First thoughts: Good week for Dems?

*** A good week for health care? Was this a good week or a bad week for health care? This might be the most fascinating Rorschach test in Washington today. If you listen to many Democrats involved deep in the process, they sound like Kevin Bacon in "Animal House": "Remain calm! All is well!" And they very well could be right. After all, there was real progress in that both the House and Senate have merged bills, which are potentially days away from making it on the floor -- something that's never happened before on health care. That's the good news for the Democrats and the White House. The bad news? It seems all the progress that was made in winning over Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe and in lining up the moderate/conservative Dem senators has been lost. Both the House and Senate bills seem to push things toward the left of the party, suddenly putting focus (and nervousness) on those moderates. They are the ones, remember, on the 2010 election frontlines.

*** Fighting the good fight: Then again, perhaps both Senate Majority Leader Reid and Speaker Pelosi are doing what they have to do -- fight the good fight for the base and push as hard as they can until they are forced to compromise. (That’s what you’re supposed to do when negotiating, right?)  Bottom line: Last week, there was little doubt health care was going to get done. At the end of this week, that’s probably still true. BUT it certainly seems like the process, for Democrats, is going to politically painful for quite some time. Of course, as we’ve said before, the sausage-making process always was going to painful -- and ugly.

*** Another Afghanistan meeting: The big news today is President Obama’s closed-door meeting on Afghanistan with his national security team and Joint Chiefs of Staff at 1:30 pm ET. Today’s meeting has the feel of a strategy implementation meeting -- more so than simply strategic review. Clearly, the president's review is winding down; this week has been FILLED with trial balloons leaked to the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the AP about various scenarios, all of which end up with the president OK-ing more troops. The question is how many…

*** Quite the work ethic in the House! A leaked summary of ethics inquiries in the House confirms the suspicion that many in this town already have: The Democrats have a growing ethics problem, and it took them just three years back in power to do that. Interestingly, if you dig deep into the Washington Post story, you'll see this ethics issue really is about one subcommittee and seems to have one person at the center of it all -- John Murtha. Couple him with the ethics cloud hovering over Ways and Means Chair Charlie Rangel and you've got yourself a ready-made issue for NEW, non-Washington Republican candidates to run on. (Should we expect Hoffman in NY-23 to turn a quickie ad over the weekend?) Don't forget the ethics clouds of '91-94 (Post office and bank) helped derail the Democrats as did the ethics clouds of '04-‘06 for the Republicans. And what really hurt both parties in power at the time was the slowness with which the leadership handled the problems. How will this Democratic leadership team handle this? Rangel and Murtha, in particular, have lots of "old bull" friends in the House. At one point does the White House and Mr. ("Change the ways of Washington") Obama say, “Enough is enough.” He's totally steered clear of this mess for some time and passed it off as House business. But if it's creating a cloud over Washington, then doesn’t he have to step in?

*** The fight over the stimulus continues: Later today, the Obama administration says it will post data showing the stimulus has created or saved some 650,000 jobs. And because this data reflects only half of the stimulus spent through Sept. 30 -- money for education, construction and roads, but not money for tax cuts or Pell grants -- administration officials say these numbers “confirm government and private forecaster’s estimates that overall Recovery Act spending has created and saved at least 1 million jobs.” More: “Analysis by both the Council of Economic Advisers and a wide range of private and public-sector forecasters indicates the Recovery Act contributed between 3 and 4 percentage points to real GDP growth in the third quarter, suggesting that in the absence of the Recovery Act, real GDP would have risen little, if at all, this past quarter.” However, House Minority Leader John Boehner counters with this statement: “The trillion-dollar ‘stimulus’ isn’t working, and no amount of phony statistics can change that... While Washington keeps spending and piling more debt on the backs of our children and grandchildren, out-of-work families keep asking, ‘where are the jobs?’” By the way, the fact the administration is trying to SELL two sets of numbers (650,000 vs. 1 million) is leading to confusion already, and only underscores the P.R. problem the administration has in selling the stimulus; it's been a problem from the get-go.

