The majority voted for health care reform, improving education and energy improvements. If we don't do these things now, we never will. If Sen Gregg, and his Congressional colleagues were so concerned about debt and cutting spending, why didn't we hear these remarks for the last eight years? But we didn't, and they helped Bush spend this country into debt and an economic meltdown. The republicans lost the election for a reason, people voted for change and we didn't vote for that change to look and sound like GOP ideology.

The economic disaster occurred on Bush's watch but it has been building through many administrations, republican and democrat. Now Pres Obama has to fix it which means going into debt to move toward economic viability and get our competitive edge back. While Bush was busy spending billions in Iraq, China has quietly been investing all over the world and they are now an economic superpower. Pres Obama recognizes that in order to regain our economic lead, we must improve education and reduce oil dependency; we must also reduce the cost of health care so that corporations can become competitive again so that we don't have to ship production jobs overseas. Why should China be building the computers we use? The budget is investing in our future instead of fixing things good enough to get by. It will take time to get out of debt but it will be worth it.

The budget battle continues

After that so-called "blueprint" that they tried to pass off as a budget, the Generally Obsolete and Pathetic party hardly has a leg to stand on. Come back when you have some actual IDEAS!

http://jawillie.blog.com

The budget battle continues

And the Republican alternative is 19 pages without figures. Our debt levels are too high.

And this video is stunning. You would think that cries for us to spend less would be coming from the US. Yet here is Daniel Hannan of the EU berating the British PM on his spending proposals.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94lW6Y4tBXs

This man understand Libery. Liberty expands when the private sector expands, not the public sector. Mr. Hannan is obviously a reader of FA Hayek and von Mises with such statements as "you cannot squeeze the productive bits of the economy to pay for the unproductive bits." Here, here, Mr Hannan!

I find it truly stunning that it is Europe, not the US, that is saying that our spending propsals are "nuts". When leaders across Europe think you are spending too much, then you need to rethink what you are doing.

We don't need any more spending. What we need is to expand the private sector and give them an incentive to get involved. Expanding the public sector lessens our Liberty. Helping the private sector can be accomplished with dramatic supply-side tax cuts. Eliminating the cap gains tax for a few years. Cut the divident tax. And if we want to give consumers more money, then we can cut the payroll tax.

History has proven, independent of tax cuts/increases, that the economy expands more when spending it brought under control.

The budget battle continues

Our economy is a jeep, with four flat tires - Financial Institutions, Education, Health Care and Energy. You can pump up the financial 'tire', but that jeep isn't moving until you inflate them all.

This situation has been brewing for over 30 years, yet it has been largely ignored.

We finally have an intelligent President who will fix 'the flat tires' so the economy can roll again.

The budget battle continues

Here is the analogy on the budget in my opinion:

You support your family with a low paying job that will every year put you further into debt overall. You can get a better paying job that allows you to support your family and save for retirement, but you have to move to another state. Do you go further into debt in the short term on the move, so that you can acheive your goals in the long term? Or do you remain shortsighted, and say, hey, we can't afford to move we don't have any money.

I like the policy to invest for a growing economy in the future.

The budget battle continues

no joe...suck it up buddy, we're gonnna go on a ride whether you are buckled up or not......crying is limited to the cheap 'safe' seats, the rest of us are ready for a do or die.....we're crashing right now. Although I have had my doubts about this budget, there are two things to consider. First, we can think of this budget as the "defibrillator" giving a huge jolt to move us from a 19th Century mentality into the real world of the 21st Century (a huge risk to be sure). The second is that we're going for the record and trying to outspend Bush and his cronies who still crawl the Hill. There is one big difference, however--this budget, "bloated" or otherwise, puts the needs of the American people first, the needs of the "haves" second or even third. It's about time. Besides, you always ask for much more than you expect to get. And yes, we'll all have to pay more but maybe we'll get more, too.

The budget battle continues

The GOP is good at attacking and campaigning.
