I like political ads and issue ads, no matter which side is airing them. The challenge of these things is to press the right buttons and persuade the viewer of the rightousness of your message in a very short 30 or 60 second timeframe. I'll leave it to the left wing whack jobs around here to criticize how 'misleading' this ad is. My take is whether or not the ad will be effective.

1. "...reduces costs across the board." That's a winner, particularly since the plans being discussed by Congress seem to be focusing more on extending coverage to the uninsured rather than reducing costs.

2. "...another government takeover..." Yeah I know lots of you lefties will say this is trash talk, but this is a hot button and likely to make folks think twice about what Obama and Congress are up to. And the ad uses this phrase three times. A winner.

3. "...putting government beaucrats in charge..." another hot button phrase and strategically placed in juxtaposition to the phrase 'public option' that polls say is so popular. The Repubs are firing back on that one.

4. "...a responsible plan we can afford..." another winner, strikes directly at the huge cost estimates that have been unnerving people.

5. "...stop rushing..." another good punch, plays on peoples concerns that health care 'reform' is something that should be approached thoughtfully and deliberately rather than jammed through because the politics may be right.

6. Unfortunately, the ad uses the word 'Republican' waaaayyyyyy too much. At a time when identification with the Republican party is low and the message of the party (whatever it may be these days) has lost credibility, it doesn't make a lot of sense to me to pound on that brand name over and over in the ad. Dumb and dumber. So despite the many good things in the ad, I think the repeated use of the word "Republican" is the kiss of death and most folks will tune out just because of that.

I'm not sure where Republicans have been for the past two decades, but CHOICE went out the window the moment HMO's became the cheapest insurance employers could buy.

I have a relative who had worked over 26 years for the same company (he was laid off this past Dec), and during the last 5 years of his employment, his company switched insurance companies 5 times in search of cutting cost.

Each was worse than its predecessor: higher co-pay, fewer physician choices, and outlandish drug cost and processing... the last insurance company required all regularly prescribed drugs be ordered in ADVANCE, in BULK and entirely through the MAIL.

And this is the NORM, NOT THE EXCEPTION.

So is the long long wait for doctor appointments & exams. Or the even longer wait once the appointment is set and you arrive there.

If Republicans doubt this, then perhaps they would voluntarily give up the gold standard insurance we tax payers provide them, and insure with those companies they are so set upon PROTECTING.

Surely if they're GOOD ENOUGH FOR THE REST OF AMERICA, they're GOOD ENOUGH FOR OUR CONGRESS.

We spend over twice as much of our GDP on healthcare as any other country in the World. And Individual American spend about ten times as much out of pocket on healthcare as any other people in the World. All because of GREED! And the PRIVATE FOR PROFIT healthcare system in America.

And while all this is going on, some members of congress seem mostly concern about how to protect the corporate PROFITS! of our GREED DRIVEN, PRIVATE FOR PROFIT NATIONAL DISGRACE. A PRIVATE FOR PROFIT DISGRACE that is in fact, totally valueless to the public health. And a detriment to national security, public safety, and the public health.

Progressive democrats and others should stand firm in their demand for a robust public option for all Americans, with all of the minimum requirements progressive democrats demanded. If congress can not pass a robust public option with at least 51 votes and all robust minimum requirements, congress should immediately move to scrap healthcare reform and demand that President Obama declare a state of NATIONAL HEALTHCARE EMERGENCY! Seizing and replacing all PRIVATE FOR PROFIT health insurance plans with the immediate implementation of National Healthcare for all Americans under the provisions of HR676 (A Single-payer National Healthcare Plan For All).

Coverage can begin immediately through our current medicare system. With immediate expansion through recruitment of displaced workers from the canceled private sector insurance industry. Funding can also begin immediately by substitution of payroll deductions for private insurance plans with payroll deductions for the national healthcare plan. This is what the vast majority of the American people want. And this is what all objective experts unanimously agree would be the best, and most cost effective for the American people and our economy.

In Mexico on average people who received medical care for A-H1N1 (Swine Flu) with in 3 days survived. People who did not receive medical care until 7 days or more died. This has been the same results in the US. But 50 million Americans don’t even have any healthcare coverage. And at least 200 million of you with insurance could not get in to see your private insurance plans doctors in 2 or 3 days, even if your life depended on it. WHICH IT DOES!

Simple Question: In response to the old-as-crypt line about the new plan putting "a government bureaucrat between you and your doctor," WHY don't the Democrats HAMMER the following line: you currently have an insurance company bureaucrat between you and your doctor. This person's ONLY responsibility is to limit the amount of dollars the insurance company gives you. So, would you rather have a government bureaucrat who cares about you or a bean-counter who only cares about the bottom line? You get a bureaucrat either way; shouldn't you have one on your side?

"President Obama talks about a "public option." When he says "public option", that means putting government bureaucrats in charge…instead of patients and their doctors."

And just who still has the option to select what ever doctor they want? Of those that have a current plan, how many plans allow the insurance holder free rein in selecting which ever doctor they want? How many are directed to specific doctors that may prescribe or order any medication or procedure that they see fit to order without first having to go through a process controlled by doctors and practicianers who are granted bonuses based on how well they restrict access?

And just what does, "Another government takeover" really mean? Government takeover, like the FDA or the U.S. Military? Flawed as some programs may be, do we really want the financial institutions to be devising their own rules and regulation?

Slamming the "government" is just another way of slamming democracy....as if the people are not able to elect individuals that can and will do their best to protect the interests of their constituents.... Clearly, if elections are fair then the people in office are there because Americans put them there. So enough with blaming government for America's problems and start holding the voters (and non-voters) accuntable for their own actions.

Everyone should read the article on Steve Jobs and how he got a liver because of who he is. He was able to buy enough doctors to get a liver transplant when he has had cancer. Now, if I had cancer, even it if it is remission, and I had an organ start to fail, I would not be able to get on the list, much less get the organ.

Anne - Plenty of other countries have private health care companies doing very well for themselves and they exist alongside a public option.

The government provides a safety net of decent, dignified and competent healthcare to all. Those who wish to pay more for a higher level or service can then do so.

Once again, if health care does not pass - then I vote for taking the free health care for life away from all politicians. It is time they see how much everything out there really costs.

Remember the news when the press asked Bush about $4 a gallon for gas - and he says Really it's up to $4 now. Politicians have no idea how much every thing costs now. So time to take away their freebies.