*** Hillary’s tough talk: NBC's Andrea Mitchell reported yesterday that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave Pakistan a dose of some tough medicine, charging it’s hard to believe that no one in Pakistan's government knows where al Qaeda is -- and couldn't get them if they wanted to. She also leveled that al Qaeda has had a safe haven in Pakistan for seven years, and that there needs to be more of a two-way street between the countries. In an interview with Mitchell that aired on TODAY this morning, Clinton justified her tough talk, saying it was all part of her game plan. “I would not be representing my country if I were not to be as forthcoming with them as they have been with me,” the secretary said. This isn't the first time Clinton has delivered a blunt message while traveling overseas. Interestingly, Clinton now heads to the Middle East, a region that could certainly use some tough talk. Be sure to catch more of Andrea’s interview with Clinton on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports” beginning at 1:00 pm ET.

*** Cook’s warning about Tuesday: In his latest column in National Journal, political analyst Charlie Cook warns not to read too much into the handful of contests on Tuesday. “Whatever the outcome of this year’s New Jersey and Virginia governor’s races, the results will depend on conflicting factors that are unlikely to be replicated in many contests next year,” he writes. “Beware, then, of drawing sweeping conclusions.” He also applies that advice to the fascinating NY-23 special congressional election. “Losing the seat would be a bit painful for the GOP but would not signal much about the party’s 2010 prospects elsewhere. After all, how many states have a viable Conservative Party and how many times next year will the GOP nominate someone as liberal as Scozzafava?”

*** Looking ahead to next year: Meanwhile, the person at Charlie’s “Cook Political Report” who analyzes the House races, David Wasserman, argues that -- one year out -- Republicans are poised to pick up House seats in 2010, but maybe not enough to take back the chamber. “House Democrats face real dangers, foremost a less favorable midterm electorate… But Democrats have a financial advantage, and in the era of endless robo-polling, they will also have plenty of opportunity to diagnose and treat their problems. More than turnout needs to change for the GOP to make larger gains. Republicans need to change more minds and Democrats need to make serious mistakes, like failing to focus enough on jobs throughout 2010, to put the current House majority at risk. At the current rate, it's most plausible Democrats will lose between 15 and 25 seats next year.” And 15-25 is close the average loss for a president’s first midterm election.

*** The 2009 mayoral races: In addition to next week’s NJ and VA contests, there also will be several mayoral races in at least 15 major cities across the country. The marquee ones are in New York and Boston. In New York, after billionaire Mayor Mike Bloomberg (I/R) convinced legislators to change the city's term-limits law to allow for a third term, his re-election became inevitable. Even with polls showing him leading Democrat Bill Thompson by double digits, Bloomberg has spent an extraordinary $85 million of his own money on the race -- and he's expected to eventually spend between $110 million and $140 million. (He even aired a negative attack ad against Thompson this week!?!?!) In Boston, Mayor Thomas M. Menino (D), the city’s longest-serving mayor (of 16 years), is running for a fifth term against City Councilor Michael Flaherty (D). Menino is favored, but don't miss the nasty feud between Boston firefighters and the mayor. Elsewhere, there are notable competitive races in Seattle (where the incumbent mayor lost in the primary), Charlotte (where that city's 14-year mayor is stepping down), and Houston (which the New York Times profiles today).

*** Other 2009 odds and ends: A new Fairleigh Dickinson/Public Mind poll has Jon Corzine (D) and Chris Christie (R) deadlocked -- with Corzine at 44%, Christie at 43%, and Daggett at 6%... And in NY-23, GOP candidate Dede Scozzafava won the endorsement of the district's main newspaper, the Watertown Daily Times. The paper writes that Scozzafava is "best equipped" for the job, while Conservative Party challenger Doug Hoffman's "ideological stands could harm the district" and "the Democratic candidate [Bill Owens] has too much to learn about district issues and the job of governing." This endorsement comes a day after the Syracuse Post-Standard announced its backing of Owens because "he offers a clear and welcome contrast to both Scozzafava and Hoffman on major issues."

