in the country, at 15.3%, up a tenth of a percent from last month. New York lost the most jobs last month (81,700), followed by Texas (44,700), California (39,300), Wisconsin (21,700), and Michigan (21,500).

Minnesota, Ohio, Oregon, and Wisconson all reported measurable jobless-rate DECREASES over the month. But local economists attribute that to the numbers of unemployed who have dropped out of the labor force rather than an uptick in jobs.

Minnesota's rate dropped partly because of record numbers of unemployed returning to school, spurring an enrollment surge in the state's 23 colleges. Dan McElroy, commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, was quoted by NBC affiliate KARE as saying, "Having the unemployment rate go down from 8% to 7.3% is a good thing. I would be happier if we had also announced a sharp increase in jobs in the state, which was not the case."

49 out of 50 states have lost jobs since Obama had his Stimulus plan passed into law. Just what exactly was that supposed to stimulate again?
WHAT? Not two months ago, Joe Biden said the stimulus was working beyond the Administrations expectations.

Expect very little from Obama and you will not be disappointed.
Jobs are being killed daily, and yet Obama dithers with a dead HCR bill, Afghanistan, Cap&Trade, fund raising, and attacking news organizations he doesn't like. Not much of a focus by Obie on job creation.
"Still, despite voters' ambivalence about climate change, 50% said they would support a policy setting limits on carbon emissions, versus 39% who say they would oppose it.

States registering record job losses, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics' monthly employment summary-Rhode Island (at 13.0%)"

Well, two Obama problems may cancel each other out. If Global Warming is true and the sea level rises, then Rhode Island will be gone along with its unemployment problem. Thanks Al Gore!
Where is the article stating 79 cities are showing some sproutage?

This is a bummer time; but I believe it will get better.  Unemployment hit its peak in Reagan's 3rd year in office.  Recessions end, employment stabilizes (although aren't there a number of stats showing that MANY jobs are never coming back?)  We need to focus on innovation and NEW opportunities.  Education is key in that regard.  Now to just slow the rate of cost on that issue.

Either Chuck Todd is in denial - or he is planning to quietly sneak a clean shaven photo up.  What gives, Chuck?  You lost the bet,...where's the razor?

Ron, IN - you'll have to carry the water for me, I am swamped at work and feeling way under the weather.  I’ve been writing; but rarely getting posted.  Plus, they have messed up a couple of really great jokes.  Oh well, I love reading yours!.

I believe it is acceptable and customary to refer to anyone with the highest 'title' they've achieved, in the first person.  When writing or speaking in the 3rd person, the word "former" should be inserted.  Even if they quit.

I believe I received a ration of crap last September when we discovered that the former Mayor of Wasilla was running rape kits and other rape treatment through the victim’s primary care.  Why is it obvious to some of us that often the Corporate Interest Party policies are just not good for average “Joe” citizens?

Un’effin-believable.

The Men (Sent Monday, October 19, 2009 12:54 PM)

What a lame excuse of a post.  I don’t know what planet you are on where women are working 40 hours and leaving.  And maybe some men are working more hours; but not producing more?  I would argue that with your sexist attitude you are ‘working’ the long hours to avoid your duties at home.  Or you are simply THAT incompetent?  Don’t you find it telling that in this down economy, employers are keeping the women and laying off the men?  Obviously part of that is that they already pay women less, so it is cheaper; but I feel certain the other part is that they know the women will continue to out produce the men, so it is LESS risky for continuity.  But hey, what could I possibly know about it?  I’m just a mere woman (who has already put in 20 hours this week and it’s 9:00a.)

Many know I am quite the feminist, so in no way do I mean this to demean women; but I think someone should check Mr. Beck’s estrogen levels.  He seems to be on a 28 day cycle.  Perhaps his wife is giving him birth control pills instead of Viagra or Cialis?  I’m just saying,…

I still want to respond to Tim, Stocken; but I simply haven't invested the time in the research,...sorry, Tim.

bs.  Joe Biden isn't a war monger.  It makes a difference to take the deferrment when you aren't then promulgating WAR instead of peace.

Apples and Oranges, moron.

Good gosh! Except for Texas, these are all states that are controlled top to bottom by Democrats. See a trend here America? Democrats will promise you the world when they campaign (see BHO for details), but look at the results once they actually do something. Not so good, right?

Obama inherited a recession, and made it into a depression.
Didn't someone tell us that the recession had ended? Who was that again? Oh yes, the Obama administration!

We must have slipped back into another brand new recession then. Let's watch as Obama trys to blame this new one on Bush.

Bang up job governors!!  You guys are record setters!
Trickle down indeed.
We need Obama Stimulus Plan II, because Obama Stimulus Plan I was apparently wasted on paying for Wednesday Night White House entertainment, and Snickers bars for the kids.
The worst gamble the Obama administration can make teeters on the employment numbers not on the TARP (trap) money companies officer's bonuses...
Regulations plays right into the GOP's , "see they want to not pay for what people are worth"..
Man up Obama..
Play bridge not poker... the aces and kings and queens and jacks are all in your hand...bid seven no trump...and continue to send the voice of help for all...remember that Social Security is not funded by Wall Street..Thanks be to the Dems's not the GOP..

Thanks for creating another Obama "Green Job" Clara.

Although, "hire it done" sounds like a Biden Alzheimers moment.
I seriously can not find a job.  I look every day.  I've been to all the fast-food joints.  There is nothing remotely close to my house.  I am hurting.  I look on line.  I walk door-to-door to all the businesses in my area.  There is nothing

YOU. ARE. EVIL.

I live in an area with "reported" unemployment of 34%.  In reality, it is higher.  I have a college degree and stellar references but can't even get in at McDonalds. I am hurting. I don't want hand-outs.  I want to work.

I was going to say that I hope you are never in my position but after your heartless response, I hope my god damns you to hell.