Happy Friday & Happy Halloween!  All I can say is I’m thankful Halloween falls on a Saturday this year… there’s already an over abundance of scardey cats & chicken littles trolling around FR!  If we give them some ‘treats’ to reward them for their ‘tricks’ we’ll NEVER get rid of them!

Below is an excerpt from what the GEENOPEE’s HCR alternative plan is (be warned… it reads more like April Fools Day than Halloween!)

Plain & Simple… there NEVER was and they STILL have NO alternative plan as of yesterday afternoon! That begs the question WHY isn’t the MSM pressing this story harder?  It’s been non stop coverage 24/7 of the Democrats while the Republican’ts pout and continue to do NOTHING!!!
_____________________

At a press conference this morning, a reporter turned the tables on Boehner and asked whether he’d post the GOP plan for 72 hours. Boehner declined to make such a pledge:

QUESTION: Will the Republicans put their alternative online for 72 hours as well?
BOEHNER: Uh, we’ll uh, we’ll have our ideas ready. Don’t worry.
Why won’t Bohner post the GOP plan? Because he doesn’t have one. Later in the press conference, this minor detail was revealed when a reporter pressed Boehner for a GOP alternative plan:

QUESTION: Is it your plan to have one Republican alternative that you all would get behind and endorse?
BOHNER: We have a number of ideas that we would like to proffer in this process, and we’re not quite sure how the majority intends to proceed. And so until we understand how they intend to proceed, it’s pretty difficult for us to have a solid plan.

"Stimulus created over million jobs: US officials
WASHINGTON (AFP) – New data provides the first confirmation that President Barack Obama's economic stimulus plan has so far saved or created more than one million jobs, administration officials said Friday."

-----------------------------------------------------

Dear Mr. President,

These Stimulus numbers were often double counted, incorrectly calculated and padded so much that they have no meaning. Why don’t you say “Gee, I’m glad I bought an expensive fire insurance policy, it kept my house from burning down!”

Most of the jobs you claim were “saved” were reported by firms that said gov’t money helped them make their payroll. Well what happens when you take away that taxpayer prop? Layoffs follow. Upon further investigation, (as was reported by AP and posted yesterday on MSNBC no less), public agencies and private firms admitted they miscounted or in some cases reported completely fraudulent numbers.

New car sales in the US dropped over 40% from August to September after the Cash For Clunkers props ended.
The Stimulus is just one giant welfare state scheme. The Obama Administration is not fixing the systemic problems of the economy, they are only pouring money on fires to create newsworthy events for political gain. This cannot go on much longer without US currency becoming completely worthless like 1920’s Germany or 1970’s Brazil. It is already occurring.
Using the same job counting rules as Obama, Bush saved over 20 million jobs during his presidency, and without a porked out $787 billion stimulus bill.
Should Pelosi be lighting her cigars with $100 bills while she's giving speeches about Health Care Reform on the Capital steps? That just dosn't seem to be the most appropriate place to that.

Just was reading the NY Times editorial, recommending that Pelosi's health care reform bill be approved. After I was finished I found myself wondering if the White House had any hand in the editorial, since there is no way that the editorial board of the NY Times had time to read, in less than 24 hours, a bill has doubled in since its last release. Or maybe the NY Times was just giving its knee-jerk approval because it was a bill put out by the Obama administration.

It says something when folks are suspicious of the MSM's stamp of approval. The trust that we had that the MSM would be protectors of truth has been severely damaged.
ME, ME, MegaloME...I alone created OR saved over 5,000,000 lives only this very morning.  I, with great fear of making any decision whatsoever, accidentally stepped over a queen bee waiting to warm her wings in the crisp morning air, and by doing so, surely must have saved her millions of unhatched progeny and the millions of jobs of future worker bees.  See how easy it is to save or create jobs?
Obama job numbers . . . . . .

You Lie!!
Words that describe Hillary Clinton: Bold, Tough Decisive

Words that do NOT describe Barack Obama: Bold, Tough Decisive
Obama is saying the $787 billion dollar stimulus plan of his either created or "saved" a million jobs. Mr. Calculator says that means each job cost the American taxpayer $787,000. And some people want the government to run health care.
BAD WEEK FOR HEALTHCARE

The health care situation is an easy fix if costs are tweaked here and there. Then a few new rules to
add the 16 Million uninsured to the mix. YEAH, 16 MILLION.

THE WHOLE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM DOES NOT NEED TO BE OVERHAULED WITH A THOUSAND PAGE RULE BOOK THAT IS NOTHING BUT POLITICAL IN NATURE.

You make a few changes up front. Then add some more.

THE OBAMA HEALTHCARE REFORM BILL IS DESIGNED FOR A GOVERNMENT TAKEOVER. It is designed to confuse.

Does anyone really believe Obie/Pelosi/Reid have your best interests at hand? They want to control everything you have and everything you do through outrageous taxes, cuts in Medicare, the banking system, the auto industry and now your actual life through an erroneous health care bill that they KNOW IS FLAWED from the get-go.

The fix is in and once again, the clowns are running the circus.

Bad Chihuahua
Palomino
Moon Dawg ... and the rest.

The Obama people have no shame.  After yesterday's scathing report from the AP, Obama and his dimwit band of political spinners said the AP report is misleading, yet the AP went on to explain the findings.  BTW that was only 30,000 jobs saved or created (whatever that means), so when they do the analysis of this crap, who knows.  Also the report from Edmonds.com regarding Cash for clunkers stated it cost the feds  $24K per auto..., and the Obama administration said they (Edmonds) were also lying.  Who the heck is really lying here?  Any guess?  Does anyone believe anything this administration tells us?  Fool me once shame on me fool me twice (or 100 times) shame on you. Obama is now a proven liar.

I just don't see how you can say that the stimulus did or did not work.  The "jobs saved or created" statistic is pretty much meaningless.  It would be fascinating to hand over the jobs data to a statistician and see a good unbiased analysis.  (I work in a statistical job, but I'm a bit too busy with my own work)  ;-)

Hope everyone has a great Halloween.  Can't wait to take my kids out trick or treating tomorrow night.  (Gonna be in the upper 80's though...yuck).
And in NY-23, GOP candidate Dede Scozzafava won the endorsement of the district's main newspaper, the Watertown Daily Times. -------------------------------------------

...and in the continuing footrace by Republicans to determine who is the most conservative, Hoffman has been endorsed by former-Governor George Pataki...which might mean something except Pataki was not the most powerful Republican in the state even when he was Governor!

Hasn't anyone been paying attention?

Hoffman does not live in the district so he can't even vote for himself!

The Watertown Daily Times determined that Hoffman does not have an adequate grasp of the issues facing the constituents of NY-23.

But hardcore conservatives want to make Hoffman their Golden Boy.  Enjoy!
The entertainer named "Sting" said the following about Obama: "In many ways, he's sent from God," he joked in an interview, "because the world's a mess." Sting also said that he spent some time with Obama and "found him to be very genuine, very present, clearly super-smart, and exactly what we need in the world."

Well my name is ButtRash and I say Obama is out of his depth and is a Stalinist. Since my name is even more dumb then Stings, I must be even more credible.
Looks like the Death Panel provision survived in the Pelosi Health Care bill. As did free Health Care for illegal's and publically funded abortions. Nancy's bill has got it all going for it. All the bs liberal stuff anyway.

How many illegal alien jobs were saved?
The White House will celebrate the saving and creation of a million jobs with a free Simon & Garfunkel concert on the Mall-

Li la li, li la li li li la li li li li la li
All lies and jest, still the man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest, hmmmm

Li la li, li la li li li la li li li li la li

Obama's job numbers show growth . . .

Is there a Nobel Prize for False Propaganda and Blabbering Idiots? Nobel committee, where are you when we need you???! Obie can make it a 2 for 1 acceptance when he shows up in Denmark in a few weeks.
Utterly amazing. These Obama people are shameless. Why not say they "saved" 10 million jobs!? They'd have as much evidence.

The bottom line is that the net job gain under Obama has been negative. There is no way around that FACT. They blew $800B on pet projects that just grew government, not the private sector.

The Obama administration is unbelievable in their audacity.
Pelosi, a spoiled delusional ranting lunatic member of the "padded room" escapee patient hierarchy running the asylum. She would be perfect for an Ivy League tenured professorship!

Why is it that ethics clouds never seem to rain?

Afghanistan --

And time goes by so slowly
And time can do so much

Newsflash:  It's "tough talk" to tell Pakistan that Al Qaeda has been hanging out there for seven years.  Oh, my, we wouldn't want to hurt their feelings, would we?

Hmmm.  Maybe it's true that recessions ARE all in the head.  Or at least recoveries are.

Five cents, please.
I don't have a thing to say!

lol

Have a great weekend and Happy Halloween! :)
It's easy to save or create 650,000 jobs if you count the same job 650,000 times.  Unfortunately, this chicanery does not counter the millions of jobs permantly lost in the first 10 months of the cascading Obie tragedy.  Elementary, my dear.
How the media reports Obama job numbers with a straight face is beyond comprehension. The same goes for Pelosi's health care destruction bill. How do you guys/gals not just crack up laughing when you read the sewer water these two put out?

Hope everyone has a great Halloween.  Can't wait to take my kids out trick or treating tomorrow night.  (Gonna be in the upper 80's though...yuck).

Same to you!  I'll take the upper 80's over the NON-STOP rain we've had...

Here... have a popcorn ball!  ;0)
New Flash people when President Obama won he did on a platform of change. Which part of that one word do you not get. When Reagon won he had a mandate to cut taxes which we all know the results. When gop took over w/ Gingrich Contract w/ America they had a mandate. Now Obama has that Mandate that progressive/liberals are demanding w/ universal hlthcare. The GOP are nothing but obstructionists and two faced hyprocrits. That's what representative democracies are about not trying to demonizing it as Socialism when Fox Noice regurgitates it adnauseum to dupe the certain ignorant masses who when asked what are the 3 branches of our government a clear majority are clueless. Jaywalking on Jay Leno Show either makes you lol and cringe how politicians get the voters to do the bidding for them vis-a-vis corporate America. Although you may have hlthcare w/ your job you are just one illness away from bankruptcy, denial based on bogus pre-existing and/or laid-off w/ only cobra that you can't afford to cover your family of four. WE ALL HAVE THE GOP AND SO CALLED CENTRIST DEMOCRATS TO BLAME IF IT FAILS!
I know Mr. Bohener, you are just waiting for the right moment to spring your great idas on us. How you'll fix health insurance to make it affordable to everyone and how you see the stimulus money spent to create so many more jobs in a couple of months than we have already. I can hardly wait for your wisdom and great ideas. Since we haven't heard any, I don't plan to hold my breath either, I'd rather stick with what we have proposed. The party of no will be out of the loop soon enough. People don't like to hear no to perfectly good ideas and when one complains it is just whining unless one also proposes what he sees as a better alternative. So stop whining Boehner, snuff it up and stop trying to play with the big kids.
you see how the liberals react to their party leaders finally showing their hand on the destruction and socializing of the American health care system. They attack the Republicans. There is not much good in the Democrats plans. High taxes, forced purchases of insurance, heavy fines, poorer quality of care, rationing, on and on. The liberals reaction: "We want to see the Republican plan!",  that plan doesn't matter libs, because remember, You Won!
It was a good week for health care reform.  The fact that the public option has revived itself is due to grassroots efforts of citizens.  As FR stated, sausage making is ugly.  Evan Bayh has now backtracked and will not support a filibuster; guess the poll showing Indiana voters would punish him sobered his brain.  Lieberman declared that "oh, God no" he wouldn't risk his chairmanship to filibuster with the republicans.  I seriously doubt Lincoln, Landrieu or Nelson will hold up a cloture vote.

There's some republicans on that list of ethics investigations, too.  We expect politicians to keep their hands clean and most do but the lobbying money and corporate money, constant seeking of campaign donations plus spouse and family members with jobs in businesses that court the legislators.

Cook says what many of us here have said.  The handful of races does not mean much to either side.  Off year elections never do.  The Maine gay marriage vote is important.  There are still rumblings in Iowa mostly from the right wanting a vote on this issue.  The NY23 vote is fascinating to watch--the far right versus the right.  Even though some have said it won't happen elsewhere, we already see Palin endorsing Rick Perry in TX and Cheney endorsing Hutchison.  If it continues elsewhere (we saw it with Arlen Specter), this trend of extreme right vs right will hinder the chances of republicans gaining much ground next year.  The tea parties extreme elements, Hitler, socialist, marxist, communists, Mao comparison along with Beck, Limbaugh, death panels, NO NO NO positions, have hurt the GOP to the point that only 20% of people admit they're republican.  Couple that with the GOP's failure to attract younger people, miniorities does not signal a massive swing right in 2010.  They may gain some seats because of the economy but probably not enough.

President Obama has enough to do without wading into the ethics investigations right now.  Although, an off the radar meeting with these folks might be in order.
Read the damn bill. Where does it raise taxes? The bill will actually be neutral. Over time, if people maintain good health because they have access to good health care there will be lower costs because of a need for less medication, less visits to emergency rooms for things that could have been prevented earlier if one had seen a doctor early on. The bill states quite clearly that if you have insurance through your employer you can keep what you have. All this bill does is ensure that those currently unable to AFFORD quality health care will be given subsedized health care. This levels the playing field. Those folks will still pay premiums and co pays but at a lower rate because they have as much right to life as you or I or anyone else does.

The bill is available on the House Rules Committee Website.

The Speaker's office says it would cost $894 Billion over 10 years and be FULLY PAID FOR.

eagle1776

This is rich. If it's fully paid for, who's paying for it? You must work for the Democrats. You can spend a trillion dollars, and not have anyone pay for it, and yet it's deficit neutral. You bucking for Geitners job?

Sure, you do that. Don't raise taxes one cent, and have people just stay "healthy", healthy people don't ever get sick. We don't need those hospitals and doctors. What were we thinking when we came up with that idea to have all those doctors? An evil Republcian plan no doubt.

Greg B., Sarasota FL (Sent Thursday, October 29, 2009 4:29 PM)

I saw this post yesterday and realized I am mostly wasting my time posting on MSNBC.  Most of the folks are so blinded by Party loyalty, they just can't think for themselves...eagle, even Pelosi says there are plenty of taxes in the Bill, and the CBO says there are taxes in there.  So YOU read the damn Bill.  can keep your plan if you have one...sure, if you get the choice.  Your company though can stop using that source...so i guess you CAN lose your current plan.  No real reduction on costs...because they have waved a magic wand and TOLD you that costs will be lower you believe it?  like the tooth fairy! Cut waste from Medicare to save costs?  If that was workable, why haven't they been doing it from day one of Obama's presidency? Look at all the Government programs we have now, how many are cutting waste and saving us the taxpayers money?  Do you Smoke? Insurance companies can charge you more...why?  It is a pre-existing condition, so might cancer be, or any other disease...they can charge you more, and will.  where is Affordable in that? Oh, again with the magic wand!  Because republicans and democrats for years have been demonizing themselves...they have made most of you blind to YOUR Parties failings while EVERYTHING the other side does is bad...wake the hell up!  These bills tax hearing aids, are you telling me that hearing aids are only used by Americans who are rich?  Wake up! wake up! wake Up, Americans are dumber overall politically than they have ever been.
How many illegal alien jobs were saved?
Juan Perez
None, because the illegals need to go back where they came from. they come here take our jobs, drain our health care system, lower our wages, drain our public school resources. GO HOME, WE DON'T WANT YOU HERE.
Sorry but this is the truth.
FRL In his latest column in National Journal, political analyst Charlie Cook warns not to read too much into the handful of contests on Tuesday.
-------------------------------------------------

I predict that the warning will be ignored by the punditocracy. Deeds is going to lose the Virginia governor race, and there will be all sorts of "analyses" hyperventillating about how it's a referendum on Obama.

The media needs something new to attack Obama about every week, because most of the "nontroversies" they cook up are so lame that people get bored with them after a few days (examples: Obama won't play basketball with the girls, Obama goes golfing with contributors, etc.).

So we know that next weeks nontroversy is going to be the Virginia governor's race. I wonder what the nontroversy the week after next will be.
I understand the polls where people are disgusted with Congress.  No one seems to care about anything other than their own re-election and lining their pockets with as much money as they can.  And they seem to accept the length of time that it takes to get anything done as business as usual.  I know some of you will say that as voters we can speak and elect better people but I think the system favors the incumbents and even if we got new blood it would soon be corrupted.  Maybe I'm reacting to the endless media coverage of HCR but I'm about done with them.
On a positive note, Happy Halloween to all at First Read!

Then we are promised a Health Care Reform Bill and we still get nothing.

After all, a bunch of 'have-no-candy' kids begging for candy from the 'have-candy' neighbors smacks of socialism AND 'pagan devil-worship' that God surely must condem!
"let's put a man on the moon in 10 years" and guess what we did it. All the while fighting a war, dealing with civil rights and sweeping social change. Think we could do it again? Or would old Rush say no and about half of you give up and walk off shaking your heads and saying no we could never do that it's just to hard.Seems like this is what we are doing with many of these questions now days. Used to be that the best way to get an American to do something was to tell him that it couldn't be done. We would work and plot and scheme and suddenly good things would start to happen not for just us but for the world. Sure would like to get back there. Ron was right yesterday much is revealed here by all some good and some bad and some just inane. However most on both sides do give each other the greatest gift of all and that is your time to frame the question and explain the result. You think and consider and explain and all of this tells me that there are many out there that may make it back to a better place. For you folks that take this time everyday I thank you because this gift is to me priceless. I hope that all will continue participate and look forward to getting a chance to watch each voice develop just as I have over the last year and a half. To our hosts as always thank you for the time space and forum.Good weekend all and Happy Spooks
Looks like Nancy P. has a little fascism in her! Barring Republicans from attending your little event yesterday Nancy! Nice touch! Nothing like using the People's House to put out your slanted and deranged view of the world!
Fruity , Figures that you would have popcorn balls for the libbies seeing that that is the kind Obie has shown. Can't make a decison so he lies instead.
I havta laugh at the MSM for Spinning the Republican PR for them. America saw the PR machine at work this past summer & Rejected it for what it was " A lame excuse to Buy more Tea" ! However, there was an Upside to the Madness, the Need to improve America's Education System. Just how DUMB are the Wizards behind the Curtain of the Republican PR machine ?

Yesterday ,Minority leader Mcconnel came out & said the Public option would Kill American's, if it passes & becomes Law. Now, just how more Ignorant can he make the GOP look! Him & Boehner are about the most useless Minority leaders in Our History ! They are content with allowing the Extreme Rightwing Taliban destroying the Grand Old Party.

So Be It, throw me some Popcorn Feisty, gonna be a Comedy session for the Ages !

Preach on Rush, Sean, Beck & Savage, Preach on Brothers !
This was a great week for Americans, because we are finally going to get the health care bills to the floor to show who will work with us and who won't. HCR will be passed, just a matter of by 60 or by 51. It may not have everything we want, but it's a good step forward. Also,to the righties. When you were in charge for 6 solid years, why didn't you do anything on health care except to try and privatize Medicare and give even more room to the giant insurance and pharma to strangle us with hc costs? Huh? So get on the train or get outta the way!
How many illegal alien jobs were saved?

Ask ACORN to keep count as they fill out the illegal aliens voter registration forms and hand them a Democrat ballot.
Pam, San Pedro - I read your heart breaking story yesterday afternoon and I want to say for my gender how sorry I am and I wish you and your daughters well. I am also sorry to hear Feisty's sad tale and hope for the best for her as well.

Pam, I didn't catch whether or not you have been reunited. I certainly hope so. I find it interesting that women are often upset they hooked up with the wrong man, while men lament about letting the good one get away. Maybe that's because the gals want to get out of the house and make a hasty choice and the guys are afraid of commitment and let the winners go to someone else.

All I can say to you two gals is - I sympathize with you but I bet - bum or not - he provided you with children you wouldn't give up for the world. We guys meanwhile, are left holding an empty bag. Maybe I can ease the pain just a tiny bit with the following;

MSNBC has a heart-wrenching story about young Afghan girls so desperate to get out of made marriages with men three times older than they are, that they are setting themselves on fire to get out of the hell hole. These young girls are only there to cook, clean and have the occasional child. At least Pam and Feisty had a choice in the matter.

Perhaps our intentions in Afghanistan are all mixed up. I have long felt that peace in the Middle East may lie in the hands of the fairer sex. If we concentrated on reaching out to the women there, with a message of what civil rights are all about, we would make some headway, rather than blowing the place to bits.

Greg P., NW Ind - Right on. I have long said that in this, the wealthiest country in the world, even if we had a single payer health care system, private insurance would be available for those wishing more extensive care. It's true with private schools versus public, Fed Ex and the post office, security firms and even the military (the dreaded Blackwater.) Private insurance will never die as long as there are folks willing to pay the premiums.

Jody, Iowa and Ron, Ind. - I get a kick out of the humbleness you both show. You are among the best posters on any site on the web. Keep up the good work. Speaking of which, Nash, Anita - where have you been? And Eric, we miss you along with Terry, the Disabled Vet and others who may be frustrated with some of the hate on this blog.

No joe, I'm very happy things are going well with your granddaughter. Give her a kiss from all of us.

Finally, have a great Halloween everyone. I have a tray of quarters in the oven for the little buggers as we speak but they are so smart, now they show up to my house wearing gloves...

Oh, I almost forgot - sorry Pat, Clara and Jawillie but --- GO YANKEES..........
Jody, Iowa: It was a good week for health care reform.

I agree 100%. Excellent week. Now we see how the Democrats want to destroy the greatest health care system the world has ever seen. Instead of having the exceptionalism of our current health system, the Democrats want to make it mediocre, middle of the road, "fair". Now it's all in black and white, 1990 pages of of pure crap. Now people can read it and weep. And most people will now finally wake up and tell Pelosi to shove it.

Great week for health care.
Jeff Evanston IL. (Sent Friday, October 30, 2009 10:10 AM)

----------------------------------------------------

Sorry but everyone in this country (unless you are from an indian tribe or native american) is an immigrant.  The civil war was won with the help of Irish immigrants, and our country would not be where it is today if it were not for the people that traveled here to seek a better life.

We need to fix the immigration system to fit the needs of the added immigrants coming in to allow a legal way for them to do so.  We can't build 200 billion dollar fences just for illegals to buy 200 dollars worth of supplies to tunnel underneath.  Let's educate people on what we expect from them if they are going to live here.  And lets keep it so corporations and business owners can't exploit them for cheap labor, further keeping them in poverty.

Poverty causes crime.  Simple as that.

REPUBLICAN LOSS

The libs are so impressed with the fact that a liberal is in the White House that they will follow him and his puppetmaster, Pelosi, anywhere.

Again, like a herd of wildebeests.

They believe anything they hear, like some sort of cult, as long as it comes from another liberal popcorn ball. They can't think for themselves.
They say Republicans lose but they don't understand that the Pelosi Healthcare Bill affects them the same way. We ALL lose. America loses.

----

The Independents will determine the 2010 election and the Dems need to screw it up NOW so it can be fixed before enacted.
